Amazing. Just wondering, when you watch the movies, do you analyze every inch in every shot with Photoshop just to see what the actual color is?

We now have professionals like Bill Hunt, giving very positive and encouraging insights of the blu-ray, I thought we'll put this thing about color hue, lightsabers, audio, etc to rest. They spent 3 years on the blu-ray, and we only have 3 more weeks to go.

"We met with Matthew Wood from Skywalker Sound to find out more about the sound mix and what was done to ready it for Blu-ray. He started working on the Blu-ray audio back in 2007. Here are excerpts from that presentation. It was very obvious that he has a lot of passion for these films. Please note that the questions came from multiple participants, including myself..."

That's four years, people. I don't want to hear that they slapped this release together anymore...

After the BD release, I can see this thread going to 2,000 pages, easy...

As far as the set goes, I think I'll get the complete set, then ditch the prequel trilogy for maybe $20

"George has apparently added a few new "surprises" into these films. I don't know what they are and didn't get to see any of them on Friday, but I was assured that there will be "new things to notice"

so does anyone have any idea whats he has added? apart fron the CGI Yoda in TPM what else has he done?

Also has the mono, tinny sound gone from ANH, it was ok but if what i read and interperit is true they have totaly rehauled the soundtrack to ANH!

I carnt ****ing wait!!!!!

It would depends on rights issue and what Lucasfilm were able to get, I think it should. I would not mind Thumb Wars either if they could manage it.

Thanks for the heads up! Adam has pretty much confirmed that we'll see digital Yoda replacing the puppet in Episode I.

Adam's part II report is very, very detailed. I'm not ashamed to admit that I didn't understand half of it.

What I did understand is that Matthew Wood did A LOT of work on the sound for all the films, especially Episode IV. This project sounded personal, just based on this report....

Plus rescanning the elements would mean scrapping any of the changes that were done to the film after the fact and having to either create a Frankenstein Cut that included newly scanned elements and the changed footage. Or redoing them from scratch which would be incredibly expensive and likely impossible. It would be a huge headache and a mess for those involved and I can understand why it wasn't done.

Blu-ray.com must do something to get invited to these presentations. I'd love to read reports from this site also.

Actually they are the same transfers. They simply made some minmal tweaks to the existing masters i.e. henceforth creating a newer master with some improvements based on the older ones.

Beast,

Totally agree. And again, I don't think we're getting another disc format higher than 1080p in the future anyway.

I think he meant "master", some people gets "master" and "transfer" mixed up. But we don't know for sure yet how far the tweaks was done, so I wouldn't call it "minimal" for now, especially when the work for the blu-rays started 3-4 years ago.

In reference to some of the stuff that has created about 500 pages of arguments here, specifically the crossed lightsabres from ROTJ that has appeared recently:

[Show spoiler]Noname.jpg

These are images from Lucasfilm illustrating some of the updates and changes made from the digital files used for the DVD release to the Blu-ray release. While I am fairly sure that they originated from the digital files, they should not be used to look for DNR, crushed blacks, resolution levels, or to find Waldo, but they should be used to see that there is no longer a puppet pole showing, that light sabers have changed, that there is more picture information on Episode I, and to represent the concept that a lot of work has gone into this release to fix issues from the previous DVD release.

Could this release spell the end of fan films and edits? No slug at all present in the picture, white hot cores and red sabres. I've said it once, I'll say it again, we HAVE NOT SEEN ANY FOOTAGE FROM THE BLU RAYS YET.

Nah. Because no matter how great it is, there will still be unhappy fans. Like those who want the Unaltered Originals.

But hopefully it will spell the end of a lot of complaining in general, other than that vocal minority of the fanbase.

Beast - Well, I think you are unfair when it comes to fan edits and unhappy people.

People were right be unhappy.

Question to all of you: Do you really think Lucasfilm would care, if people were happy with horrible 2004 DVD release? I don't think so.

Fan edits and people complaying actually forced them to fix it.
How I do know that? Well, read the home theater forum report.

Quote:
Some of you may recall that on the 2004 DVD, when the X-Wings begin their dive down to the Death Star, the familiar John Williams trumpet fanfare was buried in the mix so you could barely hear it. No longer! The trumpets ring true in the Blu-ray mix loud and clear. When I heard this, I couldn't help thrusting my arms up in the air in a bit of happy relief. I then turned to Matt (Wood), who as it happens was standing right next to me, and saw him give a little smile and nod - he knew exactly what I was reacting to. When I leaned over to thank him for fixing it, his simple reply made me smile as well: "Trust me, I read the blogs too..
."

Quote:
Tidbits and “But I saw it at Comic-Con…”

I reported earlier that the “Humdinger Glitch” has been fixed. There have been a lot of people inquiring as it was in the footage that was seen at Comic-Con. I was told that someone from Lucasfilm overheard an attendee at Comic-Con comment after seeing the footage that “the glitch is still there”. They tracked it down and had it fixed. It was one of the last if not THE last change made prior to the discs being locked down for final release.
If all fans were like you Beast, we would be stuck with horrible messed up DVDs. You were happy with everything the whole time. I never saw that you were negative about anything. Even Lucasfilm admitted now that they made mistakes. Thankfully to fans like Adywan (his revisted series inspired LFL) and other people, we will get a good release on BD. Looking forward to 16th sep .

So 6.1 was chosen because of the 5.1 EX mixes on the Prequels.

Not to pick on Beast (I like the guy) but you are correct. If people didn't complain like they have about the bad product released back in 04, then we wouldn't have the great set we are getting today. Being silent is never a good thing when you KNOW something to be broken.

The argument of "that is the way he intended it to be" or "it is his film he can do with it as he likes" is a weak one when you are talking about poor quality transfers and sound mixes (but those same two sentences are excellent when talking about actual changes to the film narrative structure).
