half-way through our marathon.

Jar-Jar has not gotten easier on the senses with age.

But he does distract me from Jake Lloyd.

I'm standing by my previous stance that what the prequels lack most is a Harrison Ford.

Everything looks and sounds amazing. The blasts from Jangos ship in episode II are my personal highlight for sound.

Yeah, I don't even think they even got around to making the stop motion model. The scene was dropped early on, and some lines of dialogue were added to the Greedo scene, when they reshot it because the original Greedo footage wasn't satisfying, especially on the close ups.

Taking a break as ROTJ has frozen for the third time and I'm still less than an hour into it. At one point it froze during the Sarlacc pit scene and then resumed in the middle of the speeder bike chase.

Watching three films in a day isn't anything new for my player, so I'm assuming these are firmware issues, and the next firmware update (whenever that is) will resolve them.

So far ROTJ is the gem of the set. It looks like it could have been filmed yesterday. (not up to the Endor scenes yet.) ESB isn't too shabby, either. It's really impressive when you can notice things you've never seen before after having watched a film dozens and dozens of times (and I'm not talking about the Dug in Jabba's court, either).
I had a weird issue today with my Sony BDP-S470 player when watching Episode 1, but it seems like a firmware update has fixed it (I got the player last year through that Disney movie rewards promotion, and did an update shortly after receiving it, but don't think I had done one since up until today)...

Last night I popped in Episode 1 (amongst a few other discs) and just skipped around to select scenes to check them out in HD and see some of the changes (i.e. digital Yoda). Then tonight I sat down and actually watched Episode 1.

I don't know if this had anything to do with the problem, but when I put in the disc it asked if I wanted to resume from where I left off, and I selected no. The disc reset, and I started the movie.

During the opening crawl, maybe just shy of half way through it, there was a brief "pop" sound and the video and audio sped up briefly, almost as if I was fast forwarding, though I wasn't. It was brief and then the speed leveled out. Finding this odd, I pressed back to restart that "chapter", and this time the crawl played all of the way through without a problem. I kept watching the movie, and for a while it was fine, but a similar problem happened at a later scene. I backed up a bit, and it played fine.

I didn't notice too many other problems like this when watching the rest of the movie, though I was kind of dosing off a bit here and there because I was tired from working today (I don't normally work Saturdays). But I saw the bulk of the film, and didn't notice any further issues of this nature.

When the movie ended and the credits started, I pressed stop on the remote. Out of curiosity, I ejected this disc, put it back in, and started it up (mind you the resume feature may not necessarily be a factor here, but I'm just mentioning all of the conditions leading up to the issue). Once again, I got the option to resume and selected no. I then started the movie back up, and at the same point in the opening crawl, that same glitch happened again. But when I backed up and restarted the crawl, it was fine.

So, I went ahead and hooked my player to the internet, and downloaded the latest update. After that was completed, I went ahead and recreated these conditions few more times to see if it would happen again. So far, I have NOT had the glitch occur again. I then went ahead and watched a few of the bonus features from the OT bonus disc, and afterwards put TPM back in just to try it one more time, and it played just fine with no glitch again. So, hopefully this issue is nipped in the bud.

I just think some of the sound effects and music can be too loud in relation to the dialogue.

My wife and I have a surround sound system, but it's an older one and not specifically made for HD. And I'm having to keep turn it up to hear the dialogue, but then turn it down when major action sequences kick in. We live in a condo, so I don't want it to be too loud and cause problems for my neighbors.

cause if my speakers were blown the music and voices wouldn't sound as clear as they do right? plus my speakers are calibrated at 75db each speaker

Well, I'm no expert on this by any means, but I think if your speakers were blown, they just wouldn't work at all. I've never blown out speakers myself, but I did see someone accidentally do so back when I was in college and afterwards they didn't work at all.

If you aren't sure if yours are working right and are concerned, if you have any Blu-Ray movies that you've watched several time and are familiar with how they should sound on your system, maybe just try popping one or two of them in and see if they still sound the same.

On an unrelated, but fun note:

Use the Normalize (sound) function if you have it. I always use it.

I've watched TPM and AOTC without any problems. No skipping or sound drops.

Still have ESB and ROTJ to see . I agree on Jar Jar, he has actually become more annoying as time goes by. ROTS has grown on me, but AOTC still my favorite prequel. Just finished ANH and thought it looked very good and sounded awesome. Other than Liam's waxy face in some of the shots of TPM, I give the PQ very high marks so far...yes ROTS is the best looking of the bunch. However, the sound of TPM is as good as you could find. My wife's latest comment "you are still watching that movie, how long is it?"

You'll know if your speakers are blown

There's no "hmm, my speakers might be blown"

As the poster above stated, either they won't work or the sound will be horribly distorted.

It's pretty cheap to fix a blown speaker anyways, refoam, recone (high quality thrift store speakers)... maybe $10-15

yeah nothing is horribly distorted at all just sounds really harsh and I'm wondering if that's how it sounds. maybe because its in HD, the sound is so much fuller

I started watching TPM on my Sony bdps350 and started getting strange audio problems. Clipping was happening often. I usually turn my display on my Pioneer Elite amp off and it kept flashing back on briefly so I know there was some kind of disruption. I've tried all the other discs in this player and get the same result.

So I changed over to my PS3 40g and the Prequels all seemed to work fine. When I got to ANH, I began to hear frequent distortion. One scene that it is most noticeable in is when they are in the garbage compactor and every time they yell there are distortion noises mixed in with the voices. The distortion would come and go through the remaining 2 films.

Both players have been updated so I don't know what the problem is... I've checked all connections and used different chords and speaker wires just to be safe. I have almost 400 Blu-rays and none of them have had this problem. Maybe I'll have to borrow a friends player and see what happens.

Do a quick level check for all the speakers with an SPL meter. Maybe somethings changed in the room, the wife might move things around affecting the acoustics. Or you could just re-calibrate your system.
