White UPCs in the US that missing the words "2-Disc Set" above the Paramount logo are all the remastered pressing, this is on the actua saysl art and not the slipcover.
I have what I was told is a remastered version. It is a Canadian version so someone help me here.
It says on the spine 2 disc set and on the back lower right it says the same. The Paramount logo on the back is in the lower left.
Remastered or not?
Thanks in advance and sorry if this has been asked before

Start them movie and wait for the movie title "GLADIATOR" to show up. If it is displayed in yellow/gold, then you have the first edition. If it was displayed in black, then you have the remastered edition.

Is this test valid for the US editions as well as the Canadian ones? If so, I'm a bit surprised nobody has spotted this difference before. It's certainly easier than looking for those codes inscribed on the inner ring of the disc!

From what's I've been reading in this thread, this applies for the US releases. I think the Canadian has the same print, so it might apply for them as well.

I actually am pretty sure it has been mentioned before. The packaging and the disc differences are what is mentioned mostly though, so I can understand if it was missed.

As for answering your question, I'm not sure, but mishal could be right.

Just noticed that the "Buy Now button on the Remastered page: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Gladi...y/14649/#Forum is linked to Amazon for $19.99, whereas the First price is linked to Best Buy for $29.99.

Is is confirmed now that Amazon is only shipping the Remastered version?

Mine starts off black and then turns to the yellow gold after the fog crosses over it. Does that mean I have the remastered version or the old version?

Edit: almost positive I have the old version after looking at some screen shots. Well that sucks. Had it for months now and haven't watched it till tonight.

That sucks man. And there is something I haven't considered, when the title "GLADIATOR" shows up, I don't know if it changes colors from gold to black as the scene is rolling on both versions. I only commented on what other users are stating. The GLADIATOR title color might not be a clear indicator. Even when you look at both screenshots, I am not sure if they were taken at the exact same frame (seconds).

Then again, I hope that I am wrong about this and the the screenshots are in fact clear indicators for the first issue/remastered editions.

On another note, anyone can comment on my previous comment #5618?

When did you buy it?

The remastered version was not released to the public until July of 2010. There are two simple ways to tell it is the remastered version in the U.S. and you don't need to use screenshots to do it.

Step One: Pick up the case with the actual artwork not the slipcover.

Step Two: Turn it over to look at the back.

Step Three: Check out the UPC. If it is yellow, stop. Enjoy you have the remastered version.

Strep Four: If The UPC is white. Look down at the Paramount logo on the case. Do you see the words "2-Disc Set" above the logo? If no, stop, you have the remastered version. If yes, call Paramount for a remastered copy.

That's it. People keep complicating this issue by throwing screenshots, disc numbers, and all sorts of other hokum into the search for a "good" version.

Just stick to those steps U.S. citizens and you will find it much easier and simpler than trying to look for dissappearing arrows or an altered color logo.

And in regards to the exchange program:

It is not a limited time exchange. It is a limited exchange program for consumers who are unhappy with the quality of the DNR'd version of Gladiator.

Don't you mean if the words "2-Disk Set" is on with the white UPC, that mean it is the first issue?

The Remastered edition is either yellow UPC or white UPC without "2-Disk Set"

I could be wrong, but that's what everyone else is saying.

Yes. That is what I meant. I edited my post to reflect that.

All I know is that the remastered edition is infinitely better than the first DNRed release. I was glad that Paramount set-up the exchange program.

On the remastered version, the smoky background on the intro text sequence doesn't have that weird banding seen on the first release. It is much more fluid and smooth (no banding).

But more importantly is the lack of halos around people and objects in the remastered version. Almost everything had a white outline in the first release.

I bought it last summer. I watched it last night, and after watching it I can say without looking at artwork or upc's that I have th original DNR'd version.

FWIW - Ordered from Amazon on Wednesday. Received the movie today.

Looks like I received the remastered version. It has the gold UPC and the black lettering for "Gladiator" at the beginning of the film.

All copies in the US with a yellow UPC are the remastered copies and they will state "2-Disc Set" above the Paramount logo on the back.

That's why I said if you see a yelloe UPC in the US then you have the remastered copy.

Can somebody tell me if in the new version, the title is black and stays black or is black and turns yellow?
FYI, while the yellow UPC might be a real giveaway in the US, it is not in Canada. I just bought a copy from Best buy with the yellow UPC, but the disc is a B1R1 disc and it looks like I have an old version. So can someone confirm my first question? Thanks.

Regardless of the B1R1 indicator, it would be so much simpler for people to be able to tell which version they have just from the colour of the title lettering at the start of the film.

The only doubt now appears to be whether the lettering actually changes colour from black to gold (or vice versa) while it's displayed, or whether it remains a constant colour.

Can someone just answer that? I'm sure several of us would like to know.
