Then why keep Hayden at all? He doesn't need to appear older.

Speaking of which, I also prefer the simple bright green Lucasfilm text (again, as on the original theatrical DVDs) compared to Lucasfilm's later logo (as used on the Blu-rays), which goes from green to silver to gold. The logo itself is great - as a designer, it's the treatment with the glowing and the sparkling and the marble look and the changing color multiple times that I find to be... not very good, to put it mildly.

That said, I don't mind your suggestion of simply leaving off all those logos. I'd much rather have no logos than have the Disney logo (or other logos) added.

It's a weird thing with Star Wars to me. I watched the original trilogy Star Wars movies endlessly on VHS. I don't consider the logos important to any other movie - but that 20th Century Fox fanfare... to me, I'll always consider that to be part of the Star Wars soundtrack.
Yeah I hope if the OUT is restored, a deal can be reached so the Fox logos remain. Maybe if theyre released before Fox loses the rights in 2020? Then again there was the digital versions from last year that cut the logos, aside from ANH. If the logos cant remain, then they should do what they did with TFA. No Disney logo and just a scoreless Lucasfilm logo although in this case it would probably be the plain green text which like yourself I actually prefer over the digital logo. Just the same the Fox logo is as much a part of the movies as anything, especially when you think about the score. I hope they work out a deal to keep the logos.

There won't ever be a Disney logo in front of these movies.

The worst things of the Complete Saga Set are (IMO):

- outdated transfers (extremely digitally processed and altered)
- 5-10 mins upscale on Endor (episode 6), absolutely terrible with combing
- DNR (episode 1, 4-6) and EE (4-6), fake grain (OT)
- the new Krayt dragon call in episode 4
- the colors are wrong and blacks are crushed
- greyish / greenish matte boxes around Tie-fighters are still not fixed
- lightsabers are still not fixed (or look even worse thanks to Lowry's treatment)
- Vader has a pink lightsaber in episode 5 (it was clearly red on VHS and on the untouched DVD)
- outdated 1997 CGI - unsharp new digital footage, doesn't fit to the rest

In terms of comparison with the DVDs, they did fix a few things regarding the lightsabers ( such as the DVD's wrong contrast in the ROTJ scene where the sabers cross in front of Palpatine's face, or the wrong color which appeared in the Falcon scene on ANH's DVD ), but they left a lot of things unfixed.

With some things, I'm doubtful they would even see them as a problem in need of fixing, as they're considered part of the SE legacy, such as the overdone blue color on Hoth. Unfortunately.

I've always said, a man should never be seen waving a long pink shaft in his son's face.

By passes they meant they passed them right by.

Seriously though, the worst of it has the to be Luke's saber while training on the Falcon in ANH. No way they fix one shot and make it blue then randomly leave all other shots untouched with a white blade? Talk about garbage quality control.

Consistency within a scene? MEH!

All this b*tching about the pink saber cracks me up, it's always been pink in certain shots. The lightsaber VFX was farmed out back in the day as they were racing to finish ROTJ which is why it's so variable from shot to shot with white cores, no white cores, pink, red etc.

The lightsabers still don't match from shot to shot because the Ewok needed to blink and R2 hidden behind magic rocks. Get your priorities right people.

But, but...Lucas always meant it to look that way in 1977.

Don't you get it? The amount of effects wizardry required to move a medium-sized rock didn't exist in 1977. It would've required at least two stagehands to lift, and that wasn't in the budget!

Same problem happened in the cantina scene with the inability to have a blaster gun held by a guy in an alien suit misfire at point-blank range. Rotoscoping single laser bolts on-screen for 2+ frames just couldn't be done with mid-70s technology.

It has not been pink. The entire blade + core is pink and purple in a shot and I compared it to the untouched DVD. There it's red and white.

I think the point is more that if you're going to tinker with anything it would be to make the sabers look perfect and remove the matte lines around the ships, yet these are pretty much the only two things Lucas DIDN'T fix. It's weird.

Yup, but that's just how Lucas rolled in recent times: tinker with the stuff that doesn't need it while the other stuff that looks super creaky is left alone. I don't think we'll ever understand what goes on in his head.

Sorry, you were talking about Empire, I thought it was the customary whining about ROTJ. I was looking at some old VHS tapes the other day and the pink saber is very much in evidence throughout the Luke/Vader fight in ROTJ.

I actually find it ammusing that the matte lines around the rancor werent removed until 2004 even though that scene was used as an example in the SE featurette from 1997 when they were discussing the removal of matte lines.

Just goes to show you the shoddy restoration work done on the OT.

I just hope someone gets their head on straight if and when they tackle a full 4k restoration of the original theatrical trilogy.
