While actors are smeared, the effects are awesome. The color is a mess on the DVD. I prefer the wax if I can get the better effects look. The DVD is unwatchable in most respects being early in the format. The movie looks fine to me, just wish the 3D version would come out. |

Machete order is ass to me. Episode I is essential in my view. It isn't elevating, it is part of the story as the creator intended. @hardbac247 in total agreement on that part. |

Hell no! It came out in 2001, just before Episode 2 came to theaters in 2002. DVD was around for about 4 or 5 years at that point! |

With smart pre-writing, plotting out each trilogy, "the creator" could have blown people's doors off. As things now stand, you don't really need Episode 1 OR Episode 2, because Lucas dropped the dangling story threads from both. You really can just go from Empire to Sith and then back to the OT to wrap it up with Jedi. Both Episode 1 and 2 become filler because, in "the creator's" words, he wanted to play in his universe with the first two films and then "ran out of time" to tie things together in Sith. I'm somewhat in agreement with ElvisForever. If we are to watch the entire saga, then perhaps some changes to the OT make more sense for an emotional impact, like Hayden in Jedi. I still prefer the original version though. I just think the OT are classic films and the PT are very mediocre compared to them. I also don't like seeing CGI in the OT because it looks so out of place.
What if other directors decided to do this to their old films? Would anyone be okay seeing a bunch of red CGI blood inserted in the shower scene in Psycho if Hitchcock had approved it? How about Coppola re-doing The Godfather so that when Pacino shoots the cop in the restaurant his head explodes? How about replacing the creature in Alien with a CGI version if Ridley Scott claimed he would've dobe that all along if he had the technology? |

There's a lot of poignant and/or chilling stuff in there that's only poignant and/or chilling because you know what happens down the road. Then again, on the plus side, there would be that whole 'eat your vegetables first just to get them out of the way' angle so who knows. |

Luke is our "in" to the story. Lucas doesn't even bother to explain the Force in the Prequels, you have to wait for Obi-Wan and Yoda to educate Luke/the Audience in the OT...Lucas just expects you already know it or infer it. Episode Order doesn't work, from a story structure point-of-view.

The last few years of DVD (i.e. superbit) saw great translations and things like elebaroate remastered sets...set the bar. Look there are no right answers, but the bluray is better and worse for reasons I mentioned. But like Hardback mentioned, no order of film will change how I feel about the main character who is Darth who barged into the space shuttle after instilling fear by seeing the look on the rebel soldiers faces. It was always Darth for me. Haydn puts a human face on the terror that lies beneath. But make no mistake, his evil was clear in Episode III and without the progression of Ep. 1 and 2 it means nothing. People feel how they feel, I can only make my case for what I see because I gave them a chance by watching them at least 10 times each. |

The midis? That was created as a thread leading to Anakin learning the Dark Side can create and sustain life. Only Obi-Wan tells Luke/The Audience what the Force is. The Phantom Menace would receive sooo much more credit today if Lucas had just held to his guns, and had Qui-Gon tell Anakin what the Force was...an energy field created by all living things, surrounding, binding, controls your actions partially, but obeys your commands. You don't get any of that until A New Hope and Empire and Luke's education.

Like Yoda said, you have to unlearn what you learned (are prejudiced). Just like you have to understand the "reveal" is an anticipation for people that are new. Episode I works as a straight forward narrative to me. It doesn't work TO YOU, your opinion. I think Jar Jar and the boy are unfairly criticized. Darth Maul,Quigon, and the Podrace keep me coming back. Luke is more annoying to me. I found the little boy to be quite inventive. Not that I mind Luke's chatacter because he is suppaed to be annoying and a shadow of the strength of his father. |
