The OT bonus features on discs 8 & 9 in themselves are worth $41.50 in my opinion.

SP:FX (ESB documentary) and especially Classic Creatures (ROTJ documentary) were quite difficult to find a legitimate copy of Stateside, with the former getting VHS/Beta/LD releases in 1981-83 and VHS again in 1987, and the latter getting only one VHS release in 1985. Before 2011 the easiest method to get those documentaries was to buy the Japanese LDs, but they sold for about $TEXAS on the secondary market.

Not to throw fuel on the fire but, considering the rumor about July 28th being a theatrical re-release of the original....

This magazine is coming out July 25. Now, it could totally be coincidence but isn't it a bit strange that a 40th Anniversary book is coming out 3 days before this supposed theatrical re-release? Instead of in May?

Bought a used copy of the Complete saga set for 38 dollars on amazon. It shows the vader cover, but a part of me hopes its a lie and it's the old one with the luke/anakin art instead.

Can you believe? It took me 5-10 minutes to figure out wtf ESB and ROTJ meant. Still chuckling over your Yoda imitation, Arawn.

Ultimate guide to the 1977 classic?! How can you release a guide to a movie that isn't available?

That sounds, at the very least, indicative of something.

Wasn't there an untitled Disney fairy tale coming out around then? If you want to talk semantics, 1977 Star Wars is untitled...

It has a princess who gets rescued by a "charming" prince of sorts, a wizard, a funny guy, and an animal sidekick. Sounds like a Disney fairy tale to me.

If Disney releases another set with the same versions as the existing Blu-ray set, it shouldn't be marketed as the 40th anniversary, but the 6th anniversary.

An argument could be made for calling it the 20th Anniversary, if one is feeling generous.

I'm not suggesting they do this, but think how many DMC memberships they'd get if they released a UOT set but made them club exclusive like they've been doing with the DTV sequels...

But imagine how many "circle is now complete" puns will be thrown around if we were given the special editions on the 20th anniversary and then the originals again on the 40th.

Sure...but you're not intended to see every scrap of information that was shot, not even on 4-perf anamorphic.

I received the set a few years ago for Christmas and the two bonus discs are literally the only thing I've watched from the set. Still worth it as they are some great extras.

Ain't that the truth! Everyone thinks the "whole negative" is sacred and "as the artist intended"... but as you stated, even anamorphic has extra space that was not part of the composition during capture. I had this reinforced recently when an anamorphic movie I shot back in '04 was screened at Tarantino's New Beverly Cinema in Hollywood. They failed to use the correct gate on the projector, so I was suddenly seeing small boom-mic intrusions that I never even knew existed. The mic certainly wasn't in the original theatrical run (when gated properly), and I never saw a single boom intrusion in the post suite when I did the home video transfer.

So yeah, there's almost always extra room for a little zoom-in that'll allow the software to smooth things out nicely.
