May the force be with you.

I wish the theatricals will get released.

I do too, but if it’ll happen, which I’m skeptical about, I doubt it will when Lucas is still alive.

He has no control over the product any longer. If he did, he wouldn't have called Disney "white slavers."

But Disney have repeatedly said the theatricals won't be coming, for the same reason they haven't been released already.

But everyone knows there is a high demand for them. Why can't they give them what they want already??

Disney May say 1 thing but money talks and they know there’s money to be made with the original unaltered Star Wars movies. If anything the will wait until Episode 10 is released and do a big 4K boxset. And plus when Disney said that they didn’t own the rights to A New Hope Fox did. If Fox wasn’t willing to work with them with the FF or Xmen like Sony is doing with Spider man then there was no way they would do business with them by allowing them to release A New Hope.

No they haven’t. The Kathleen Kennedy interview proves nothing and the only real evidence that there’s no plans for it are Pablo Hidalgo’s Tweets. Aside from that Disney or Lucasfilm have given little to no response on the issue since 2012.

Do I think we'll see remastered 4K/BD releases at some point? Yes. Original versions? Not a snowball's chance in hell.

4K77, 4K80 (whenever that is finished), and 4K83 are awesome and will fill in fine until Lucasfilm finally gives us what we want.

You can't just exclude all the evidence for a thing and then declare that there's no evidence for the thing.

That’s only one bit of evidence. You said Disney has repeatedly said the originals will never be released when there is practically no evidence to the contrary. Pablo does not equal Disney!

I had a friend in a post house a couple years ago who saw first-hand the 4K restorations that were being done, and at that time they were all NON-ORIGINAL editions. My friend couldn't say whether they were 1997, 2004, or 2011 editions... but he knew enough to know they weren't pre-97 "original".

A year or so ago someone on another site posted I think it was an interview with someone who had been involved with the 2004 restorations and at some point he had asked someone at LF about if the originals would ever be restored and they said that at this/that time they had no interest and it would cost too much. But again that’s something that I suppose can taken with a grain of salt. Do I frankly think we will ever get the originals?? Well the more time goes by without them the less meaningful the situation becomes.

Actually the interview was with a guy named Marc Wielage who was a colorist on the 2004 DVDs. Here’s what he said.

‘The first is that because of Georges tampering which goes back to 1999 [sic], the original elements are now damaged and respliced and ruined for ever and ever. That is not true. All the pieces still survive, the original negative pieces still exists. In a hand full of cases, maybe a dozen or two dozen cases, theres a frame or two missing because of splices, film splices, that were made. But those pieces can be reconstituted through various means so its not a lost cause, it is possible.
The second rumour thats out there is that George absolutely detests the original theatrical versions and doesn’t ever wants them out. And the truth of the matter is, number one he sold the studio […] its really Disneys decision now. George does not have a say in it.
The second things is I asked the people at ILM, I didn’t ask George, but I asked some of the other people, do you think it would be possible for us to do this? Is there any harm being doing this way and they said the only reason why we aren’t restoring the original theatrical version of star wars is because it would take too much time and money. And we don’t want to spend the time and money to do it so it’s really a logistics situation, it’s not a creative choice.
Also in George Lucas’s head, the only version of the movies that exist are the ones that are alive in his mind at that moment. So to him the 1977 version of Star Wars no longer exists, only what he sees matters. And its hard to argue with the guy who created all the characters, directed the movie, […] and also owns the copywrites.‘

So I guess make of that what you will. If you wanna take it seriously I suppose it confirms George is not the issue which I assumed anyways. It’s in Disney’s park at this point.

If Disney doesn't think it's cost-effective now, I can only imagine how little value they'll see in restoring the unaltered OT as the years go by.

Not to mention with physical media kinda in its final years if it ain’t done soon it’s gonna be pointless. Restoring the OUT kinda loses its purpose if it’s only for a digital market but that’s just me.

Physical media isn't going to go anywhere, one of 2 reasons:

https://www.pjstar.com/news/20190321...ate-censorship

https://twitter.com/UltraHDBluray/st...88548709773313

Even then, DVD is still outselling Blu-ray (not that that's a bad thing, I'm happy for that).
