A bit of UK news here...

I went to my local HMV (the large one in Liverpool, L1) and all Star Wars gear is out ready. This included the Blu-ray boxes/packaging, the free t-shirt you get when you pre-order with them and a screen showing the first trailer.

To start with, the Complete Saga packaging looks far more beautiful when you see and hold it. The colours are more toned down than the promotional images - my guess is that they are over-saturated, as the 'blue' of the disc holders looked far too intense to be real anyway. The U.S promotional images look more accurate.

The back of the packaging is almost all detail of what the product includes, such as the details of each disc and a little blurb about the saga. Usual Blu-ray info in the bottom corners, all the information about the sound/picture (i.e DTS) is the same as we've heard so far. the box was lovely and chunky - almost 2-inches thick.

Then their were the individual Prequel and Original trilogies which were a bit less exciting. The Slipcover is just a standard glossy type, and underneath it was a normal Blu-ray case with a the same cover wrapped around it. On the back of the packaging, the layout was the same as the Complete Saga except with more pictures of Han and Leia, and the unfortunate 'BONUS MATERIAL' being just the 'Commentaries' and something else. Its also just 3 discs, but I think we've gathered that.

At the back of the store was the original Blu-ray trailer playing a screen that had to be at least 50", I can't be sure though. It was playing in 1080p and I was quite taken back, because although the original trailer features footage from the 2004 transfer of the movies, they looked much better than the DVD's. Even the 'crossed lightsaber' sequence from ROTJ - despite the obvious flaw - looked brighter and glowed far more than the DVD.

To say i'm excited is an understatement! And to top things off, a lady at the till said they're almost positive they will have a Midnight release!

The free t-shirt by the way was all black with a picture of Darth as he is seen on the Original Trilogy artwork.

Yes they do look like models and makes them look more real.
The Clonetroopers do look that bad.
I'm completely happy with the OT Yoda, as well as the CGI Yoda. CGI Yoda is great in the PT (and will be in TPM for this BD release), if of course one is happy with the PT anyway, and no, I don't think the Clone Troopers look bad.

I guess you had a lot going on that year huh?

I was just trying to inject some levity, and prove that you guys will argue about absolutely everything, and nothing at all.

I'm not sure why you guys care whether others agree with you or not..... just buy/rent/watch what you want.... thank goodness for "Choices"

It's the internet. And a website for passionate Film/Blu-Ray enthusiasts. And you're surprised there is passionate debate?

Try using the Force on one of the employees so you can borrow a copy. We need answers. If the Blu-Rays are really in stores then we should start getting actual confirmations very soon....

To pre-order them, you took the case to the till and I was just hoping that the discs would magically sprout inside them!

Don't suppose you noticed the region coding on it, did you?

I wonder how popular this topic would be if it wasn't used almost exclusively for complaining about Lucas ruining everything. That got old twelve years ago, now it's extremely old.

Some call if passion, I call it an unhealthy amount of resentment.

I grew up on Star Wars, and I've gotten over the fact that Lucas isn't going to change. At the end of the day, the OT films at the core are the same movies, which is why I'm happily adding the Blu-ray to my collection.

So has it been confirmed that the packaging is 100% identical to the Alien Anthology set or is there differences between the two.

Well, it's larger due to there being more discs. But yes... it's the same packaging.

That's pretty much it. Only difference would be ratings and language on the packaging. Saw the UK cover in HMV Southampton.

If it's region-free in Germany it should be everywhere. Only difference should be the languages.

Well, that pretty much settles the question of whether the DVD deleted scenes are present. It claims 45, and the "accurate but incomplete" list of special features contains 45 listed scenes. Unless the PT DVD deleted scenes are on the movie discs (and they most certainly aren't), or simply havent been noted on the packaging because they're not "new" archival material (really doubt that), better hold onto the DVDs for those scenes.

I just don't see why all the hate with the spoofs included in the blu-rays...after all, when was the last time Lucas praised the fans?

It just seems like a waste to have this taking up 94 minutes of disc space instead of something like "Empire of Dreams" that is actually about the movies. Same with the 501st documentary which is another long video that really isn't about the movies.

We should have a poll:

Would you prefer that:

a) All previous Star Wars bonus features were included on the blu-ray set, meaning less new bonus features?
b) previous Star Wars bonus features were left off the blu-ray set so that the space could be used for never-before-seen footage and all-new bonus features?

I'm sure most people would vote B! Just hang onto the DVDs.

"Oh... but then I have to swap discs "

So What?! Take 30 seconds to eject one disc, put another in, then enjoy 2 hours of "Empire of Dreams" or whatnot...

Instead we are getting C) Previous features left off so the space could be used for features that have nothing to do with the making of these 6 movies. I'm not personally that upset about it but I certainly understand those who are. The whole thing just seems like a waste.

I hadn't noticed the glove before either. Maybe Obi-Wan wears one beacause Anakin wears one. The Jedi were known for folding over against peer-pressure....

I think it's only that shot as well.
