well, IF you are able to scratch it... that is a POSSIBILITY
as with DVD's or CD's all scratches can create an issue and render the disc useless. however, blu-ray discs have a protective coating that prevents scratches very well. search the forums for more info. |

Unless you use your Blu-ray discs to clean your pots and pans you should be just fine. |

True, the data on a Blu-Ray disc is closer to the surface (than a DVD or CD) and also true is the far better protective coating on a Blu-Ray disc (than a DVD or CD). Trust me, I've read all about that months and months ago. Jodi |

I recently ordered Stealth, during delivery the disc somehow has been locked with booklet holders resulting to two scratches from them. The most irritating part was that the center fixing button was holding the disc as well, so these three holding sets didn't give you a chance to open the box in a simple way. The result are two scratches at outer circle, I hope this won't stop the playback... will report as I get something to play it on. For now, i'd recommend to deliver the Stealth in a single two-four discs shipments when there is no empty place in the package

Yes, i thought the salesman was wrong also. The reason i asked that question was because i have a ps3 and was trying to make a choice if i should sell or go with the xbox 360.

Personally, I sold my Xbox360 because I was barely playing it and I knew the PS3 was going to be appreciably better, and it is. I'm primarily a PC gamer anyways, so the PS3 is what I use for BD playback and games that I can't get on the PC pretty much. The 360 is a nice system, but in my case, it literally was the odd man out. That salesman fed you a line of BS, by the way. ![]() |

Are you kidding me? Calling a salesman an idiot for telling you a scratch can ruin your disc, of course it will. Blu_Ray discs are not made of some Superman armor, they scratch just like anything else.
Just because you hear about one salesman saying something bad about about Blu_ray and you all flip out. I own a BD player (PS3), I bought it for gaming only. I gave seen both formats in action and HD-DVD is still superior. For an HD format, Blu_Ray has a lot of artifacts in the picture, I am not impressed. |

The problem with salesmen is that they are not up to date with any of the latest developments in the industry that they 'specialise' in, BB or CC just don't give them the training. The same problem exists here in the UK as well, I went into a Dixons (similar to BB) and had a chat with the TV specialist, when i asked him about Sony's latest range of TVs i.e. the XBR and SXRD range and why they don' have any in stock, he looked me blankly in the face and told me that all Sony TVs were by far worse than anything they had in the store (they stock LG and all sorts of other crap). He then went on to tell me that Sony backs loser formats and that they would not be supporting BD throughout their chain nationwide. One week later Samsung's BD player comes in and they sold out within 2 days! |

That is a neat way to backfire against salespeople who spread FUD & misinformation. Then some (some, not all) UK and European salesman would say that Blu-ray is a loser format and HD-DVD is the cheapest and best way to go. Umm...yeah right. ![]() Blu-ray is still in the lead in UK and entire European union/continent over HD-DVD. Heck, Samsung and Pioneer sent their players out first before Toshiba delayed them twice before releasing the HD-E1 and HD-XE1 players. And after being the first to release titles, Blu-ray still maintains the lead over there in your area. How can they spread FUD now? ![]() |

If it does get a scratch, it might be a problem. But, the ECC is much more robust on BD (and HD DVD) than DVD, so the problems can be corrected better than before. Small surface scratches on the hard coat maybe difficult to achieve. I suspect we need to wait to see reports from the field. Let little Jane/Johnny loose on a Disney title and see what happens. ![]() Gary |

These dumb-a$$ employees seem to all-of-a-sudden be against anything Sony and advise you to get a Xbox 360 and/or HD-DVD player. Last time I checked, there is nothing wrong with any Playstation 3's or Blu-ray players besides the frequent delays and much needed firmware updates. My advise is if anymore salespeople tell you come across start giving you wrong information about blu-ray and bash the PS3, just walk out of the store and don't even look back ![]() |

I was just thinking of the video WickyWoo posted when I read this thread, weird. Also, it is weird that the surface of a Blu-ray is much smoother than a DVD and the edges are not a rough, is there a reason for this? It almost feels like silk, or a slick surface.
