How about the fact that nobody knew how to pronounce Jorus C'baoth's name?

[Show spoiler](It's "SAH-bay-oth.")

Zahn later said if he knew everyone would have such a problem with it, he would have spelled it differently.

Kah Both is how I've always pronounced it.
I didn't know it was supposed to be that way until just now...

In the last few days I've decided to watch the prequels again for the first time in ages and my opinion of them hasn't changed.

The Phantom Menace: Pretty crap for the most part. I still like the podrace and the lightsaber duel though. Plus Darth Maul is awesome.

Attack Of The Clones: Again pretty crap for the most part. The Anakin & Padme scenes are vomit inducing.

Revenge Of The Sith: A pretty solid film that's miles better than the previous two but it's still not quite on par with the OT.

Watching the latter two films again have reminded me of how awful the portrayal of Darth Vader is.

I mean really?!

That whiny, creepy, bordering on psychopathic brat becomes Darth Vader i.e. the ultimate badass?!

If I were Padme I would've gotten myself a restraining order.

Also I'd forgotten how gorgeous the BD transfer for Revenge Of The Sith is.

Absolutely reference quality in the PQ department.

It's a shame about The Phantom Menace.

You've got what could've been a stunning transfer that's been ruined by needless DNR.

The look of Attack Of The Clones has been quite noticeably altered.

The BD is darker than the DVD and has had a strong teal tint applied to it.

Since you didn't list anything positive about Attack of the Clones I feel the need to post that the Obi-Wan and Jango fight is pretty badass.

I've never quite gotten the love for that bit. Then again, I'm one of the weirdos who loves the Geonosis battle scenes as the Clones face off against the droids so what do I know?

C-3PO slapstick and obvious clone CGI uniforms ruin that section for me.

The Threepio slapstick is in the arena sequence, along with the terrible Jedi vs droids stuff (though I love the CG beasties). I'm talking about the big ground battle as it's great seeing the Jedi go to war, it ratchets up the film a notch and deliberately echoes the Hoth battle, with the Empire/Republic attacking from screen right and the Rebels/Separatists on screen left. It's got a dirty, gritty handheld vibe to it with lots of crash zooms and whatnot, I think it's awesome.

Yes...a borderline psychopath becomes Darth Vader, a full-fledged psychopath (or at best, a General in denial and without conscience). That's one of the few things that do make sense. Vader is Himmler (or maybe Göring) to Palpatine's Hitler. Would it make more sense if some centered, loving, nice kid became Darth Vader?

What is different is that Anakin has a lot of anger and paranoia. You don't sense anger or paranoia in Vader, only determination. But except for the climax of episode VI, he's really just Palpatine's b***h. What is never answered in the movies is why he chooses that path after he knows Padme is dead. Because the whole point of following Palpatine was to save his family.

What also doesn't make sense is how Anakin Skywalker developed Darth Vader's diction and accent. Did Palpatine send him to Dark Side University where he got elocution lessons? And how he got larger. And how he turned into Humpty Dumpty before his death.

There are sections of it I love, for the exact reasons you state, but when it cuts to a clone trooper closeup and looks like a cartoon I just feel the rage bubbling up within me.

If you keep having nightmares about your wife dying in childbirth wouldn't you maybe take her to a doctor? Oops, then they would find out they are having twins and create an even bigger continuity error than what we already have.

I don't think even people who like the films defend the writing. It's objectively bad.

Especially the ending. She lost the will to live, THAT is how they decided she'd die? Losing the will to live? What kind of crap is that?

The bad dialogue, bad acting, shoddy CGI I could ignore but the actual scripts is what makes me not be able to enjoy the prequels. You can rationalize away the dialogue and acting as Lucas wanting that feel from the 40's serials that he loved but I expect a story to make sense. If you watch it from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi in order of the episodes the saga does not fit together.

It was stuff like the seeing mobs of Jedi's wielding CG lightsabers, superball Yoda and every clone being Boba Fett's dad that helped me along to a point where I didn't really care about Star Wars movies, which I would never have thought possible. There's a raw and simple power to the lightsabers and dogfights in the original movies that is not at all captured when the prequels go all video game with the special effects and action scenes. Almost everything you named sticks out to me as a specific element of where things were very much mishandled.
