AOTC was filmed in 2K so a UHD is unlikely.

It'll be upscaled when it is.

The film also exists in 35mm prints, so a 4K restoration could be likely.

That's the first I've heard of it. Does this exist for ROTS too?

*sigh*

That's not how it works. Most 4K releases come from 2K DIs.

AOTC and ROTS were both shot digitally in 2K. However, HDR could definitely do some good. TPM is the one that needs a new 4K master the most as it was shot in 35mm.

If it was shot in 2K digitally then there won't be any more detail.

Theoretically, no, but if we get a 4K release it can benefit from better compression, a wider colour gamut and a higher dynamic range. So we may see things that weren't quite as clear on the Blu-ray.

I think Clones and Sith were pretty close on BD resolution wise. George been a pioneer was a little too early, so they've been held back a bit.

But that's true without referencing the 35mm prints.

It is. I can't see any reason as to why they'd go from anything put the digital files if they master a 4K release.

Clones, most people seem to forget, was shot both on film and digitally at the same time

There are slight variations in the prints that went to theaters, most notably and the easiest way to tell which version you saw in theaters was Yoda's line at the end...
Film: Begun, this clone war has
Digital: whatever it says on DVD and Blu-ray. The line is similar, but I can't remember the exact phrasing.

You’re thinking of Phantom Menace. Attack of the Clones was all digital.

Yes, Clowns was shot entirely digitally.

Anyway, I have some screenshots from a 35mm print, if anybody is interested:

I remember reading that film prints of AotC looked horrendous but those caps look pretty good to me...

Yeah, they look much better than the actual digital master, in my opinion.

Wow, there's some bad digital noise in that Yoda shot...and that's how I remember a lot of the film looking, especially the darker scenes.

I remember the film prints looking surprisingly good. I was a little bummed, actually, since I'm a "film capture" buff and CLONES clearly showed that the proverbial writing was on the wall for celluloid. I saw ATTACK OF THE CLONES four times in theaters... twice on film, one digital projection... and one time in IMAX. Not IMAX digital, mind you, but a blown-up IMAX print! Looked decent.
