Than again it's not surprising.

I'm really hoping they at least throw them in as a bonus with a set at some point at least, in better quality than the 2004 discs. They have to know there is demand for them out there. I've held off on the BR set to wait...but I may just be waiting for nothing.

Honestly, how many more sales would the unaltered version have than the altered?

I'm 45. Grew up watching the Star Wars movies in the theater. Have the 9 disc bluray set. Very satisfied with it. Not losing sleep because these have been altered. Part of me wishes they were the original unaltered movies. Part of me just doesn't care anymore. Part of me is tired of hearing people ***** and moan about it. Really, isn't it time to just move on? He did what he did. No matter whether he should have or not.

I can live with all the edits except one: replacing Sebastian Shaw in Return of the Jedi. Seeing Hayden Christensen there drives me insane.

If that one edit wasn't made, I'd be "ok" with the edited movies. It's that one edit that drove me over the edge.

It will be time to move on when things are released that should be released and not a minute before. If you are tired of hearing people moan about it maybe might be best to avoid this topic and thread? I do agree with you on one thing, as far as owing the films unaltered I could really care less because I own them and the ones I own were done much better than Lowry would do since they were done by someone who really loves the films. I am to the point I want them "officially" released just because it is the right thing to do.

I like the PT ok but I keep it seperate and do not look at it as a saga. George goofed up with that when he waited almost 17 years between trilogies. Adding an actor into a film who was like three years old when the film was released is just not right.

And that's one edit that really shouldn't bother you that much because Shaw's *performance* of the dying Darth Vader is there, complete (sans eyebrows). If that was missing, yes that would bother me a lot.

Standing around smiling for a few seconds? Not so much.

I finally got around to watching the Despecialized editions. They look pretty good for the most part. It was especially nice seeing Lapti Nek and Yub Nub and seeing Vader's saber look the right shade of red. I really liked the adjusted color timing in ESB, though I did find myself missing Ian Emperor, Bespin, and the updated ships in ANH.

Overall, it was great seeing the versions I grew up watching on VHS in decent quality. They do suffer in the PQ department compared to the Blus, so the Blus will be be the ones I that I watch on my projector, but I think I might use the Harmy's editions as my default for small screen viewing. If Lucasfilm put the OUT out, I'd buy them in a heartbeat. I definitely prefer the original cut of ROTJ. With the other two, I would go back and forth between both editions if they were officially offered, depending on my mood.

Well it's probably time to accept what George did, but now we can complain that the movies need new transfers. As we move towards the next digital revolution, those dated masters aren't going to cut it anymore and the "simplest" thing to do is go back and create new masters and awesome new special editions. That way everyone's happy ...

How is everyone going to be happy when the UOT is not out?

Sorry, by new masters I meant new masters of the originals (they can't rescan the 2K special editions - they'll have to go back to the source), alongside new special editions. Then everyone will be happy!

There is no way possible to make everyone happy when it comes to Star Wars. Reading some of these posts will assure you of that.

That really is what I'm more curious about at this point; what they're going to do about the current antiquated masters (which weren't even top of the line when they were originally created at that).

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, many of the current alterations were done entirely in the 1080p master, so does that mean those changes will get thrown out as well when they decide to create a new scan (if that hasn't already happened of course)?

Yes, at some point whichever version of these is going to need to be 4K.

And it appears such work has been done.

When it all comes down to it, the fact that the biggest trilogy of all time still isn't widely available both in high quality and in its original form is ridiculous. Its history on home video is a mess, with each re-issue presenting new problems and alternations. For every pro, there's about five cons. Is it really any wonder that people continue to moan about it? When they have to resort to fan edits and/or twenty-year-old Laserdisc transfers to see the films unmutilated?

You see so many obscure films (which you wouldn't even expect to get Blu-ray releases) receive the best possible treatment and yet the original trilogy still hasn't had the definitive release it deserves. It's sad.

Hey, watch it there. Don't you know that around these parts, certain people will accuse you of being a whiny fanboy for making posts like this?

Although I know a lot of us were hoping that Disney would pump out new editions of the UOT to hype up the return of Star Wars, it really makes sense that it didn't happen just yet for various reasons.

Remember, Disney now owns the rights to all of Star Wars. Forever. They aren't just going to put out everything from Star Wars you've ever wanted right away. It'll be a step-by-step process, and honestly, from a business perspective, it makes sense.

First you make extra money by doing the quickest and easiest thing possible: taking the existing HD versions you already have from the Blu-Ray release and selling them as digital releases.

THEN you plan to release new versions of the movies. I personally believe they are already planning on doing new 4K versions of the movies, possibly BOTH the UOT and the original 1997 Special Editions, seeing as those versions are what are on the original film negative. From there, they can restore the UOT using other elements or piecing back in the original footage.

Hell, maybe they'll also bring Lucas on or people involved in the film's production and do some kind of elaborate "Final Cut" like Blade Runner. The possibilities are endless with Disney in control-- they obviously want to make as much money as possible on Star Wars, and the movies out thus far are ripe for doing multiple, different releases.

Eh, I don't know about Disney putting the UOT out anymore. At first I thought Disney would do it as fan service and another way to sell it.

But then they stopped selling 3D blu's of films they released theatrically in 3D, in that case the works been done but they don't want to offer too many versions it seems (I know it's niche, sadly plenty of Star Wars fans consider us UOT fans niche as well). That shows they don't like to saturate the market with too many options, they still do that darned vault thing even though you can import everyone of their films that are vaulted.

If Lucasfilm has control of such a thing, like the situation with Marvel, it's even more unlikely since Lucas was quite adamant about not putting out the UOT and there's likely plenty of loyalty regarding that matter at Lucasfilm. Heck, the Ferngully rip-off Strange Magic wasn't even released at all on blu, not sure if that's Disney or Lucasfilm's work.

I hope I'm eventually wrong, I've been waiting to buy the UOT in good quality forever, so much so, I've held off on buying the current set (at least until it drops below $60 new, then I might cave).
