yeah right, I'm sorry but there are still a lot of fans out there for the Prequels as well. Just because us Internet geeks get up in arms of about the new ones don't mean crap for the rest of the world

Heres how Id rate the saga by the way

The Phantom Menace - C+
Attack of the Clones - B
Revenge of the Sith - A
A New Hope - A
The Empire Strikes Back - A+
Return of the Jedi - B-

Oh and in case your wondering

Holiday Special - Z
Pretty close to my ratings and I have lived and breathed Star Wars for my entire life.

The Phantom Menace - C
Attack of the Clones - C-
Revenge of the Sith - B+
A New Hope - A
The Empire Strikes Back - A+
Return of the Jedi - A+
Holiday Special - Z-

Wonder which two films Lucas didn't direct?

How many DVD releases did SW have?

In order of release date:

2001: TPM

2002: AOTC

2004: OT SE

2005: ROTS

2006: OT SE + OT unaltered as Bonus material

2008: PT box set, OT SE box set

, so please tell me where the ripping-off part is!?

Did anyone know that George Lucas does loads of charity and gives millions and millions of $ away?? Nobody ever mentions that!
Not that it makes a big difference, but there was one other release. In 2005 (if I recall the year correctly), they put out a new OT SE box set that did not include the 4th disc (the bonus disc) from the 2004 release. It was just the 3 movies in their 3 cases, and it had a new box-set box to house them all.

Having said that, I agree that there hasn't been too much of a rip off. I do admit I was a little miffed on having to rebuy all of the SE versions again in 2006 to get the original version bonus discs, but that's about as far as the "ripping off" went.

In reality, most of the releases have been more or less the same thing in different packaging. The 2005 box set was just the 2004 box set minus the bonus disc, so it did not include anything that wasn't included in the previous set (people would have more room to complain if it had been the other way around where the bonus disc was added in later, but that is not what happened).

The 2008 OT Box set is just the 2006 releases (including the original version bonus discs) now in a digi-pack packaging. And the PT set was just the same thing in terms of disc-content as the individual releases, just also in digi-pack packaging.

So really, unless someone is such an anal completist that they feel the need to buy each and every version to simply have the different packaging, the worst case scenario really would have been buying the OT twice for most people.

While I am very critical of the prequels, I don't think they would have a problem selling on their own if all the movies were released individually or if the two separate box sets for each Trilogy was released. They sold just fine on DVD and to date have never been in any box set with the original trilogy.

It may have been mentioned in this thread (I didn't go back to read every post), but I read that if Lucas releases the original trilogy he has to give big royalties to his ex-wife. But if it's altered then he does not (or pays alot less). So this may have been a factor in his releases, and one reason for altering the original. Regardless, I'd prefer the original SW, but will take the SE.

I had the prequels on DVD and gave them away. I think Hayden Christensen was a terrible choice. It may be the worst acting and most amateurish acting I have ever seen in a main character. It ruined the movies for me. The first of the prequels had some interesting new characters (Qui Gon, Darth Maul) but they were killed off mid-way. The main character, Anakin lacks interest (and takes the movie to the level of a silly kid movie for pre-teens), and Jar Jar is just irritating. The story had potential but fell far short. I will not spend my money on a set that has the prequels. but it may be a long time before he releases episodes IV, V, VI without the prequels.

I can do the same with my BD player and TV with the discs.
Upconverting should help a bit. Even so, the results wouldn't be any worse than making the customers zoom their tv screens. And why make the customer zoom the image instead of just making an anamorphic disc?

Like I explained earlier, you need a new transfer. You can't take an existing 4x3 transfer and make it anamorphic. Not without mucking up the image.

ROTJ an A+ ?
You're kidding right?

The Ewok battle was a joke. It was unconvincing and hilarious.
It ruined what should have been an epic battle between the rebels and the empire.
Ewoks... pffft.

I always saw them as a blunt attempt at merchandising but it was a bit silly to see them take on speeders and AT AT walkers with sticks, stones and spears.

It's a shame Chewy is a Wookie, otherwise the final battle might have seen an army of Wookie's and not Ewoks.

I remember reading that It was originally going to be wookies instead of ewoks but they couldn't pull it off at the time or something like that.

By the way when I was growing up I loved the ewoks. I can still tolerate them now too. Could it have been better, sure but it still works.

I still think it's funny the whole reason that whole raid even happens is because Vader allowed it to, he could've put an end to all of it before it started.

TPM and AOTC just a C and C-, while ROTJ gets an A+???

ROTJ isn't half as good as either of those, and I don't dislike the Ewoks at all.

Wow! The poll has a higher rating for TPM than AOTC!?!?

Am I the one of the very few who loves AOTC?????

And I didn't even vote it here!

Would you give your millions away? It's not something he has to do. I just think a little fairness wouldn't do any harm.

Yep! Even if in some people's eyes the PT pales in comparison to the OT (not in my opinion), they are still a gazillion times better than movies such as Transformers, WOTW, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and a billion other recent blockbusters which I see in many people's collections here.

Default Sith beats Jedi in the poll????

wow...that's pretty sad. who's voting here? ADD 14 year olds? a soulless eye candy video game mess of a film beats out a fun film with great memorable characters and some real heart.

thank god IMDB's top 250 seems to show a better view of humanity (at least regard these 2 films)...jedi #103...prequels..not even on the list.

in any case...the holy trilogy on blu-ray...can't wait. oh please have them include the original theatrical versions..you know, the ones that changed the lives of kids all over the world.

as terry gilliam said "those new star wars films, i cant watch them, they are like dead things" sadly so so true.

lucas said oh whats the difference between a puppet and a cg character? they're both equally fake!

but no, theyre not, one is a real, physical thing...it is capable of a tangible emotional connection that CG can rarely produce (gollum did work...I cant think of any others.) you felt like you could touch the xwings and falcon in SW...they felt real...so did jabba and the ewoks. (yes i like ewoks..so did everyone until the gen-x 90's backlash) in the prequels you simple looked AT things. eye candy with no real presence. did boss nass feel real? did greivous feel real? not to me.

no idea why i'm ranting here....sorry.

That's pretty much how I'd rate them as well, but I'd probably take TPM over ANH.

However, as I see them as one movie, I can't really place one above another.
Jedi is definitely the weakest though, although it does have some incredibly strong moments too.

Well, guess I count... don't mind being a 14 year old... Sith is my favorite...

But I think it's because I had been waiting a long time to finally see that story... the demise of Anikan and the rise of Vader!!!
