This is a forum for discussing the Star Wars blu-rays that will be released in a few days. This is probably the biggest , most active thing ever for this site. Why would they shut it down? This is the main point in having forums on this site. Some people kept saying that in the EE LOTR thread, and I really just don't get it. No one is forcing you to read, or respond to this thread. Why would you want this thread shut down?

I don't care for Twitter or any of the idiotic social networking nonsense, but after someone posted Lucas' daughter's messages yesterday I thought it would be funny to check her updates today. Nothing out of this world, but it's funny to see that she has as many sycophants as her father. haha

Noo....NOOOOOOOOOOO!

Sorry, had to. You're right. I've gotten a little carried away. I guess I wanted to steer us away from the old revision/original debate that has mucked the thread up.

Now that the dust has settled a bit, I think this set could be the best-selling blu-ray set of all time. I'd love to see numbers from amazon regarding order cancellations. Has it made any impact? I doubt it. The set is still #1 hour by hour on amazon.

Avatar sold 2.7 million copies in four days (source) - could this top that?

Saw this on Twitter today.

"If George Lucas continues to change Star Wars at this rate in the year 2028 it will just become Spaceballs."

I'd be surprised if it hasn't topped that in pre-orders already.

I didn't post any, but looking over the last couple of pages, I have to wonder...did you delete them all? I only see two on the last page, and none on this one.

The other SW thread was closed, but not integrated here, due to likely resulting confusion. The time to close THIS thread and start anew is NOW, IMNSHO. With 26k+ posts to sift through, there's no way in hell that it's very useful to anyone....other than trolls.

Avatar was what? Twenty bucks?

This will be a huge seller but it's going to have a hard time (at least initially) topping single-title releases like Avatar and The Dark Knight in terms of copies sold.

Revenue could be another story though. I'm not sure this release will be the 'OMG-blow-the-doors-off-everything-in-sight' record setter a lot of people expect it to be but if it does set records it will likely be on the revenue side.

I'd love it if it failed and sales were terrible but there are too many people out there who can overlook or don't care about the changes.

Yes! It will still sale well but I doubt very much it's going to out sell everything else, too many things going against it for that.

Yea, there's no way I'm buying this garbage. The prequels were pretty bad anyhow and as much as I love the original trilogy, I hate all the changes and am not giving Lucas anymore of my money.

and the reality is millions of people will never notice or, like i said, care about the changes. Some have said didn't Vader always say no?

This just in, Lucas's edits for the 3D edition:

1. Jar Jar Binks is dancing in the Cantina during ANH.
2. Vader yells "Yippie! Now THIS is Pod Racing." during the trench run in ANH.
3. Han Solo never shoots Greedo at all... when Greedo shoots, his laser bounces off the wall and hits himself in the face.
4. Alec Guinness is replaced by Ewan Mcgregor during the ghost scene on Endor, furthemore everyother Jedi shows up as a ghost inlcuding Ahsoka Tano.
5. When Luke removes Vader's mask it will be Hayden Christensen's face digitally replacing Sebastian Shaw's.
6. Han Solo's dialogue is altered in ESB so that when Leia says "I love you." he answers "I deeply love you too."
7. Chewbacca speaks English
8. Grand Moff Tarkin hops into a refrigerator just before the first Death Star blows up and is saved from certain death because of the lead-lined interior of the fridge.
9. An alien toad burps during the Binary Sunset scene.
10. When Luke rejects Vader in ESB and falls Vader shouts "NOOOOOOO!"

Ok here's my opinion...

I just rewatched the whole scene from ROTJ on 2004 DVD for which the amendment has caused such great consternation here.

Form the start of where Luke starts being electrocuted there are five seperate close up's on Vader before lasting 5 seconds each before the first 'no' would come in on the blu ray version.

As a viewer I can still feel myself thinking of the turmoil Vader must be thinking behind the mask for each of those five. When the 'no' comes in first feels less awkward now. It's just a verbalisation of the resolution of that inner turmoil. If one of my children were being killed before your eyes I would sure as hell say something!

I now think that the change is going to work for me and will not ruin the emotion of the moment.

People need to view the entire sequence to see where it fits and not just the youtube 'edit.'

I also finally get the Hayden's ghost inclusion. I felt more relieved about seeing the prequel character that I watched for two films being redeemed and becoming one with the force that someone that I saw for a couple of minutes after unmasking.

Just my opinion but I think it's not as bad as some would believe.

Still feel aggrieved that ILM didn't properly fix the saber colours though...no excuses for that!

There was really no alternative. Adywan is taking for ****ing ever to come out with his edit of ESB.
Adywan has good reason for taking a long time on ESB and Jedi.

The Obi-wan screech never made sense without ever seeing a Krayt Dragon. Without knowing about the books, etc that identify it, it could just as easily be any strange screech could scare them off for whatever reason.

Exactly. That`s why I haven`t been worried about it. And take on account that its not just the complete scene we will be watching before that moment, but at least many of us, the complete saga. Im confident that the impact of that moment will be great anyway.
