That is my problem going with Amazon on this one. I know the prices online will be much better...but I really want this baby on Friday morning I took the day off and plan of having a Star Wars Blu weekend

Most of the time I really don't mind having to wait sometime after the releases to receive them and get a better price but I just can't wait for this one.

Three weeks left, still planning to buy them in store on that Friday morning even if I will be paying more for them. For those of you that are pre-ordering, do you expect to have them in by Thursday?
No. Well, wait, which Thursday? I preordered with Barnes and Noble in January so if I'm lucky it will go into the shipping system sometime Friday, pretty much sit all weekend and then get into the actually delivery chain Monday.

But I have had pretty decent experiences with them overall and I did pay for it upfront so who knows...

Well I am in Canada so pre-orders don't have a lot of meaning even with Amazon.ca but I know a lot of you guys a prime members and you seem to get your pre-orders ahead of time (1 or a few days before it would seem). Just wondering if you all expect the same for this release?

Well looking at my order it had my parents address, as I use to ship there when I lived in an apt, changed it to the house i live in now and my shipping delivery changed to sept 22nd, I can live with this as long as there are no huge deals or exclusives that pop up in the next few weeks, films cells don't interest me so i am passing on the best buy exclusive. Not a Prime Member either, don't use amazon enough to make it worth it.

Your vision is better than mine

So what are the running times exactly?

Edit: nevermind, I found them.

He actually addressed it earlier (Thanks ), but evidently it was buried quickly.

It shots TPM = 130 (or is it 138?), AOTC = 136, ROTS = 134, ANH = 119, ESB = 122, ROTJ = 130

That would be a minute of PAL (60 seconds * 25 frames per second = 1500 frames). A minute of 24p NTSC would be 60 * 24000 / 1001 ~= 1439 frames.

1439 frames: played at ~23.976 fps in ~60 seconds, played at 25 fps in 57.56 seconds - the NTSC running time is longer than the PAL running time.

Here are some formulas:

NTSC time * (24000/25025) = PAL time

PAL time * (25025/24000) = NTSC time

It does look like the UK running times match the US running times w/PAL speedup (+/- 1 minute).

Now comes the real question: is this an error on the box or have the UK BDs been sped up to 25 fps and encoded in 1080i (AFAIK, the Blu-ray spec doesn't allow 1080p25)? Sounds like what might have happened to the UK Blu-ray of Super, too…

They were probably just lazy and copy and pasted them from some previous DVD releases. Run times are often listed wrong anyway. Even some of the NTSC DVD's are off by a few minutes. I don't think packaging shots are a good way to determine which movies have added scenes, if any.

The same thing happened to me and I had to reset the delivery speed.

Most of the January pre-orders are from original late September release date and didn't update.

Reselected delivery speed and got the Prime release date delivery.

So go into your open order and and select change shipping speed.
Then select whatever shipping speed you had and it should update to whatever you selected but starting on the 16th. (Free shipping is obviously going to take a week more, etc)

That would make sense if they are trying to keep any changes under wraps, they know there are those out there who will analyze run times looking for proof or disproof of changes so could it be they did that on purpose to throw people off?

I am wondering if one of the surprises could be speeding up the light saber fight in ANH. I seem to recall reading somewhere Lucas was wanting to fix it because he didn't like how slow both Kenobi and Vader were moving in the scene.

Does anyone else remember hearing about this, or am I just going crazy?

It's doubtful that the video portion was even done when they designed these packages. They just used the times they had and didn't think much of it. The guy doing the lay out on the package really couldn't care less if the listed run time is off by a few minutes because some new scenes were added.

Those did not look like blu-ray shots to me either. The top photo looked as if there is less detail than the DVD. Very misleading.

But these new shots of TPM look much better.

Doubt they particularly care about that, can't imagine they'd misinform just in order to avoid people knowing things have changed, I think we can all safely assume some tweaks have been made. It's not like runtime is gonna tell us what's been changed anyway.

Well, I get my copy over a week early here in the states on September 8. If everything hasn't leaked by then, I'll do my best to do so on here.
