It's not a compositing issue, it's the fact the motion control track only goes so far during filming. It's one of those "hopefully they won't notice with everything else going on" deliberate mistakes that were left in because of limitations of the technology (CGI objects can start and go back as far as needed).

They had the same probelm with the Emperor's arrival, the first quad of TIEs disappear towards the end of the shot, they fixed it in the SE by trimming the end of shot several frames. They had no such option except to digitally replace the fighters in the Endor battle.

The ending especially is, I thought, even more powerful when seen in the context of the saga and not just as the climax of the original trilogy.

So, I can finally see where you were coming from now.

I think the last time the whole 'hatchet order' (or whatever it's called) thing came up I watched the films like this: IV, V, II, Clone Wars S6, III, VI. Heck of it is, I like Phantom Menace but it feels so detached from everything else that I've got no compunctions about dropping it from a saga viewing, and Clone Wars S6 fills in SO much of the plot that Lucas couldn't be arsed to fill in that I think it's essential (and it's still canon, kids!). Also, having Empire and Clones next to each other heightens the sense of 'rhyming' between the two, as does having Sith and Jedi next to each other, natch.
I don't even have a blog...damn press will make up anything. Seriously, that's the freaking Mirror...did the reporter call me? No. Try to contact me at all? No. They just made that up. The "Ernest Rister Order" was a post on a message board I tossed off as a lark back in 2005 or even earlier. Insane how something so inconsequential spread so quickly.

Still...thanks to the Mirror, when I have film debates with my wife now, I remind her I'm legendary mythical blogger Ernest Rister. Then she throws a shoe at me.

Boy, am I glad those Ewoks blink now though!
Am I evil for liking the blinking Ewoks?

That wont work for me...I NEED that slave girl scene.

As far as Greedo shooting first, on the most recent (3rd) fx pass in 2011 they cut out 10 frames so its about the same timing as the original shot, they do still both shoot but its over so fast you barely notice. They even seem to have smoothed out Han's awkward head movement a bit. The newest version of the controversial scene is tolerable.

But still not good enough. They should have gone back to the original. George can't admit he ****ed up.

The redone '04 version is a big improvement, but I'd still like to see it redone a second time with a Jabba that looks more like his ROTJ self. I guess that's never going to happen though, I can't see them bothering to tinker with the films even more, especially not now that Lucas is out of the picture.

Maybe a Wolf of Wall Street-esque origin story?

Thats how I look at it-- as a force ghost, you can probably appear in the form that you want. I just think of it as in the original version, Anakin chooses to appear to Luke as the older fatherly-figure, basically the face he saw behind the mask but complete and undamaged from his turn to the dark side.

And then in Lucas' "Saga" version, he appears as a mirror to Luke, as if to say "heres what I was like at around your age before I was turned." This version only works at all if you watch the prequels beforehand, either in Episode order or Machete Order.

Very good point sir! Even though I hate the way the scene was done it really made seeing young Anakin resonate a lot more for having just budged the prequels up against it, whereas Sebastian Shaw works just as well in isolation.
