Thank God I don’t give a damn what others think.
I have enjoyed every Star Wars offering since I saw the original, theatrically, opening week.
Good news for me is, clearly Disney likes them some Star Wars too and will be pumping them out for years to come.
Good time to be a fan.

I don’t think that’s the point of a ‘yo mama’ joke, though the Hux exchange would only loosely qualify as well.

The point of a "yo momma" joke is to explicitly insult someone's mother. "Yo mamma is so ..."

There is no such thing in TLJ.

It's interesting how often people find it necessary to invent things to complain about. The other day somebody immediately called out the "jet-pack" talk featured in the new tv spot as cringeworthy because the term "jet-pack" was anachronistic in the GFFA. At no point is the term "jet-pack" uttered.

That’s what I thought, not about wanting to have sex with her.

the star wars saga IMO ended after episode 6. the new reboot/remakes are still nice but they are a different thing entirely. Rogue 1 is the only thing that is part of the original story. I wish they made lucas write the new ones so they wouldnt be reboots/remakes.

The exchange with Hux might not be a "yo mamma" joke but it is still stupid.

And don't start with the Han line in detention center from Star Wars because they aren't even comparable.

In my mind, it ended after Ep 6 just like Terminator ended after 2. The Disneys are more or less failed experiments for me. I do like Rogue One the best even though it doesn't feel pure heart and soul Star Wars to me, but it's got other things going for it.

The kind of humour used (at the film’s start) in the TLJ doesn’t fit the STAR WARS films.

The droid gags (BB-8 busy effecting ship repairs) weren’t funny either.

Now that they are at Maz's and he knows that Rey is on her way to the Reistance with BB-8, whom the FO are desperately hunting, and Han is cutting him loose anyway but if he did stay with Han he'd be getting chased by the FO too since they think Solo is the lead to finding BB8, staying with either of them seems to be the fastest way to getting mixed up with the FO. Staying away from BB-8 and Solo is the key to keeping the FO at arms length at that stage.

Finn definitely bonds with Poe and Rey quite quickly. But not in the a conscious, I'm-with-you-from-now-on, kind of way. That comes later.

Abrams identified that as an effective way that Lucas conveyed bonding in the first Star Wars movies, by having the characters separated, periodically. And then reunited, whether they planned to or not.
I understand that rationale, it's the execution that's shite. At least the characters in the OT are separated, a lot, whereas in TFA we get this whole "'bye then, I'm off!" bit with Finn only for him to run back to their rescue like 5 minutes later when the First Order show up. At least with, say, Han in Star Wars the return of him and the Falcon during the Death Star run is so unexpected, Han takes his reward and isn't seen again for like the entire next reel until he pops up at the last minute to help Luke.

That's why it's so clunky in TFA to me, because even though Finn goes through the motions of explaining it to Rey we don't get a long period of separation, we don't get some bit where one longs for the other, especially Rey because as soon as she touches the saber and has her true 'awakening' (just realised the Freudian connotations there, Lucas would approve) she doesn't give a flying bantha pudu about Finn or anyone else in that moment. So it feels like the "I'm with you from now on" redemption for Finn isn't earned, at all. It bothered me when I first saw it and it bothers me even more now I've come to terms with other stuff like the lack of backstory, MCU-style humour etc.

It's the usual kind of middle-act problems for movies like this and I think if Abrams had his time over again he'd have done it differently, maybe even have Finn disappear during that whole First Order attack on Maz' castle and then pop up unsolicited to save Han and Chewie at the end of it, which would've been a lovely echo of what Han did for Luke in SW. Instead we get him running straight back into the fray, picking up the lightsaber, "Traitor!" etc. Cool moments for fans but a wasted storytelling opportunity IMO.

I feel blessed I seem to be one of the few people to mostly love The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. They are both imperfect movies, clumsy in their own ways, but they've got it where it counts. Am I alone here?

I absolutely adore The Force Awakens. I can’t believe it spawned so much anger and hatred. I see it as so much more than the “rEmAkE oF a NeW hOpE” that people make it out to be.

I like The Last Jedi well enough, but I’d say it’s my least favorite of the main numbered saga. The parts that are good are REALLY good. The parts that are bad are REALLY bad lol.

For me, the saga is Episodes 4-9 with Rogue One as the only prequel.

What exactly defines "MCU-style humor"?

And lack of backstory? We got that in TFA's opening crawl. Isn't that enough to understand the big picture?

You are not alone!

I've kept quiet for two years, reading all the anti-Last Jedi posts on what seems like dozens of threads, because I just didn't have the time or energy to get dragged into all the bleepstorms. I've tried to keep my expectations for the Sequel Trilogy in check, and so far I have mostly been pleasantly surprised. I think the above quote sums up my feelings very succinctly.

I love the prequels & will never apologize for that . Those are the SW films I basically grew up with & I like them better than all SW films except Empire Strikes Back. If it wasn’t for the prequels I probably wouldn’t be a fan of Star Wars. I’ve also basically only known the special editions of the OT, I might have seen the original versions as a very young kid on VHS (my dad owned them) but if I did I don’t remember.
