That's just BS ... and the whole "If you get in contact with the right people" dodge ... How would someone get in touch with "the right people? if they weren't into downloads in the first place? And if that "someone" was going to make discs, etc., wouldn't they deserve something for their expenses and time - or should someone just trust charity to "keep it pure"?
I've never seen 'em, don't own 'em and I'm not really interested - but, if I wanted them and someone put together a really nice set which folks here said were as good as it gets, why shouldn't I expect to pay a fair price? Rejecting that option is as lame as the folks who say that everyone should just be happy with the official, edited released versions - which some folks obviously can't stand. Filling niche needs is what capitalism is good at - and a "fair" return is part of the deal.

I'm against paying for the Despecialized versions too, but if what you're really paying for is the packaging, I'm not sure that's a problem. If you bought a customized box set with blank Blu-rays and you burned the discs yourself with files you downloaded, what's the difference between that and having the person you're buying it from burn them for you? I'm not exactly sure how I feel about that since it seems sketchy, but it can also be argued that you're paying for the customized packaging. I'm definitely against just buying burned BDs of the films, though.

Note that not all players will play all video/audio codecs, though. An .mp4 recorded with H264 and AAC should play on most devices. HEVC/H265 can be problemetic on a lot of tvs/players and will need to be re-encoded in most cases unless you're playing them on a computer.
You can also do it over cat 5/6 without any issues. I just recently finished making lossless .mt2s and .mkv versions of virtually my entire BD collection. It took me 10 hard drives and over two years.

Yeah, I'm not a tech-savvy guy. In fact, I'm kind of like Dr. Grant from Jurassic Park. So if I was going to get the Despecialized Editions, I'd be off to eBay.

Luckily, I have the LE DVDs. Despite their deficiencies, they'll hold me over until an official UOT release comes along (eventually). Nine times out of ten, I just watch the official BDs anyway.

It's a bit of a process to get the Despecialized Editions. First off, and more importantly, you have to have a copy of the Special Editions on BD. It's nice to have the theatrical cuts. The most important one for me was ROTJ. I had the CBS/FOX tapes when I was very young (I was born in 1990, and the tapes were older than me). They started with this logo (though I remember it playing before Empire):

The one I watched more than the others was Return Of The Jedi. Out of the Special Editions, that one suffered the most. I do like some of the SE changes in the Trilogy, but the Blu Ray changes we kind of the last straw for me (though I never liked Jedi Rocks). I didn't like Obi-Wan's new call in ANH, and I could not for the life of me defend Vader's "NO!" in ROTJ

I was 8 years old when Ep. 4 came out. Obviously a big fan of the OT. That being said, I liked the prequels. I’ll never fully understand the hate for them. My only major complaints, Lucas went CGI bat shit crazy. IMO Ep. II was the biggest offender. The horrible dialogue and no romantic connection really hurt. I’ll watch TPM over AOTC. I’m not going to hate on the ST. I think Disney played it safe with TTA to make fans comfortable. What confuses me is going from playing it safe and then you make TLJ? I liked it but it was a huge leap from TFA. I especially can’t watch any of the Canto Bight scenes. Completely useless subplot. At the end of day. I’m happy to have SW movies being made.

Anybody unhappy with the Disney movies should look into reading the old Expanded Universe novels (classified now as Legends). Some great stories in there, kinda wish the just took some of these and adapted them.

I like the new movies well enough but the older movies and novels are classics imo.

I shouldn't have said "all of a sudden" because you are right that it's been many years now. But I remember when they came out and the overwhelming feel from people at the time was that they were great and they were really excited to see what happened next etc. At least those were the vibes I saw. I mean I'm sure people had concerns and their issues (Jar Jar, anyone?) but the real hatred for the prequels on any kind of mass scale didn't seem to come until a few years after they had all been released and it seems to grow with each passing year. At least that's been my observation - I could be wrong.

1. I'm rewatching the OT now. It seems positively anachronistic how much of a sausage-fest it is.

2. When The Phantom Menace came out, it was widely criticized for its racial and ethnic stereotypes. (Jar-Jar = black / minstrel character, Watto = money-grubbing Jew, Nute Gunray and co. = Asian / Fu Manchu-style villains.)

3. Showing and humanizing the people who serve as Stormtroopers is a great story idea. Why would you have a problem with the helmet coming off, and it's a black guy? When Lando first walks out onto the landing platform in Empire, were you like, "Goddamn it, HE'S BLACK!!!"?

There's plenty not to like about Disney-era Star Wars, like the out-of-place contemporary humor, or recycled elements from the OT. But why are SW fans in particular so eager to kick everyone else out of the sandbox?

Why does this hate keep on happening?

Haven't they ever learned to take Luke's advice and let go of their hate?

This isn't the thread for the new Star Wars films. This thread is for complaining about the terrible sound mixes and color timing of the Prequels and Original Trilogy on BD and Lucas' horrible changes.

I heard that they still haven't released the original trilogy on proper bluray. I have been told this is the 1997 version of Star Wars? Yeah, I'll pass if that's the case. I want the original.

The blu-rays are the 2011 version as opposed to the 1997 version.
The DVDs were the 2004 version as opposed to the 1997 version.

I suspect that has more to do with the viewer than anything in the film. Jar Jar doesn't look, sound or act like any black person I've ever seen.
