Nope. Your buddy Ernest is the one who brought Library of Congress into it. Now he doesn't like them haha. Apparently they don't update their registry for 17 years.

I've always cast doubt on the credits. The end credits aren't changed to reflect things like theatrical or video rights. There are movies that have changed hands 3 or 4 times over the years and they don't strike new prints every time, and there are movies that have listed little pissant fake companies since the day they debuted only to be locked up right by an apparently-different entity for years and years.. I don't dispute that the credits say (c) 1997 LucasFilm. I'm just not naive enough to think that trumps every arrangement that is in place.

You two have repeated the flimsiest evidence over and over again and you've embarrassed yourselves. Sometimes you just need to take a step back and consider that your understanding of something is actually a misunderstanding. It happens to the best of us, and the two of you are going to look a lot better if you admit it rather than digging your heels in and being stubborn.

And what have we here:

I love how GuruAskew demands proof from everyone, yet the only "proof" he can offer is from before 1997, when the rights transfer took place.

Hey Guru, if you want to convince everyone that Fox still owns ANH, you'll have to do better. And you'll have to stop dismissing everyone else's evidence out of hand simply because it doesn't conform to your (flawed) view on the matter.

His link doesn't work and when you Google it it only brings up this page.

I actually expect him to be able to fix his link or explain exactly how he got there, but you're not quote at "boom goes the dynamite" just yet guys.

For some reason they just cant seem to understand that. And to put the icing on the cake they have the versions that they love in HD already, so why are they even taking the "Debbie Downer" attitude toward a potential release? For only one reason....to keep stirring the pot.

You got your versions right? We didn't...If I had the versions that I grew up with and wanted I would not even be in this thread any longer or at least not engaging in the Unaltered Original Trilogy discussion.
I don't see anyone on here saying they don't want the unaltered versions released. And even though I mostly prefer the special editions, I don't really have the versions I want available in HD. I mainly want the '97 versions, with Bobba Fett's original voice in Empire, the original Anakin ghost and no Vader "Nooooo!" in Jedi. I do also want the original versions, though.

I'm in the minority here, but I want the '04 Editions and the '77, '80, '83 Editions on Blu-Ray!

All I know is that when George was prepping The Empire Strikes Back the contract was over 400 pages long. So 2 things are facts. This shit is complicated and information is rarely released to the public and/or media until years later.

So I got it to work. I had to search by RE0000925302 as registration number and stripped of your own bolding (which is why any credible journalist uses "emphasis added" or "emphasis mine") you'll see the 2005 listing still lists 20th Century Fox along with LucasFilm. To fit your idea of what the notice should be there would be no trace of Fox anywhere on that 2005 listing. But they're on there alright.

And these registries aren't specifically for video rights or theatrical distribution rights. LucasFilm holds the copyright to almost anything you'll see on-screen when watching the Star Wars. But 20th Century Fox still controls the film itself.

Look guys. Let's just agree that Lucasfilm is going to release STAR WARS anyway and if Fox does own it, they're gonna get some money. No Big Deal. Either way I got Star Wars on Blu and I'm more than satisfied and just look forward to the new films.

I don't care about film rights. I just like watching the Star Wars films.

This phrase has no place in a Star Wars thread.

All they really need to do is put the unaltered versions on their own discs, and have a second disc with the special editions, letting you choose which one you want with seamless branching.

Not that easy, Audio Cues and Scene Swapping make that impossible.
That's why I posted that list a few pages back.
The "Ultimate Edition" of each film....

Oh for the love of...

Fox is not 'on there alright'.

There is one - and only one - copyright claimant listed on that renewal. And it ain't 20th Century Fox.

Your repeated claims that Fox own Star Wars outright were wrong.

Take your own advice and man up.

The name of the movie is Star Wars by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.

Are you seriously going to point to that as evidence that they own the film itself?

You can't be serious. You simply cant be.

edit: you know what, the copyright notice speaks for itself (thanks for that little hint, btw...I never would have found that without you)...I'm done...if you want to bury your head in coarse, irritating sand (fair warning: it gets everywhere) that's your choice.
