So I'm curious. I know you gyys don't particularly care for the BD editions (and I get it), but can you tell me one thing from each movie you do like? There has to be at least one thing, right?

ANH - I like the change when Han and Chewy are chasing after the STs and the run into the hangar bay where there is an army of them. That makes way more sense than the STs ran into a wall and turned around.

ESB - Cloud City's look.

RotJ - The Ewoks blink.

ESB - Come to think of it, other than the Wampa, I can't think of what was added, so I guess I don't have anything here.

RotJ - The Ewoks blink.
ANN - The conversation between Luke and Biggs

TESB - Nothing

ROTJ - Nothing

I like it when the original filmed model elements were simply recomposited digitally.

That's it. If that's all they did across all three films I would be perfectly satisfied.

I like the Death Star Battle in ANH much better now.

ANN - I liked all the changes after they leave Tatooine, it's before that all the horrible decisions where made

TESB - Cloud City is much better, and the extra Wampa scenes

ROTJ - Nothing

Some Tatooine stuff I like. The extra troopers searching for the droids, the dewbacks that actually move. The new sunset pan-down to Artoo in the canyon, the new Sandcrawler shot, some (not all) of the new shots that open up Mos Eisley. GETTING RID OF THE CICADA BACKGROUND NOISE (in the scenes of Threepio and Artoo lost in the desert)!

EDIT: I don't mind the Jabba scene because as far as I'm concerned it was "always" there. I read the novelization, the comic book, read the making of, etc.

ROTJ - the bantha herd in the pan over to Jabba's barge. The Sarlacc enhancements, even though some of it looks pretty CG it's still better than that lifeless rubber-looking pit. Now that the Ewoks blink it does look weird how lifeless their eyes now appear in the GOUT, the Death Star II shockwave (Jedi doesn't really have that many changes).

EDIT: also forgot about the galaxy-wide celebration. And I like the new music, "new-age" sounding or not. Much better than that silly Ewok song. And Hayden being Anakin at the end doesn't bother me: Sebastian Shaw's performance during the unmasking is still there and that's what's most important. If Lucas had reshot *that* with Hayden in makeup I'd understand the outrage.

Jedi didn't have that many changes back in the day perhaps (though they were still mightily controversial re: Jedi Rocks), and I LOVE the new 'across the galaxy' ending with the new music too. But starting with the DVD it really started to tick me off (using a freakin' outtake of Hayden to stand in for Anakin's force ghost) and the changes for the Blu-ray were beyond pointless IMO. Artoo's altered bunker freakout, adding a Dug to Jabba's palace, making the door of the palace ridiculously large, changing the light when Han is freed from the carbonite, those blinking ewoks (which look FAR weirder to me now that they blink and have pupils and stuff) and of course the dreaded NOOOOooooooooOOOO. Add to that the weird section halfway through where the horizontal resolution is greatly reduced for about three minutes (it's not an optical or a dupe) and it gets to the point where I would rather watch the DVD.

I'd go as far as to say I like most of the changes, but one or two from each movie really ruin it (Jabba in ANH, Fett's voice in ESB, dance number in RotJ). Even if I loved every change though I would still demand the original versions be available, same as Blade Runner. That's the real issue: the lack of original versions.

Dude, don't go looking for stuff if you didn't catch it before. You don't want to turn into Geoff, do you? Nobody wants that.

Yeah, that is another great addition because it doesn't make sense in the original version when Biggs is just randomly talking to him while they are attacking the Death Star.

OMG, that is what I was trying to put in there. I definitely like the improvements to the look of Cloud City. Thank you. I'm editing that into my post.

The wampa and cloud city scenes were by far the best new additions to the entire original trilogy (although I still prefer the unaltered).

I watched Empire recently on Blu and it struck me again just how HORRIBLE the added (3) scenes of Vader returning on his shuttle were. Absolutely terrible from a pacing and continuity standpoint...especially considering the events taking place at that point in the movie.

The Cloud City set extensions are terrific, but as always with Lucas there's a bit of half-assery that takes it down a notch: the newly expanded window which Han and Lando walk past just before they meet Vader reverts to the old set about a minute later. Very odd.

Fixing the matte lines errors and Wampa arm are the only changes that are good. I will take matte lines and the Wampa arm error over having to sit through the ANH JAbba, Gredo shooting first, magical appearing and disappearing rocks and windows, Jedi Rocks and "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO".

Give me the original, FOX/Disney. You know you want that money.

That's another thing: they went to all that trouble to add that other shit to the Blu of Jedi but left those glaring garbage mattes during the space battle. What I'd give to see that sequence recomposited digitally; no CG additions but simply the old elements repurposed.

I'm probably the only person who hates the new wampa costume in ESB: its insertion interrupts the scene's original dramatic tension, the costume doesn't match, the footage doesn't match, and the scale makes it look like it's just a dude in a suit.

I wasn't sure if it was only me seeing those matte lines in Jedi because I don't have a top of the line tv. Disappointing that it seems to be a general problem seen by others. I have to adjust the picture color on my screen so dark that it's distracting in others scenes Drives me nuts.

They're just there, it's not a calibration issue. Drives me nuts he tinkered with so much else but left those. They're noticeable in Empire as well, during many of my favorite scenes.
