Frankly, I've always only been a moderate fan of Star Wars over the years (I saw them all theatrically), but I have to admit that the trailer leaves me kind of intrigued. I do want to know where they're going to take this story. Now if the film opens and got incredibly bad reviews, I probably wouldn't bother seeing it theatrically, but I have a feeling that this actually might be kind of decent, hopefully a lot better than all the comic book movies.

I'm absolutely not a Star Wars nerd and I'm no expert on all the arcane trivia. I couldn't care less about the different models of fighters, etc. But this preview tells me three things: a) there's still a battle going on, presumably between the former Empire and former Rebels or perhaps among new foes and potentially interesting new characters are fighting it; b) either Luke or Leia had a child who inherits the Force and it's going to be interesting to see who that is, how they use the Force and why it's necessary to use it; and c) Han and Chewie have been a way for a long time and it will be interesting to find out what they were doing and why they've come "home".

In addition, production values look good and different than what we've seen before.

So all that adds up to a potentially interesting movie, although I'm sure the prequel trailers looked interesting as well.
Re Han and Chewie i think that
[Show spoiler]they lose the Millenium Falcon and when hes they are home you can tell they are standing in it. So perhaps it get stolen and then finally recovered sometime during The Force Awakens

[Show spoiler]You're correct. Leaked info indicated that sometime after ROTJ Han and Chewie lost the Falcon somehow, and by the time of TFA they haven't had it for a while. So when they get it back it's a big moment for them.

That's pretty much what I meant. I don't think they will ever "de-canonize" it like Fox did Origins: Wolverine, for example, but I do think they're not going to really indulge in any prequel nostalgia. I don't think we'll see cameos from any prequel characters or direct call-backs. So I think people who hate the prequels can safely pretend they don't exist.

Which is a shame in some sense, because I would like to see the better parts of the prequels maybe handled by new creative teams. An Ewan McGregor Obi-Wan film would be cool as hell in my opinion, for example.

I'm getting the itch to finally pick up the Star Wars box set. Just curious, what is the lowest price that some of you have picked this up for? Looks like it's currently around $89. Assuming there will be deals for this late in the year with The Force Awakens coming out, but not sure if I want to wait that long....

I think part of the success of the original SW trilogy was that we didn't know every-single-detail about the characters.
Now with the prequels and possible spinoffs which show the origins of each charcater, and with the sequels showing what happened to each character, that magic of the first films is going away..
That's why I am against any Star Wars film, series etc., apart from the original trilogy!

Thank heavens there is no prequel or sequel of E.T. (my favourite film)! (yet )
I don't want to know how is E.T.'s life on his planet, and what became of him afterwards, if he revisited Elliot etc. etc.

Oh, I wouldn't do that if I were you.

There are rumblings of new 4k restorations that were performed recently on the original trilogy. Some are speculating that they could be the much anticipated original, uncut, un-monkeyed with theatrical versions to coincide with the new films.

I would LOVE for that to be true and that's the version I'd purchase in a heartbeat.

Certain films lend themselves to long franchises and I think Star Wars is one of those. Generally I am not big on sequels at all, but with stuff like Star Wars, Star Trek, James Bond, Indiana Jones, etc. the stories themselves are set up for serialized storytelling.

I'm feelin' it too... but I'm gonna wait just a bit longer...there will no doubt be a re-release as the release date of the new film approaches. It will no doubt be a major part of the marketing. They've already released the digital versions is there any doubt a new Blu-ray set or the individual titles (I hope) are on the way as well?

I think there is no doubt we will see again Blurays of Star Wars this year.
The thing is:
Will they be the UOT or just a repackage?

If they release the UOT, I may as well go to see the 7th film at the cinema as a "thank you" (although I'm not interested in the least)!

What do you mean "on line"?
Online in the internet, or it's an expression?
