Like I would give it a 1 out of 5.

I'll try the theatrical cut someday, since I own the damn thing.

If my weakness is gritty, grungy schlock then yours is big budget spectacle schlock.
To each their own I guess. Personally I like the fact that they tried something different and I thought Riddick's origins were quite well done.

What I liked was the way it expanded the Riddickverse into this gloriously OTT scifi extravaganza.

I wasn't against that idea at all, the execution was just freaking godawful. I don't want to go endlessly off-topic though, so whatevs. Agree to disagree. I'll watch it again someday and who knows. I really couldn't stand it though, started looking at my phone which I never do. I should have just shut it off.

I'm with Stingingvelvet on this one-- I saw Chronicles of Riddick in the theater and thought it was a pretty poor sci-fi movie. I'll throw in that I thought the last Riddick movie had a great opening sequence, and then turned into a lamer rehash of Pitch Black.

Relating it to Star Wars-- uh... Chronicles of Riddick was about as good as Attack of the Clones. There.

I absolutely disagree. I would rate all three Riddick films 7/10 especially if we're talking about Twohy's superior cuts.

Look, I ain't saying Chronicles is a masterpiece but the scale and the ambition of it is what grabs me.

I don't think about the movie at all when watching the original trilogy. Return of the Jedi ends perfectly and The Force Awakens kind of ruins it.

That's kinda me as well, I'm not against seeing more conflict, but IMO the PT/OT tell the story perfectly, and I kinda just wanna leave it off there. That being said, I am more okay with conflict than I am something like the Solo movie, which is wholly unnecessary. Wanna know Han's origin? Watch Episode IV.

I really do hope that we get some kind of in-between movie or series set between the OT and the ST someday. I get that I'm supposed to wait and see how TFA's set-up pays itself off further down the line, that's fine, but I'd still love something that, say, tells the story of how the First Order came to be. We've had Rebels, how about Imperials?

I excited to see new movies too but I can always treat them like official big budget fan fiction if I don't like them. When I watch Return of the Jedi I just think they lived happily ever after.

I hope so too. I asked Mark Hamill on Twitter sometime ago if he would voice Luke in a game set before The Force Awakens if they asked. He liked my tweet.

I was actually thinking it would have been cool if that's what Rogue One was. Fans don't seem to be particularly interested in the story of the Death Star, but seem desperate for info about the 30 years between ROTJ and TFA. They could have told a story of the building of Starkiller and provide a lot of lore about how things were during this era.

Oh well.

Like I've mentioned before, a third animated series set between the OT and ST is rumored to be in the planning. I think it could be great too, and perhaps answer some questions like who "old ally" Lor San Tekka is. Considering he's done a lot of voice acting, Max von Sydow would probably be quite willing to voice the character for such a show, too. I hope they get to it while he's still with us.

It doesn't even have to be MvS voicing the character just as long as we got a bit more meat on his bones, though it would be very cool getting him in to do it.

I'll take a political thriller about the creation of the New Republic. I understand some of it was covered in Bloodline but I'm sure there's plenty more material they could do something with. Somehow doubt that'll happen though lol

Sounds good to me. There's easily material in there for both a series and a film or two. The political turmoil after the fall of the Empire, the rise of the New Republic and the First Order, the return and subsequent second fall of the Jedi Order, Snoke's background, Ben becoming Kylo Ren, what roles the old gang (Leia, Luke, Han) played in all this...

Surely some of this will (hopefully) be covered to some extent in Episodes VIII and IX, but there's still going to be a lot they could do in a Clone Wars/Rebels-style animated show and one or several live action spin-off films.

Hey, I'll be happy with a decent "sound-alike" too. I'm just saying, it's an added bonus when we get actors from the films reprising their roles (like Liam Neeson in Clone Wars), and since von Sydow has already done voice acting in cartoons and video games I think he'd be very willing to do it if they asked him.

What kind of weirds me out a bit is to think if recreating actors with CGI becomes perfected. Imagine new Star Wars films with the original cast, or a new western with a young Clint Eastwood. It would be amazing and troubling at the same time, I would think. (IMO Rogue One did not pull it off, I was surprised some people thought it worked well).

I too am surprised why some people thought it worked well. I'm even more surprised that some people think they pulled it off better with Leia than Tarkin. I think the CGI Tarkin looked a lot like the original actor but he didn't look real, and the CGI Leia didn't even look like Carrie Fisher. I can't believe how some people thought her face was flawlessly recreated.
