I think you got the remastered version, since the "2-Disk set" was not there. Otherwise it would've been the old release. Some remastered version have the yellow UPC while others don't.

That is what I think.

Is there anyway to tell on watching the movie???

Overall I found the picture pretty decent.. a bit grainy, but wasn't it filmed that way..

I thought I read something about "seeing arrows" in the remastered version???

I would appreciate any other feedback from vets to help me determine if I need to send back or not... thanks..

There is a good explanation posted a while ago by steve_dave. It should be self explanatory.

That is what I know. I don't own any of the releases, so there is no other way I can help you any further.

Another way is to compare the screenshots of both version from this website and try to see which screenshot is closer to your tv. You need a sharp eye for this. Not sure if this will help.

Hoping you end up with the remastered version.

So do I have remastered, or first release?

Please see screenshot 20 (click the "Screenshots" tab above) for a photograph of the difference, with the new release on top and the old release on the bottom. Also please note that some buyers are reporting that Paramount has changed the UPC code on the back of the box to a yellow color with the latest pressing of the new release.
It seems to me you do in fact have the new release since your copy does not have the 2-disc set lettering. Remastered releases either have the yellow UPC or have a white UPC and do not have the 2-disc set on them. I have handled both versions and they are identical. The initial remastered release was the white UPC/no 2 disc version but that was still confusing so the studio went with the yellow UPC.

Thumbs up

I bought another Gladiator from Amazon a couple of months ago just to see what version I would receive. I got the same version that was first released. I checked both versions against each other and they were the same. White UPC dated 2009. I sent it back for my refund of $19.99. If you go to Target (for those of you that don't have the remaster) you will find plenty of YELLOW UPC copies. I was going to pay the $29.99 sticker tag but was pleasantly surprised when the cashier rang it up to only be $19.99. You'll get $10.00 off even though it's not reflective where the movies are. Hope this helps anybody out there!

No, it's not. It is for you because it appeared in your Gold Box today, which is exclusive to each individual.

I ordered a copy 2 weeks ago. Yesterday, I received it in a beautiful slip, with the yellow UCP and 2-Disc set below the Paramount logo. The disc are dull gray.

I only checked the infamous arrow scene, and I could clearly see them in the skies.

I'll watch it soon, and report back afterward.

Did you order it from Amazon?

It's actually easy to tell which version it is because the original version had smoothed out face textures and edge enhancement/outlines over the characters in a lot of scenes. The new version has a layer of fine grain and not so contrasty(no blown-out highlights) The color timing is also slightly different for both versions. Original release has a slightly muted palette while the remastered version has darker tones.

*Added some remastered Gladiator screencaps HERE
