Well, the character was meant to be annoying, as well as duplicitous and treacherous and pathetic and the movie succeeded in portraying him that way.

Jar-Jar was meant to be cute, cuddly and funny and GL only succeed in annoying everyone over the age of four.

He's one of the most vital characters to the PT saga, even if his role in E2 and E3 isn't as large. Though still as important.

Plus he demonstrates the value of all life, which is an aspect of the symbotic relationships metaphor in the films.

The movies are terribly repetitive. We don't need Frodo and Sam tell us the same stuff for 12 f$5^ing hours, nor do we have to see Gollum have a split personality ten thousand times.

Talk about pacing.

The casting was appalling (Orlando Bloom, Huge Weaving, Liv Tyler...), the VFX looked faked the moment they were released in theaters, but were praised to heaven, the dialogue is some of the worst in any movie.

I take Steven Sommers' Deep Rising any day over that junk.

The only thing good about LOTR were the location shots of beautiful scenery.

The wizards fighting in their pajamas didn't help much either.

You are right, let's not get into a LOTR versus Star Wars discussion on here.
Like I said earlier:

Man, I hope we get more movies eventually. Whether it is the same time period or not.

Stopped collecting pretty much a short time after Revenge of the Sith. Other than the occassional Jar Jar figure.
Haha! I collected Hasbros 12" line back in the day, and on of my favorites was Jar Jar. Now, Sideshow has my money, and I hope one day they make a PF statue of him.

God, I hope not! LOTR is another of my favorite movies along with The Matrix Trilogy. I could go the rest of my life with the LOTR, Matrix, and SW movies as my only viewing and be perfectly happy.

Bringing up LoTR in a Star Wars forum is like bringing up how awesome PCs are at an Apple convention.

I think I'm one of the few that likes both. (Star Wars and LoTR, not Apple/PC)

Sideshow rules... It took me 300+ pieces to stop collecting their stuff.

But Sideshow/Weta was the pinnacle, eh.

Off to dig the thread for more wild surmising.

As much as I love the Star Wars movies and I had everything when I was a kid "Toys from ANH-ROTJ when they first game out" for you to say Jar Jar was not annoying and Gollum was is just crazy! LOTR is 10 times better movie than Star Wars is, and I love the Star Wars sage. How many awards did all 6 movies of Star Wars win compared to just 3 movies of LOTR. Better acting, better writing and better special effects.

Agreed, but I'd add the Bourne trilogy to that list.

Yeah, the Sideshow figures are fantastic. And I hope they do a Jar Jar soon also.

I have the Gentle Giant bust they did of him a while back. It's really nicely detailed.

That's not really a valid argument (although I agree with your overall point) because the award shows have always seemed to be against Lucas.

Awards mean diddly squat. Especially given the Hollywood system.

Ever since Lucas cut ties with Director's Guild of America he's been pretty much blacklisted from winning awards.

I remember that. I would seriously love for Sideshow to make a PF, LSB, or 1:1 bust of JJB. Never had a problem with the character. He cracks me up.

Right, that was the reason. Good for him though. The awards have been BS for decades, as far as I'm concerned. There have been so many wins that were total BS it's not even funny.

Yeah, I really am hoping that Sideshow will do a 12" figure of Jar Jar Binks at some point.
And while he'd likely be in his E1 outfit, I wouldn't mind if he had his E2 Senator Robes, the one form Padme's Apartment.

Lucas is an independent filmmaker. They obviously can't stand him.

At least the scores by John Williams, the costumes by Trisha Biggar, set designs, art design, editing, ....you name it should have been awarded.

Just the costumes in the PT were the most evocative creations I have ever seen.

100% agreed!

There must have been conspiracy, because no one can argue the incredible artistry that went into making the PT.

In 2005, Narnia was nominated for effects and Sith wasn't. Lol.

The other two prequels were nominated in the category though. Nobody can really argue against The Matrix and The Two Towers winning in '99 and '02 though.
