I have 720p versions of the despecialized trilogy although I am not sure what version. They look fine and will do me well until Disney wants my money.I bought a copy of the Complete Saga on BD used but couldn't take the changes so I sold it. I don't even think I bothered watching the extras.

I'd actually like to see a Disney task force sit down with Lucas and nut out the actual issues that need to be addressed -- VFX, light sabers, augmented scenery, visual consistencies and magic rocks -- that don't stuff up the plot or become risible, and go back to the originals and redo them from scratch in HD quality.

I'd personally buy that set of the OT all over again.
AGREE 100%!!!

I am all for a new and updated Saga as long as OT fans FINALLY get their long sought after theatrical versions too.

As I've said before, as it stands purists remain unhappy because there's no theatrical versions available and even SE fans remain mostly unhappy because the actual quality of the SE updates have never truly been up to par. Which is why se fans flock to adywan's edits. If a fan can take the time to match the ESB Palpatine with the ROTJ Palpatine imagine what Disney could accomplish with their vast recources and the native material.

Sure these box sets will always sell no matter what b/c we LOVE SW...but we still want it presented as best as possible ideally.

I think after ep. 9 is complete that would be a GREAT time for Disney to go to work on these movies. Release a beautiful OT theatrical set and a solid and consistent final SE which includes all 9 movies. EVERYONE WILL BE HAPPY.

GL being involved could be a good or bad thing. If he's holding up the show by insisting dated, out of place SFX shots from 97 or 04 remain then no thanks. But if he's willing to listen to opposing views on things like Greedo shooting first and that nightmarish Jedi Rocks then by all means keep the creator involved consulting wise.

All that wishful thinking aside I'm curious what we'll actually get in the years to come.

Great detail, some dirt and the colors are sorta faded. I know they did some color correction, but I really don't know all those details.

Did Team Negative1 release their versions of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi? I thought that only the original Star Wars was available from them.

The funny thing is that Anakin didn't need to be elderly at that point in time (ROTJ), but Lucas ended up going that route with the casting of Shaw. According to the prequel timeline Anakin should only be about 46 or so in ROTJ, and there's nothing in ANH or TESB that forces Anakin to be any older than that. In the ANH novelization Vader was even referred to as a "boy" when Obi-Wan was training him.

I'm not sure. But I have at least two versions of the Negative 1 scans. Like, version 1 or 2 or something. I haven't heard about Empire or Jedi.

I guess with the PT timeline established it officially shaved 10-15 years off Anakin and Obi-Wan.

When I watch the OT I watch the Despecialized Edition as well.
I printed off sleeves for them & that's the only OT version on my shelf.

Another thing about Hayden's ghost: How the hell is a first-time viewer supposed to know who that is, if they didn't watch the Prequels first? While Shaw's appearance at the end of the film makes sense to even young children, as he's clearly the same person who was under the mask just a moment earlier, Hayden Christensen isn't going to be known unless you watched the Star Wars films in Episode order, I-VI. With the replacement of Shaw, Lucas has signaled that he doesn't care about the people who are viewing the films in release order, or people who don't have interest in seeing the Prequels.

Of course I get the 'continuity' Lucas intended with the special editions to flow with the prequels. But I always believed and still what a disservice it was to omit the actor's who originally played those bits parts in key sequences. The Emperor in Empire and Boba Fett's lines in TESB and Anakin in ROTJ. Even down to the poor excuse of sound bites as in Luke's fall in Bespin City and the wilheim scream. Vader's original line at the end of TESB when he is pissed he lost Luke and simply says: "Bring my shuttle", to the over extended and off key James Earl Jones "Alert my star destroyer of my arrival" and of course the deliberate "NOOOOOO". It's pretty well documented of Uncle George's dry sense of humor and I can see him sitting at the editing bay snickering to himself like a six year old child hahahah let's see what else I can change because I can.....

Or that's how Uncle Owen looked back in the day, when he was chasing skirts around the farm.

Good old mythical Ernest, I had no idea you were known on this side of the water too.

I think the last time the whole 'hatchet order' (or whatever it's called) thing came up I watched the films like this: IV, V, II, Clone Wars S6, III, VI. Heck of it is, I like Phantom Menace but it feels so detached from everything else that I've got no compunctions about dropping it from a saga viewing, and Clone Wars S6 fills in SO much of the plot that Lucas couldn't be arsed to fill in that I think it's essential (and it's still canon, kids!). Also, having Empire and Clones next to each other heightens the sense of 'rhyming' between the two, as does having Sith and Jedi next to each other, natch.

^ I did that, but I included Episode I and watched both Volumes of the old Clone Wars as basically an entire 2.5-hour movie instead of the new show's Lost Episodes. That last season is amazing, but would've taken too much time

When I finished my marathon this past weekend I realized ROTJ is the one that really benefits the most from having seen Episodes I-III. That's when it all comes together, and so much of what transpires in the film has more weight to it when you know the backstory. The ending especially is, I thought, even more powerful when seen in the context of the saga and not just as the climax of the original trilogy.

So, I can finally see where you were coming from now.
