I've already pre-ordered the complete saga set and will be picking it up from the store as soon as it opens on the 12th. I'm excited for the Blu-Rays and i don't "hate" the special editions either. They got the colour right while doing the restoration for the 1997 SE's so why can't they do the same thing now as they have had plenty of time to fix the issues of the 2004 versions?

Is that so much to ask that we get a quality product in 2011? If these Blu-Rays look great then i'm not going to be saying they look crap just because people think i have a problem with George & Lucasfilm, because i don't. I'll be one of the first to praise these sets.
Awesome, and no, it's definitely not too much to ask.

To some extent they have done just that with this article:

http://starwars.com/news/saga_bluray...ion/index.html

What more do you need? It also avoided bandwidth issues, download issues, legal issues, getting permission to release issues etc etc etc

Wasn't this simple enough for you

EDIT: One thing I forgot to add was classification issues. If they put out altered video, it would have to be reclassified and goes out into the public domain (unless they hold the embargo like the BBFC are doing). That is why the yoda footage was from the Musical Journey/ROTS DVD footage already approved, and probably why we haven't seen any tweaked footage yet. Seems to have been there at the preview event though.

I just wanted to say thank you to Merlinpants for being the first person to help a luddite like myself understand why the pics we're seeing are not actual product shots. That was driving me nuts!

No, he's just stating that these images 'might' not be representing the blu-rays, because they are exactly the same as the '04 transfer and do not present the fixes they said they were doing to do the transfer, bar one which is the saber cross in ROTJ (which might be a mock-up).

It's not to pick faults, it's just to point out that the fans that claim to be seeing changes like saying the colours are better etc, are in fact seeing no change at all and are mislead - this is the exact same transfer. People are seeing what they want to see (those who have not seen the transfer in a long time) but those who know the transfer like the back of the hand and who have compared it can see it is the exact same one. That is all.

Edit: see ady has addressed your post. Nevermind lol.

So who among you will actually be here in this forum on the 16, 17 and 18 (the first weekend) posting about it or will you be watching the Blu-ray instead?

Once the 16th hits, I'll never have to come back to this thread again. The only reason I come here is for news about the BD release, not peoples opinions about PT vs OT, UOT, etc.

And I like to thank the people in advance that have put forth all of the BD news for us to read.

I haven't been aggressive at all. The post you quoted certainly has no aggressiveness in it at all. And if people are reading aggression into my posts then it is certainly nowhere near as aggressive as some people have been towards me in here.

So what exactly am i up to? Please enlighten me?

My hopes for the Blu-rays to have decent quality versions (not just the added clarity with the resolution) have nothing to do with my fan edits. In fact i try to keep what i do outside of these forums from anything i write in here, but others seem to always want to bring them into the conversation. I have been a Star wars fan since 1977 and i do love Star Wars. I'm not a great lover of the prequels but i can still watch them now and then. My love will always be for the original trilogy. I don't hate the special editions and watch them regularly, i just don't like some of the changes. Is that such a crime?

I always looked up to George when i was growing up. i always wanted to get into the effects industry, but my health problems put paid to me ever being able to do that for a living. What i do outside of these forums with my edits is just for my own fun. It has nothing to do with any bad feelings that people think i have towards George Lucas, because they couldn't be further from the truth. George isn't the same film maker as he was back in the day and that is a shame, but i don't hate him because he has changed direction.

Y'know, there seems to be a very pervasive pattern going on in here, and it goes something like this...

"Whine, complain, insult, demean, semi-valid point, repeat ad infinitum..."

Ady, I don't think the problem is you at all, you have always been a class guy. The problem is you get lumped in with other OT.com folks, some of whom have been less than kind to others on the boards and have at times been pretty snarky.

Speaking of which I apologize if my tone sounded bad in my previous post.

The humdinger glitch was found by someone at OT.com, they have fixed it. Would they have if it wasn't pointed out?

Hoth was blue, vaders sabre was pink, yoda was glow in the dark green because of abysmal colour timing errors on the '04 transfer. Thanks to these guys, they have gone in to amend it. Hopefully we will be getting a product much closer to the original product with all of the, in some cases, unwanted amendments.

This thread was useful for news when I first visited and thats why I came here. It has now become a haven for endless debates about low quality images and videos that no-one knows if they even represent the finished product. PT vs OT, who cares, its Star Wars. All the moaning in the world is not going to change things, the discs are printed and probably about to be sent to retailers. At this point all we can do is hope. I for one am optimistic, only because this will be my last Star wars movie purchase.
I agree with you. This thread is going to get a bit crazier the closer we get to the release of the discs. Every photo will be over analyzed, but honestly, we can't really complain about people doing that. Its the nature of the beast that we call the star wars fan. Look at the LOTR threads, same group of crazy people. I just ignore half the stuff and skim for interesting posts...lol

Same here. The information in this thead has been MOST welcome, but once I get product in hand that won't be necessary any longer. The spectacular shark jumps (I think I've seen some mid air cartwheels and pirouettes) this thread has endured wont be missed.

How soon will DVDworldusa.com release theirs? they reckon upto 3 weeks prior to release, that would put it around the 1st September.

you never know we may get a tweet sometime in the very near future, like within the next week stating it is in stock?

I guess that should go for praising them too...so we might as well just shut the thread down again...eh?

I've got a great idea...why don't we just let people say what they want. We as forum members can then choose to do any of the following:

1. Enjoy the post and move on
2. Dislike the post and move on
3. Reply to the post

This is a great thread with excellent opinions coming from every walk of Star Wars fandom. Why do we have to admonish everything that we don't agree with? This is the problem with society these days...everyone is looking for affirmation instead of information.

I'm buying the whole flippin' saga. For the price I paid...it's a steal. The extras are worth it and I can watch them in the best quality available now. Will I be a little steamed if some of the main issues aren't fixed...you betcha...but I'll just have to live with it. Hopefully the next release will be the holy grail and include the versions that I grew up loving so I don't have to fast forward or roll my eyes at times.
