Tell the salesman he's an idiot and that the coating on a Blu-ray disc is over 100 times more scratch-proof than a DVD. The data is very close to the surface on a Blu-ray so it's necessary to have this hard coating.

Unless you use your Blu-ray discs to clean your pots and pans you should be just fine.
