Or a decision in editing. Sound mixes for dubs are often handled by other mixers. For SW you have the 70MM mix, the 35MM Dolby Stereo, and the mono mixes all sounding different from each others (remember the "close the blast doors!" line?). Certain SFX get dialed up, others dialed down.

The "pushed" sound you're referring to may be due to either dynamic range compression or treble boosting or both.

The audio in the OT were never that dynamic or well eq'ed.

A New Hope in particular has always been riddled with distortion.

I really wish they would release the films separately. I'd love to just buy the original trilogy and Revenge of the Sith. For now, I'll just stick to my special edition dvds. At least those still have the original versions of the original trilogy.

It's simple. Buy the prequel combo pack, keep Sith, and sell off the dvds and other BDs. You'll actually make money.

I thnk they should do an origin story about Jar Jar Binks. They could show everything that led up to him being banished and meeting Qui-Gon Jinn.

While I do like TPM and, to some extent, AOTC... who would buy just those two?

Yeah, but the picture quality of the originals on DVD is just horrid. I need to check out Harmy's one of these days.

Trust me, as someone who owned the originals on vhs, I know just how bad they can look. For me, holding on to the dvds of the original is more of a matter of taste. I'm part of the legion of fans who weren't to keen on Lucas performing digital witchcraft on the originals the way he did.

My BD player doesn't support BD-R so Harmy doesn't do much good for me.

I really like the Special Editions. Or at least, many aspects of them. But I would also prefer having the ability to watch the originals from time to time if I felt like doing so, perhaps via branching?

How did they scan for the Blu-ray release, anyway? Did they scan only the special editions? Or did they scan the supposedly largely destroyed originals and reapply the changes? I'm guessing the former, but is the latter even possible?

How could you possibly branch films that are more/less entirely 100% different visually?

As kidglov3s implied, it's not really possible, because the theatrical and various special edition versions have significantly different color timings.

They used the same 2k transfers of the special editions (which were further enhanced and color timed) done for the 2004 DVD release.

I've got the complete saga on BD but when it comes to Episodes 4-6, I still go back to the DVDs. I find the poor picture quality far less distracting than the jarring changes imposed by George Lucas. For me it's easily the lesser of two evils.

The breathing in the cockpit has been there on every version I've seen prior to the DVD 5.1EX mix. With talk of "decisions" it sounds just like what LFL said when people pointed out the blatant errors in the audio in 2004: "We are always impressed with how closely fans listen to the many different sound mixes we have made for the Star Wars movies over the years. It is flattering to know that, indeed, the audience is listening. Consequently, each mix comes out differently and any changes that you hear on the all-new Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround EX tracks on the Star Wars Trilogy DVD set are deliberate creative decisions."

They say that stuff was "deliberate". I call "bullshit".

With "Star Wars" Day this Sunday I thought I would share a preview of our covers, thanks to Imrahil for the Trilogy cover and bartlettphoto for the other, although we had to edit it to make it to our new specs.

Those look great!
Will you be doing individual covers for Empire & Jedi?
