Declining reputation? On the internet I often hear people rank ROTJ as their favorite OT film. Back in the day that opinion would have been considered laughable by many.

As a story-structure monkey, I don't get this line of thought. While characters are left with with questions, the story itself is this...antagonists attack, a particular antagonist has his own agenda, protagonists escape and endure to fight another day. It's not "half a movie", it's a chapter in a war. The entire movie is an escape from defeat, but it's really about the characters surviving the assault to regroup. Sure, there are a lot of questions at the end, but the essential structure is escape from ongoing oppression, and the rebels escape to fight another day. It isn't half a movie, it's the story of how our lead characters deal with it and survive. So, so bizarre to hear people like Mr. Whedon complain the film leaves you hanging, when the true arc of that movie is the survival of the rebellion, and they do. That's the movie. The Empire under Vader loses. They fail to crush the Rebellion, they fail to capture Luke, everything they want to achieve outside of chasing the rebels off of their secret base fails. Han is captured, Luke has to grow up, but essentially the story is bad guys try to defeat the good guys, bad guys FAIL fail to crush the good guys, the board is reset, roll credits. It isn't half a movie. It's a movie.

Tons of Jedi hate exists now, thanks to the internet. It's like Temple of Doom and Lethal Weapon 2, movies I always thought were beloved classics but now thanks to the internet I realize tons of people hate. I even saw an article the other day titled "in defense of Return of the Jedi" which had an opening paragraph acknowledging it is terrible but then saying it has "some" good things in it.

I actually prefer Jedi to Star Wars, I think. I dunno.

Yep, and some people think Nolan's a good filmmaker as well. You see how this freedom of choice thing works?

Those were the Battlestar Galactica (Vipers, Raiders) toys that had the problem, not Boba Fett. Once the BSG issue made news, Kenner revised the figure while it was still in the prototype stage.

BTW: Took forever to get mine (an eternity to a young person), and it was delivered in a tiny white box, not a package. I actually got three from sending multiple sets of proof-of-purchase to Kenner.

Our local reviewer in San Diego gave it a pretty brutal review (one star).

They also did the same for Last Crusade (star and a half).

Wow, this is actually the first time I'm hearing anything negative about Lethal Weapon 2.
I know 3 and 4 aren't as well liked.
But I always hear nothing but praise for 1 and 2.

And yes, I know everyone an opinion, but like I said, this is the first time I'm hearing any negative against the 2nd.

I know Crusade is kinda split. I hear equally good and bad things about it.

Return of the Jedi is my favorite Star Wars movie, and I want people to stop saying bad things about it. With the exception of the alterations, you can hate on them as much as you want. But the original 1983 theatrical release version, leave that one alone.

If somebody goes completely malicious on you for your opinion they don't have any credibility anyway. They can find fault with the movie in a reasonable way and if not they can safely be ignored.

People who like the Prequels have to put up with people saying bad things about them all the time. Man up.

I saw it in 1983 and came out of the cinema deflated at a tender age. It's not terrible but the whole opening act is a complete disappointment - we'd hyped ourselves up for three years expecting Lando and Chewie to lead the rescue of Han Solo and built Boba Fett up into this incredible villain and, well, what we got was not so good as what we imagined. Our fault perhaps, but I can't help but still feel disappointed with it.

I don't mind the Ewoks, and I don't mind the last act but, (and I get shot down for this all the time but I don't care), I much prefer it now when you view it in light of the prequels - after not seeing him in the flesh for two movies, you finally get to see how Palpatine ends up.

Saw it seven times in the theater (the most of any film ever). It's not my favorite, but there's a lot to love there. The Ewoks never bothered me. I just felt the Empire should have inflicted way more attrition on them as they're a primitive race, and taking out trained, armed, armored soldiers was just plain dumb. I get stormtroopers getting killed in one blaster shot, but the armor should have at least protected against projectile weapons...and rocks. The space battle of Endor is still the most epic and exciting battle of it's kind ever made.

Don't worry about other people's opinions. Movies are subjective. Love what you love.

True, but I very rarely hear anybody say how they hate something who can say why in a way that I can take seriously. Valid criticism is always fair. Bad criticism exposes idiots.

Exactly this!
I deal with prequel hate all the time.

I grew up with 4, 5 and 6. That was all I knew for 20 years until 1 came out.
With 1, I went from enjoying it, to hating it, to enjoying it to hating it and on and on. this happened up to a year after Attack of the Clones.
Both became hated and loved and hated and loved.
I love all 6.

The special editions were bad-ish...
Until the 2004 dvds
Now the special editions are pretty good.

the 2011 cuts are terrible.
As a saga 1-6 2004 special editions are really good together.
As a stand-alone trilogy, the original theatrical presentations are the way to go.

I'll never watch Force awakens again.

Wouldn't go that far, it's an entertaining movie but it does nothing for me in a larger sense the way the other six do.

You mean SW7: A Newer Hope? I am glad I do not have it in my collection. I have never cringed so hard at a movie, it was a blatant tribute by JJ to play it safe.

The prequels were flawed but at least they added to the narrative.

The only reason I have it is because I got it for free + $3 from that promo last year? this year? The top cash back promo.
