I could have told you it would look better unaltered before you tried to zoom it.

Not if you have a player like my Oppo BDP-83, which can raise or lower the subtitles! :-) I have a "constant image height" setup with my projector and 2.35:1 screen, and the "adjust subtitle" feature works like a charm.

Obviously. And I still would've wanted to satisfy my own curiosity and see how it looks. Anyway, you lose the subtitles whenever aliens talk.

What Geoff D, is describing is slightly different, the new Sony (and Panasonic) players take a non-anamorphic DVD and display it like a anamorphic DVD, they even shift the subtitles if they aren't burnt-in, that technology wasn't around in 2008. All a TV will do or rather all my TVs do is give you the option to display Wide and stretch vertically, so you lose the subtitles.

For some reason only a few of my DVDs work with the feature (I only have a budget Sony), but the result is very pleasing.

HMV Japan posted a picture of the Japanese re-release's packaging, looks like they're going with the "brick case + slipbox" route.

Note that CD Japan and Amazon Japan also have it available for pre-order for Nov. 13th...

I've been holding out for UOT release but I think I finally will get the films in this steelbook form. It doesn't look like Disney will be doing anything differently for a long while (probably after the new trilogy is complete). Plus, I'll just burn off the Harmy versions on BD-r, that should suffice.

Steelbooks are $16.96 on Amazon... my resolve is gone and pre-ordered the original trilogy.

I'll stick with my VHS copies until Disney gets the rights to the unaltered OT from Fox.

I think I read it's coming soon, well soon-ish, considering this project has been going on for years.

There's already a 1.0 of Jedi that's 720p, but Harmy's been very open about the fact that there's much improvement to be had.

Lots of jokes on OT about Vader's eyebrows...

The Laserdisc transfers on the 2 Disc DVD sets hold up better than the VHS transfers IMHO.
