Any thoughts on if Disney will announce any new Star Wars Blu Ray content?
I have still never bough the Blu Ray release of the Original trilogy in hopes of getting a fully restored OT.....come on Disney, you know it makes sense.
If anything happens, I would not expect it until next year.

My cinema was showing the original trilogy seeing as it's May 4th here in Australia. The print was definitely based off the one used in the blu-ray, and it looked absolutely great.

The only deal I saw on the set was for Amazon UK. The total comes to $60.57 US after shipping (since VAT is removed) The only downside for some people would be that it is Region B locked. I'm surprised the US Amazon didn't have anything.

They do. Eps I-III and Eps IV-VI are $31.99 each. It's not the box set but...

Yeah, me to. You just know they are going to make a huge deluxe set when the next three movies are all wrapped up. Imagine it, 9 movies, and up to 100 hours of special features! It will be a huge selling item for Disney, I will buy it no matter what the cost.

It is flattering to know that, indeed, the audience is listening. Consequently, each mix comes out differently and any changes that you hear on the all-new Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX tracks on the Star Wars Trilogy DVD set are deliberate creative decisions."

They say that stuff was "deliberate". I call "bullshit".
I'm not going to claim that no errors were made and the "breathing" sure sounds like one (not that I noticed), but just re-channeling a mix is going to change the level of certain sounds and effects and the more channels you mix to, the more that phase comes into play and can cause phase cancellations, especially if you're playing back on fewer channels than the number of channels in a mix.

Remember, even on the original 70mm 6-channel mag, the surround was mono. Splitting that out into 5.1 and 7.1 is going to change a lot all by itself. These films sounded totally different in 70mm 6-track mag than they did in 35mm Dolby Surround not just because there was no baby boom in the 35mm version, but because of the more limited frequency response and higher distortion in optical analog sound. And the mono optical, which still would have used the Academy Curve, which started rolling off at 2KHz, would have sounded even more different.

When they were still working with film, a lot of material was premixed. Those relative levels shouldn't change if they're still using those premixes. But they may have gone back and taken all (or some of) the original stems and plugged those into ProTools or whatever they were using and once you do that, with hundreds of source tracks, there is no way you're replicating the original exactly, even if you wanted to.

And then along the way, you're remixing and you mix in a way that sounds best to you now or you correct things you know were wrong. You may occasionally reference the original, but you don't obsess over every fraction of as a second.

Listen to Beatles recordings. Audio music recordings, especially back then, were far less sophisticated than film mixes (Sgt. Pepper was accomplished on a 4-tk), but the mono and stereo mixes are remarkably different and there are obvious differences even between the British and U.S. releases.
