I'm very cost conscious (i.e. really cheap!)- most of my posters are newer films and were acquired for $1-5 each, therefore I'm looking at possibly several archival boxes (with archival tissue paper between posters- as well as archival cardboard as 'dividers' every 10 or so posters). I'll hopefully find an inexpensive flat file at some point. I'm looking at a couple of dollars each for sleeves/pockets. Bags unlimited sells "One Sheet Poster Sleeve. 27-5/8 x 43". 2 mil Polyethylene. No flap." for around $1.50 when ordering 100. That's not to say I won't be much more careful with valuable posters.... I'll spend more for a higher quality Mylar/Melinex pocket...but I only have a few that are rare/older. |

![]() I'll stick with Polyethylene Terephthalate (Mylar; ie, polyester) https://www.gaylord.com/resources/kn...cs-infographic For anyone else, this stuff is 50% thicker than 2 mil for 33% less $$ than the quoted link above https://www.bagsunlimited.com/produc...le-20-offbfont |

Here is a handy guide that help to understand the level of detail that I'm now putting into this. It's becoming quite the hobby. https://p.widencdn.net/aqvadn Regardless of where you buy from, you should be able to easily identify the exact nature and properties of the materials you are purchasing. If you aren't able to do that, then the supplier isn't being honest with you, and are selling you an inferior product, with a lower price to get you to make a purchase. There is far more low grade stuff than not, and the vast majority of collectors really have no idea about what they're actually getting. For most people, it doesn't matter to them anyway. Just remember that your dealing in paper. It's far from being the most durable medium to collect or trade in. There are specific methods approved by the Library of Congress for mitigating those kind of concerns. The materials that I intend to purchase actually come with multiple certificates of origin and authentication. I will eventually be able to offer those same certificates to anyone I sell my products to, or trade with. Last edited by 314carpenter; 05-25-2022 at 08:59 PM. |

Now that I'm back at a theater, I have access to basically every single (current film) one sheet there is. I said I was going to stop buying posters, but now that they're free..
I may need a third Baroque Portfolio.. |

I'm thinking of investing in really nice museum quality frames for a couple of my one sheets. UV resistant glass, acid-free boards, etc.
They'll run close to $300 per frame, but it's probably worth it since a couple of my posters are already yellowing a little from using cheap frames. |

The Library of Congress has a cool page on the proper techniques and a section of questions to ask your framer that are pretty hardcore ![]() Confirm with the framer: - Hinges: Non-adhesive hinging (e.g., photo/mounting corners; polyethylene strapping; mounting strips) whenever possible or Japanese tissue hinges applied with refined wheat starch paste - Matboard (for window and for backmat): 100% cotton rag or chemically purified, lignin-free wood pulp stock; pH-neutral or slightly alkaline (pH 8.5); 4-ply minimum; overmatting provides more protection than "floating" in the window; for matting photographs, board must pass the Photographic Activity Test - Tape for hinging the window and backmat together: Water-activated gummed linen tape; object should not touch linen tape - Glazing: UV-opaque acrylic (also available as anti-static for objects with friable media); ensure the object does not touch the glazing -- use a sufficiently thick-ply window mat or add spacers along the perimeter of the mat - Backing board: acid-free and lignin-free corrugated board (necessitates an additional moisture barrier) or corrugated polyethylene or polypropylene; at least 3 mm thick - Moisture barrier: metalized polyester film; polyester film - Frame: metal or wood (if wood, rabbet should be lined with a barrier film (e.g., aluminum or polyester tape with acrylic adhesive) to prevent acids in wood from moving into the mat package); of sufficient depth to accommodate the complete package including the backing board; constructed to minimize potential for warping, bowing, torquing - Method for securing mat package in frame: pins or brads; no tape Last edited by roar; 08-17-2022 at 03:37 PM. |

I've been collecting movie memorabilia for over 40 years. In my 20's I started framing posters and currently have about 20 up on the walls. They just take up so much space that I don't have any interest in framing more.
