It's just a verbalisation of the resolution of that inner turmoil. If one of my children were being killed before your eyes I would sure as hell say something!
I completely agree with you.

When people watch the entire scene, instead of the minute-long segment of it, they will see that Vader's "No!" fits perfectly fine, and does not change a thing about that awesome scene.

Including the price tag. A title that (at best) is going to sell for $80 is unlikely to outsell a $20 movie.

Look -- this is going to sell well. No doubt. But I wouldn't look for it to break records. (And I'd be saying that even if the unaltered trilogy were included.)

Apples/oranges.

Ever cut off your child's hand? Ever say "He will join us or die" about your child?

This is just more "tell rather than show" from Lucas. Kinda like how he wasn't able to once show the love that Anakin was feeling for Padme, so he had him launch into embarrasing monologues about anguish and scars and sand.

The difference here is that the "show" portion was already there and working PERFECTLY for nearly three decades. The "tell" wasn't needed, and actually ruins the moment entirely. His six-film saga now ends with a groan-inducing moment, followed by a "huh?" moment when Hayden's ghost appears.

It has nothing to do with technology. Lucas simply doesn't want to give his ex-wife any money, so the unaltered OT will not see the light of day again for a very very long time.

I still can't believe we got the non anamorphic versions on DVD a few years back.

Don't buy these Blu-Ray editions:

In all serious though, Vader's two "No!" is actually a surprise because I was totally expecting Lucas to have a montage of scenes from the prequel trilogy edited in to be used as flashbacks (what's going through his mind) before he makes his decision to slay the Emperor.

You know -- in the hopes of raising this thread above the current level -- anyone have any links/proof of this?

I keep hearing people say this, but I don't get it... From my (admitedly limited) understanding of how this sort of stuff works, I don't get how you can add a scene or two and some CGI and then suddenly someone who previously got royalties is no longer getting them.

Ya, supposedly in the divorce papers she would get some money off of sales of the original trilogy so Lucas found a loophole.

Supposedly.

So the noo change is official, I seen it on my yahoo page. Well I definitly won't buy it now. It was going to be hard to watch it after all the changes to the 04 version. I just can't deal with anymore changes like this, that are so poorly done! Now another crappy thing is this will probably be the version they show on tv from now on as well. Ugh, it really is frustrating!

I guess I will just be sticking to my 06 bonus dvd crappy quality and all!

Oh, I did not know that.

With some of the wacky real changes that have been made, it's kind of hard to tell what's real, and what's not.

I have thought really hard about all of this stuff, and I'm still getting the complete saga. I really don't like some of these changes, but it's going to be the best looking picture quality ever for these movies, and the DTS-HD MA 6.1 should sound awesome, especially on the PT, plus I'm really interested in the three bonus discs, even though I normally don't care much for extras on most BDs.

I have just read on a French website that they removed the "Father ... please!" from Luke in that same scene.

Is that true?

the reason why we hate George Lucas is because we are George Lucas: Eternally obsessed with putting a spit-shine on films from long ago, insisting that Star Wars is the modern myth, and so it can never stop evolving.

There will always be generations of children who love Return of the Jedi, but there should also be generations of adults who admit that Return of the Jedi is awful — yes, even without the added “Nooooo!” Star Wars was never perfect, and will never be perfect. That dream is already behind us. We will never be kids again, so maybe it’s time to just grow the hell up.
