Prequels are ok but better than the OT?

A lot of my friends love the prequels more than the originals. Their only explanation is because the prequels have better special effects, action scenes, and dialog. They think that the original trilogy looks cheap, has lame action, and terrible written script.

It's not that dedicated: the Kenner figure from the '70s was called "Power Droid".

Madly collected all the figures until 1981 or so and just...stopped.

I completely agree with the second guy on the left side.
I wish they would have touched on the overuse of CGI in the prequels. Oh well.

Look, I'm not calling you a liar or anything and I know everybody has their own opinion and that there's no accounting for taste and all that noise, but do they really think the prequels have better dialogue?

Better dialogue on the prequels? No f---ing way. Put down the hash pipe.
Not even close.
More action? Sure there's more action. Does that translate to a better movie? No, not at all.

Those kind of people tend to be interested in "pure filmmaking" as an art form-- meaning they view shots and compositions and things like that in the same way some people are really into paintings. So he watches a lot of movies that are very abstract or are more like "visual poetry" in a way.

I'm not really into that so much myself, and I like to poke fun at him for being like an art-snob hipster type. He's a pretty cool dude though, not like those insufferable smug-types with a superiority complex. Those kind of people I've only had the displeasure of meeting on the internet so far.

Where does all this PT hate come from? George got the OT films the way he finally wanted them to match the PT. And I have no doubt that the new films will also match the OT and PT the way George would have wanted them to. Only a fool would mess with greatness and what happened on the screen with the PT was pure magic.

I wasn't trying to be rude, or smug, or anything like that. It was just a question, followed by how I feel about the Criterion Collection. If I came off like that, I give my sincerest of apologies. That was not my intentions, believe me!

It's not always about age. My older brother turns 36 this month, and he prefers the PT to the OT. I'm 26 and prefer the OT. I like to think it's more about refined taste.

I'm 36 (almost) and grew up watching the original trilogy with my dad. Even went to see Return of the Jedi in theaters with my parents. Anyway, I don't hate the prequels like some folks come out and say on here, but I in no way think they are anywhere near the caliber of the Original Trilogy!!! But, everyone has their own tastes in film and their own opinions. The above are my personal opinions of the franchise.

You're right that age has nothing to do with it, but taste is another matter. I'm 24, I grew up with the PT, and I find them more entertaining than the OT. I also recognize that Hope and Empire are by far the best movies in the series, but I find the PT easier to just throw on; I kinda need to be "in the mood" for the older ones, mostly because they are more dramatic and "heavy" and not just lighthearted adventure flicks.

That's how I feel about the prequels. I have to be in the mood, especially for Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. Revenge of the Sith I enjoy quite much actually though.

Don't take it the wrong way but I would would like to see a new set released someday after chapter 9. All nine films and the they could include the theartical versions of the OT as extras. It really does not need to be cleaned up or anything done to them. Just adding them as extras on a disc would be fine. They didnt look at that good in the theater back then I am told so no reason to go to any lengths cleaning them up. After spedning a few hours trying to catch up on the thread it sure seems there are some people that dont like his changes to the older films. Everyone I know loves the changes and we wont watch anything else. George did change them for a reason and he would know better than any of us whats better or not.
