Yeah. Most TESB changes I don't mind. But that one drives me nuts. It ruins the flow of the movie.

I don't think the ROTS novel really went there definitively. Sure, it can be read that way, but it falls short of confirmation. It was other sources that went there: McDiarmid's article in Star Wars Insider, and I think a comic or two. I heard there was something in the new canon, but I'd have to look up the specifics. ( Also, the Sidious visage looked a little gnarly already in Tartakovsky's Clone Wars, for whatever that's worth. )

If you look at his makeup in Ep II you can see he's already starting to look much older and more haggard than his Ep I appearance (also tying in with his Clone Wars look), Lucas actually said that the plan was to progressively make him more and more like the Emperor of old until the mask finally slips...only to have Palps in Ep III start out looking much more fresh-faced than he does in Ep II. I guess they have botox in a galaxy far, far away?

Whenever I see this thread back at the top I get some hope that this saga might actually be getting a 4K release. I’m assuming Disney might wait until IX tho, or the acquisition of Fox.

It’s just so stupid because he’s disembarking onto the Death Star 2.

Also... who the eff cares if we see Vader land on his ship? I mean, I can understand Lucas wanting to change things because the technology wasn’t good enough when the movies were first made, or to change something to line them up more with the prequels. But this just made no sense at all lol.

Zero chance this gets a 4K release before IX.

It's not a problem, but there came a point where it was decided that there shouldn't be any readable Earth languages in the movies and it should all be alien. So it's consistency that's the issue, not the language itself.

That’s what I was asking about before. When was the text switched from English to an alien language in the series? I don’t really see the problem with having English text. I mean, they’re speaking English in the movies.

I'm not 100% but I think there isn't an English in the Star Wars universe, they're speaking basic to each other. It's a bit like us watching a movie based in Russian and all the Russians speak English, it's suspension of disbelief on the audiences' part.

They've always tried to put the alien text in, but some English slipped through, either by design or mistake (the interrogation period's syringe has 'Made in England' on it). So when the special editions were conceived they had the opportunity to change it, but Lucasfilm as always wasn't very consistent.

I was thinking of re-visiting the old laserdiscs for the original Trilogy for the Fourth.

I own the Definitive Laserdisc BOX set + the widescreen LDs that I think were released around 1995 which were the last LD releases of the films before Lucas applied changes for the Special Edition versions. (I have that set also.

but between the Definitive and the '95 era LDs anyone out there prefer image quality and audio on one release or the other?

thinking I will watch them tonite, in Dolby Surround Stereo

That and the change in Yoda's sinister music is unforgivable. As bad as the " NOOOOOOO " in Jedi.

AFAIK it was the widescreen LDs that went onto the 2006 DVD bonus discs and is the best PQ/AQ for the OUT that you can legally buy.

Might pull out my widescreen 1995 VHS of ROTJ tonight, so I can see the best version of the movie.

The consensus between those two is usually the 93 Definitive Collection, as it is CAV, and apparently has less filtering/DNR which was applied to the 95 THX releases. But to my eyes, the 95 THX releases look better. Slightly sharper and better blacks/contrast. Audio wise, both rock.

Although if you are super hardcore, you will track down the 1986 Japanese Special Collection releases. https://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/11017...ial-Collection

The first time they were ever presented in widescreen on home video. While absent of any filtering/ video processing, they look bad to me. Much too washed out.

But honestly, the best looking home video release is the 97 Special Edition LaserDiscs. Granted, its the Special Editions, but they look absolutely gorgeous, and sound incredible.

I own the 2006 LE DVDs, but at this point I've only held onto them as the last officially licensed release of the original films, not because I have any interest in watching 1993 laserdisc transfers on a 55" 4K TV.

For me, Despecialized is where its at for the time being. For the first film, the Silver Screen Edition is amazing too.

Disney's soundtrack releases for the saga today (or at least the prequels) use the film mixes instead of the remastered album mixes Sony did a year or so ago and it's interesting. Some tracks are certainly more "epic."
