Nope. Your buddy Ernest is the one who brought Library of Congress into it. Now he doesn't like them haha. Apparently they don't update their registry for 17 years.

I've always cast doubt on the credits. The end credits aren't changed to reflect things like theatrical or video rights. There are movies that have changed hands 3 or 4 times over the years and they don't strike new prints every time, and there are movies that have listed little pissant fake companies since the day they debuted only to be locked up right by an apparently-different entity for years and years.. I don't dispute that the credits say (c) 1997 LucasFilm. I'm just not naive enough to think that trumps every arrangement that is in place.

Sometimes you just need to take a step back and consider that your understanding of something is actually a misunderstanding. It happens to the best of us, and the two of you are going to look a lot better if you admit it rather than digging your heels in and being stubborn.

I don't see anyone on here saying they don't want the unaltered versions released. And even though I mostly prefer the special editions, I don't really have the versions I want available in HD. I mainly want the '97 versions, with Bobba Fett's original voice in Empire, the original Anakin ghost and no Vader "Nooooo!" in Jedi. I do also want the original versions, though.

All I know is that when George was prepping The Empire Strikes Back the contract was over 400 pages long. So 2 things are facts. This shit is complicated and information is rarely released to the public and/or media until years later.

So I got it to work. I had to search by RE0000925302 as registration number and stripped of your own bolding (which is why any credible journalist uses "emphasis added" or "emphasis mine") you'll see the 2005 listing still lists 20th Century Fox along with LucasFilm. To fit your idea of what the notice should be there would be no trace of Fox anywhere on that 2005 listing. But they're on there alright.

And these registries aren't specifically for video rights or theatrical distribution rights. LucasFilm holds the copyright to almost anything you'll see on-screen when watching the Star Wars. But 20th Century Fox still controls the film itself.

All they really need to do is put the unaltered versions on their own discs, and have a second disc with the special editions, letting you choose which one you want with seamless branching.

There is one - and only one - copyright claimant listed on that renewal. And it ain't 20th Century Fox.
