So now that Harmy is enjoying his 15 minutes of fame, people have a problem with that? Realise that under George Lucas regime at lucasfilm, this would never have happened, Period!, and it isn't like the public did'nt want it, but Lucas refused! What harmy and others have done is prove to Lucasfilm, fox, and Disney that the GOUT versions are not only viable, but there is sufficient public demand to make them alot of money. Now whether of not the Studios will play ball is another question.
I am glad he has a job and is doing well, but loose lips sink ships

I watched the Phantom Menace yesterday and have mixed feelings on it.
While the sound was absolutely killer, the cgi was not. It was cartoonish at times and doesn't seem very worthy of a Star Wars title.
I'll continue with the series and hope things get much better.
Yes, I'm aware I am very late to this party. I'll read more of the thread when I finish the movies.
I can't say enough good about the sound. It really tests my system!

the CGI in Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones don't hold up very well. things get a little better in Revenge of the Sith which is easily the best out of the prequel trilogy.

the jedi are the only redeeming factor in the prequels.

Wait till you watch Episode 3. Audio is pretty lackluster and toned down if you compare it to Episode 1. That's been my only complaint since the BD release.

Phantom Menace sounds AMAZING especially during the race!

You are a brave, brave soul for watching those ghastly prequels. Once you hit Episodes 4-6 you should do yourself a favor and download Harmy's Despecialized Original Trilogy (the Mkv versions with lossless audio). The Special Edition changes distort the classic films, especially A New Hope.

Watched as part of the "Saga" the Special Editions hold up pretty well.

Watched as individual films, the theatrical is the way to go.

He's really not. Phantom Menace was my first and I love Star Wars all the same. People need to get over the prequels.

I feel the same. The prequels were the Star Wars films of my childhood, and I love them all the same. I have a very special place for TPM.

I saw the original trilogy in 1997 when they were re-released with the Lucas' added CGI effects. Even after seeing The Phantom Menace in 1999 three times theatrically I still enjoyed the original trilogy more. It didn't matter to me whether it was the original or special edition cuts. I still feel the same way today. Is The Phantom Menace bad? No, but it doesn't hold a candle to IV-VII. IMHO Episodes I and II are easily the weakest of the original six films.

Count me in as one of the people who grew up on the prequels. I still love them to this day equally to the original trilogy.

Speaking of late to the party, I *finally* got to see The Force Awakens yesterday. Actually in a proper cinema, with proper sound'n'all.

In fact, it was the PT that killed my enthusiasm for Star Wars-ish things. But for any faults people might want to level at this new installment (I get the impression there are lots, and I'm also sure I'm going to ignore them all), I totally, totally loved it. The first time X-Wing fighters appeared on the screen, I actually cheered. I didn't expect that.

So. My point (and I do have one!) is that I can now in fact understand why some people are calling for Abrams to remake the PT. I'm not quite ready to side with the idea, but I can easily understand it.

^ Awesome posts!

I'm going to watch the second one a lil bit later. Then hopefully The Revenge of the Sith right after!

Just don't let anyone else's opinion taint how you feel about the prequels when you watch them. If you enjoy them, then enjoy them and be proud of it. If you hate them, then great. Just decide for yourself and don't let the internet tell you how you should feel about them.

From a film quality standpoint the prequels are pretty bad and as someone who grew up with the original, more classically designed trilogy I feel kind of sorry for folks whose first taste of Star Wars was the first installment and the Special Editions.

Yes, Jedi was an early indicator of George's slide to the Dark Side, but IMHO it equates itself pretty well in the last third.

I beseech you to watch the Harmy versions without all the alterations. And yes, Virginia, Han was the only one who got a shot off in the Mos Eisley Cantina.

While I admit the prequels dont hold as big a candle to the original trilogy, I was never part of the crowd to despise them. Id rather know for better or worse what the story was that preceded the other films. Thats my biggest reason for supporting the Prequels. And frankly Revenge of the Sith is just awesome!!

If anything redeeming is to be gained from Sith (though I'm having a hard time coming up with something), it came from Spielberg's input... he directed part of the film just as Lucas directed part of Jurassic Park, so his buddy could start filming Schindler's List in Europe.

I don't think anyone is telling anyone how he should feel.

Sith and certain scenes from the other two make me glad they all exist, even if they don't measure up overall.

Perhaps not, but Panama Jack is implying it's that mean ol' internet's fault that the PT is so widely reviled, instead of the insipid characters, sub-par plotting, and cringe-worthy writing that led to its rightfully deserved reputation. It's a common excuse made by the PT/SE crowd, but it's still just as ridiculous each and every time it's trotted out as a self-justification for their poor taste in films.
