Thanks! My kid's watching Avatar now so can't make the comparison myself. I think we don't have to worry about The Phantom Menace, now we need the screenshot scientists to do further analysis and confirm.

Thats fine...

Myself, I would like it on the 16th

Some don't mind waiting, others want it right away! Really who cares when, why or where you are or aren't getting it?

btw, it's no more than $100...

Ya, I'm really excited for this, and I think a lot of people are. And all of this promotional stuff is making me even more excited. Star Wars was part of my childhood. Although I'm from the "prequel generation" as I would call it, I love all of the movies, every version even. George is a magnificent storyteller and he has captured the imaginations of not just me, but millions of people around the world. I now see my little cousins getting into Star Wars with the Clone Wars and all of the movies in the saga. It's an awesome feeling to see more generations loving Star Wars!!

Totally agreed.

I was born in 1977, my childhood is Star Wars, I consider myself the "OT generation" as I fell in love with the OT first. Doesn't matter anyway as I love the whole saga (OT slightly more though).

No, the trailer is not confirmed as the blu-ray footage, most think it's just a quick-put together trailer just to say the Star Wars Saga is coming to BD, the video of the "rebel base" thing at Comic Con and the new website/ youtube channel dedicated to the BD release are the only evidence of any new BD transfer footage

I wish I would have been born then to see that OT in theaters, I lucked out in 97' for the Special Edition cause I wasn't a Star Wars fan at the time. It was in 99' when I saw Phantom Menace with my friend. I was in 2nd grade at the time and I can remember how excited I was to go to the movies with my best friend. I didn't know what hit me till after the movie, and that's when I officially became a Star Wars fan, that summer I got my dad to buy the Special Edition on VHS, and the rest was history. I eventually got to see the OT on VHS and on the special DVD in the 2006 release, I still loved it all the same, but some of the changes George did in the Special Edition made a lot of sense, like the landspeeder scene that had vasoline under it and was cleaned up for the Special Edition. There were also some changes that weren't needed, but either way, it had the same story, and I love it dearly!!

Well if those screenshots are from the Blu-Ray's (which they most probably are given the TPM shot again being from the new transfer), then George has gone the cheap ass route and slapped the same old 2004 transfers for the OT on there. That shot matches exactly. Vaders saber is still pink and you can see that Luke's saber core is also pink. And people wonder why all respect for this guy has gone among a huge section of the fan base

Oh, and for those that still will say " you don't know yet. they're probably a new transfer", there is proof (spotted by Harmy over at originaltrilogy.com) in the footage shown at comic con that it IS the 2004 transfer:

Look at the bottom of the frame. This video glitch exists in both the DVD version and the HDTV version. Now look at the footage from the Comic Con preview:

Exactly the same glitch. Something that would be impossible if it wasn't the exact same transfer used.

Adywan's investigation is very telling. Unless indicated otherwise, it's safe to assume the 2004 transfers will be the source for the blu-rays.

And yes, Vader's lightsaber does look pink on the website.

BUT, I still withhold judgment until official reviews or press releases about the transfer. Nevertheless, I can't see anybody reasonably thinking that the transfers are "all-new" and fix any previous issues. Assume the worst, hope for the best.

It seems that it could very well be the same 2004 transfers. Finally we can put that behind now.

Can't wait, 55 days to go!

What I'm curious is if Best Buy/Target will actually advertise it. I remember being disappointed when they didn't for the Alien box set because of the whole "it's an expensive box set" mentality. But hopefully this will be different because as big as Alien is, it isn't 1/3 as big as Star Wars, so hopefully that it'll actually get advertised in Target/Best Buy. Sorry, money is tight but I still like to indulge myself in things I like, and I'm hoping we'll find the box set advertised for $80-100 upon release since I do prefer storebuying things than ordering online if need be.

On the other hand I always loved the movies and some questionable effects won´t distract me from enjoying the most brilliant saga ever made on Blu-Ray.
Picture quality looks really good as far as one can tell from the video, I think.
Yeah, those shots always bothered me. They look so fake. Especially the one shown in the clip.

Yeah, that's what I am trying to do. It's hard of course, since it's SW, and expectations are unrealistically high. I would really hae liked him to go all the way, and fix them once and for all. The old computer graphics in ANH for instance don't make sense, as even if they are just rebels, they surely would have better graphics than that in the SW universe established by the PT.
Well, anyways, life goes on, I suppose.

As soon as the 3D rereleases were announced, I pretty much gave up hope that any major fixes were going to be done for this release. The 3D announcement was a huge red flag. This is a cash grab, and it's one Lucasfilm knows will pay off. When consumers are willing to settle for mediocre, that's exactly what businesses will give them.

^ This is going to be painful in 1080p.

I just don't understand what the trouble is. Why didn't Lucas just tell John Knoll to get all these minor things fixed?
It's so much cheaper and better nowadays.
There is no reason to hesitate, and Lucas isn't exactly poor either.

I am getting The Complete Saga for free, so it's a no-brainer, and I would buy it again, if it the 3-D editions were indeed the final ones, despite John Knoll's statement that those would be the same as the BD set about to released. It's not like they cost a fortune or anything.

Haha. Have to say I'm disappointed that it seems we still have the same errors from the 2004 DVD's. Curious as to whether it was the Prequel trilogy that got more attention (colouring on TPM, probable changes, with for example the digital Yoda) and he therefore neglected the OT or something.
