The only extras of value (2011 Blu-ray box set) were the OT deleted scenes and vintage "Making of" specials.

That wonderful Empire of Dreams documentary is exactly why I have held onto the 2004 DVD set. That and the lack of "No. No!" in ROTJ.

Well we still have to hang on to our DVDs because we all know Disney will just put the old extras on their streaming service and that's that. I want one definitive Blade Runner/Alien-esq set.

But i hope they can release the original unaltered trilogy in 4K.

If there’s a stipulation not to include them, I imagine including them as an extra over streaming would be a loophole.

Why do you imagine that? Do you think Lucas can only afford lawyers who are stupid?

I think Disney can afford better lawyers. And if such a true loophole exists (like how when they put the original six on streaming, or maybe for the UOT on a future format), they wouldn’t be doing anything illegal.

Does anyone think that Lucas put all the changes in the original trilogy just to upset the fans? Him adding No No to the Bluray set was like him doing that on purpose to mess with people when we finally got Star Wars on Bluray.

I don't think so and this is coming from someone who has seen every interview with him over the years. I think he doubts himself quite a bit and changes his mind regularly. Unusual for men it seems, but hey there it is.

I refuse to buy OT on blu ray simply because george has never fixed opening shot of ANH that has lasers missing their vibrancy, because of the lowry restoration. Not my money. I got prequel trilogy on blu ray though. THE OPENING ICONIC SHOT

Well at the very least, since the whole Disney / Fox landscape has dramatically changed, maybe things will change for the better regarding a future saga home release.

That's just me being insanely optimistic of course.

A proper OT theatrical release + a revised SE are the 2 glaring things that would get me interested in buying a complete box set all over again.

But if the OT remains locked in the vault and the dated SE is lazilly re-released as is with screwed up colors, miscolored light sabers, garbage mattes and silly things like darth Vader's 'no' at the end of ROTJ, then they can keep it.

Yes, it's possible that when Lucas asked them to put a clause in forbidding that the UOT be released under any circumstances, they accidentally specified only a handful of formats.

It's also possible there's a clause in the contract that says if Lucas opens a door left-handed within a year, he forfeits all the money.

That "no no" is right up there with Greedo firing. I couldn't believe it when I first heard it.

My pipe dream is a release with the original theatrical version of each along with a Bladerunner type "final cut" eliminating the horrid changes like the Rock, no no, and Greedo firing but still keeping some of the better changes (97, 2004, and 2011 cuts can all burn in hell). There is so much money in such a release, I guess it makes too much sense to make it a reality.

I don’t think so. I think he’s just a perfectionist and I think his vision got skewered the more he did the Prequels. The ‘No’ in ROTJ was likely his way of bookending it with ROTS but I doubt he did it to piss people off. Then there’s times where I think he other looks it and that was likely a situation that led to the Rocks. For better or worse, Lucas makes films for himself and I think that’s always been the case with him. He never considered himself a Hollywood filmmaker. Practically all his films were made anywhere but there. That’s why he turned LF to Disney since he knew the films he wanted to make at this point in his career would be more appealing to him and not much to mainstream audiences.

Has anyone here gotten a disc that had a small amount of red ink on it? And do all the slip cases have that black security thing taped on the inside or is that something only Best Buy does?

What a screwed up assumption to make. No, he doesn't care about what you think, nor me or anyone else. Nor should he. He changed because he felt the changes were necessary to better represent whatever he views the shot/scene/film should and can be. That's it.

I think he has a mixture of stubbornly doing what he wants while also trying to please fans. When he realized how much people were annoyed by Jar Jar, he reduced that character to one line in the remaining two prequels. He also shortened the length of time between Greedo's and Han's shots with each release.

Of course I don't. He clearly feels what he's doing improves the films. I'd have much more tolerance for his "original vision" excuse if it didn't change more often than his shirt though.

According to Pablo Hidago on Twitter, the chances of the OUT coming out are still slim and none and aren't related to the studio buyout. If there's a God, he's wrong, but we'll see.

Much as I'd like to believe that there's money in such a release, I have to wonder. The physical media market is all but dead, and the number of fans who'd pay for the OUT is probably pretty small. 99% of people probably really don't care.

It's Star Wars. If no money in such a Star Wars release then in what?
