Star Wars youtubers are basically the equivalent of Alex Jones in terms of Movie news these days. Star Wars is pretty well known to not do test screenings, and I think you'd hear about them from the bigger movie sites who would actually have the sources to know if they were really testing six different endings.

Fake news. Believing everything you read in all those "online articles" is little more than you WANTING this movie to fail, and grabbing onto any material that supports that point of view.

As it continues to come out that Youtubers like Overlord DVD /Mike Zeroh spread nonsense, it will be interesting to see if they fess up to it.

I don’t want the film to fail, but after the last two sequels, I’m not expecting this final chapter to be anything extraordinary - or even good.

The heck of it is, I've gotten past most of those complaints I once had with TFA, that it doesn't give hardly any backstory for the galaxy etc, that it's too similar to Star Wars etc because TLJ helped to put some of my complaints to bed, as well as better appreciating what little titbits of exposition are given out in TFA...but I still don't like how (ma)clunky the storytelling is in that middle section, when they get to Maz's castle and Finn suddenly decides that he just wants to get away from them despite having risked his neck to get that far with these guys. Plenty of reshot scenes in that stretch of the movie and it shows. I did however get a little tingle down the spine when Rey ignites the lightsaber near the end and that classic SW music starts up, it's a bit of a cheat but I'll allow it.

The Force Awakens bored the shit out of me when I rewatched it. There's also something extremely MCU-esque about it that I found obnoxious.

I like The Last Jedi quite a bit, though. There's a bit fair of filler which drags it down, but when it's focused primarily on Rey, Luke, and Kylo Ren, it's hella good.

No, TLJ sucks because it is a stupid movie that thinks it's smarter than it is.

The Phantom Menace also has its fair share of similarities to A New Hope. This is nothing new.

With Poe at the beginning ("Who talks first? Do you talk first? Do I talk first?") there is absolutely that sense of MCU-esque irreverance, it threw me first of all as I just wasn't expecting it. Finn's the biggest "MCU botherer" in the movie, he gets loads of funny moments (the 'gesturing chin' bit with Solo, his "I'm in charge!" rant at Phasma, plus "You got a boyfriend? Cute boyfriend?") and they still make me smile but yeah, I'm not sure that they fit SW so well which is another reason why TFA still feels kinda clunky to me. I nodded off during a couple of moments despite the excellent 3D on the Blu.

But the humour in TLJ, as comparatively crass as it is, is more of the visual kind (Luke and his green milk, Finn in the bacta suit, the ironing gag) so it feels more classically Star Warsy, though there is another bit at the beginning with Finn taking the piss out of the Imperials of course. Now that I knew what to expect from the character I loved that skit, and when Ade Edmondson said "I believe he's tooling with you sir!" a big grin spread across my face in the cinema and I knew I was gonna dig this movie. Need to rewatch it again soon, I ordered the 3D version from musicmagpie and they sent me Last Jedi 3D alright - with the discs from Force Awakens inside the case!

The force awakens isn't really that similar to the mcu they copied the hell out of a new hope but I didin't see much of any scenes where I'm like oh they are trying to make this flow like an mcu movie.

The last jedi is full of badly Done MCU-esque scenes though.

They also changed the sky in the Di$ney Plus version of Star Wars (Episode IV) when C3PO says: "No more adventures, I'm not going that way". They already changed it for the 2004 dvd, left it the same on the Blu-ray and now they changed it again. Also in The Empire Strikes Back, the shield generator now explodes properly, whereas before you could see it intact through the explosion. I found the DNR and edge enhancement very distracting in certain shots. The sound is very weak, especially compared to the DTS-HD MA of the bluray or the DTS cinema audio of the 1997 special edition. The carbon freezing chamber had some weird colors, but the rest of the color grading is very nice on these new transfers. Overal it looks very similar to the 1997 version.

Fixed that for you. Wrong thread, anyway.

Finn is consistently desperate to get away from the FO during TFA.

Rey and the Solo were his ride to get away from the FO on Jakku, and then later, Kanji Klub and the Guavian Death Gang.

Now that they are at Maz's and he knows that Rey is on her way to the Reistance with BB-8, whom the FO are desperately hunting, and Han is cutting him loose anyway but if he did stay with Han he'd be getting chased by the FO too since they think Solo is the lead to finding BB8, staying with either of them seems to be the fastest way to getting mixed up with the FO. Staying away from BB-8 and Solo is the key to keeping the FO at arms length at that stage.

Finn definitely bonds with Poe and Rey quite quickly. But not in the a conscious, I'm-with-you-from-now-on, kind of way. That comes later.

Abrams identified that as an effective way that Lucas conveyed bonding in the first Star Wars movies, by having the characters separated, periodically. And then reunited, whether they planned to or not.

i hope these 4k transfers are just a stopgap and that the UHD discs will have brand new ones with even more color info & dynamic range.

Bringing back dead characters IMO is poor writing akin to the ridiculous storytelling on soap operas.
The film takes place about 10 years before A New Hope so along time after Episode 1 and whether you like the animated shows or not he was brought back in The Clone Wars so as far as canon is concerned he is alive and doesn't die until a few years before A New Hope.

Ugh! I think I repressed that chin bit with Han, but now it's all coming back to me. Outside of the 'yo mama' bit near the beginning, I much preferred Johnson's sense of humour in The Last Jedi. Pretty sure I laughed out loud when I first saw Luke toss the lightsaber over his shoulder.

As somebody who used to work for Music Magpie, I apologise

I'm referring to the film's humour.

So, just because Poe mentioned Hux's mother, that qualifies as a "yo mamma" joke?
