Darth Vader's 'Nooo!' in Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (Supposed Blu-Ray Clip) - YouTube

The first "No" I don't care for as much. It's still cold and emotionless. But the "Nooooo" seems to kind of work. Like it's Vader's "Humanity" resurfacing.

But the more I watch it, I kind of like that the first "No" is so cold and emotionless. Like someone groggily coming to their senses.

Ha ha ha if you believe that was real you guys are naive!

You know film is a collaborative process, right? All of George's ideas get a yes unlike on most films and studios where people will bounce ideas back and fight against particularly stupid ideas. The art director, cinematographer, gaffer, set designer, and various other departments are suppossed to work together not work like mindless drones saying yes to every idea no matter how dumb it is. Most productions involve arguments and disagreements and very rarely result in termination. Its called brainstorming and is essential in the film process, and it is because of people disagreeing with the director that has resulted in classic lines and some of best moments in film.

Well, after watching a clip of the scene on youtube, I've cancelled my preorder. Call me crazy, childish, whatever, but this is the final straw. I've used the £60 to buy the OOP Limited Editions instead, and I'll watch them zoomed in on my 50 inch and play the 2.0 track through PLII to make it "5.1". I always held off on buying them because as much as I absolutely despise the other changes, I felt I could handle them. Probably because in truth, I grew up with them. I'm 23 and was not old enough to see SW in cinema, and watched them on rented VHS from the age of what was probably 4 to 9. I then saw the special editions in cinema in 97, and bought the gold VHS boxset. And they're all I can remember anyway, so Greedo shooting first, the Jabba scene, Jedi Rocks, whatever, they WERE part of my childhood, so Lucas couldn't ruin it anyway. It was only during adolescence, and through the use of the internet, that I learned how dumb the changes were. But hey, I grew up with them, I can live with them. The DVDs only really had the Hayden ghost, and as insane a change as that was, I felt I could live with it, for whatever reason.

But this. Oh god. This truly trumps them all. Even when watching this scene as a child, it sent shivers down my spine. Even tears down my face when I got older. It is probably my favourite scene in the whole trilogy. And you know what I think? Some of you will just roll your eyes at this, but I truly do honestly believe it with all my heart. Lucas is using this as an opportunity to shit all over the people (i.e. everyone) who laughed at the ROTS "Nooo!". It's one of the most watched clips on youtube, parodied thousands of times. And Lucas sees that and he thinks "Ha, mock my work? Well **** you, have some more of it in Jedi". And most of you are going to lick it up. Well not me. Not ever.

I mean, this can't even be described as Lucas trying to make the film how he originally intended. Something I do respect with the other stuff. But no limitation in special effects or technology in 1983 stopped him from having Vader say anything during that scene. Nor did the tech in 97 or 04. This isn't a change he has been wanting since 83. It's a change he's wanted since 05, when everyone pointed and laughed at what to him is probably the most dramatic scene of the series.

I'm just going to wait until the old hateful bastard snuffs it, and hopefully the original trilogy will be controlled by someone who actually loves them.

That's pretty much how I feel about almost all of the Star Wars "modifications" since 1997. I know where they are. I know they're there. I'll get over it and still enjoy the movies.

This "no" thing is kind of pushing its luck, but once I'm used to it, I'm sure I'll be fine. I'm not really a Lucas apologist, but as a fan of Blu-ray and a Star Wars enjoyer (calling myself a fan is almost embarrassing at this point), I still want the set.

Of course even with all of these changes many people will still buy the product and then complain while having it in their collection. The best thing the customer can do if they are not satisfied with the item is to simply not buy it. People are angry at Lucas but they should not be one bit because they are the ones that continue to put cash in his pocket. The story will turn big and will hit the mainstream and I am pretty sure if these don't fly off the shelves like they are expecting it to then the people at Lucasfilm and Lucas himself will realize then people aren't bending over for his delusional antics.

Don't purchase something if you are sure that you won't get full enjoyment out of it, don't buy the product, make a stand. Maybe one day someone or a group of people will do the series right.

If Vader's "no" in ROTJ is also legit, then Lucas has really lost his sanity, not to mention the laughable new Obi "scream". I really hope that all of this is completely fake and not the real deal. The only glimmer of hope I have is, what was stated by members of Lucasfilm at the press event, and even that is quickly fading.
If those two audio clips are in deed legit, which I'm not sure, then... well this just says it all.... !

I'm ok with adding a "Nooooooooo!" to that scene (or something like "eeeaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwww!"..which is more natural to me), but the placement just sucks.

For it to work, they need to do away with the monotone delivery. James Earl Jones didn't always use a monotone voice for Vader. Remember, he was yelling in ANH. There are many instances where he used his voice to show Vader's emotions. Because, obviously, you can't see his face. One moment coming to mine is his delivery of "You have failed me for the last time." The ROTS "Nooooooo" is a poor, silly example (who does that? really, such a thing became a joke long before ROTS), but he did evoke some emotion there.

Well, within a half hour I'll be able to check the "nooo" scene in Jedi from the rips. There's little reason IMO to think the online rips are fake/tampered with. Certain uploaders simply don't do that sort of thing. Fingers crossed the "no" isn't there.

On the plus side, not taking the tweaks into consideration, the PQ really is fantastic on these from what I've seen so far. The fanedit folks have a great source to work from. The detail and clarity during some scenes are fantastic. I really do look forward to getting the BDs and watching them thru back to back.

People have been discrediting Jedi for Years! And now it's one of the greatest moments in cinematic history? The movie with Ewoks, singing aliens, blue elephant man, and egg-headed Vader. This is ridiculous.
Sure, ROTJ has flaws, but he is correct. I would say, the whole scene from when the emperor is taunting Luke, then through the fighting with dear old dad, then hiding, then dad finding out about SISTER, and so forth. It's all a very powerful ending that leads up to a moment of truth for Vader. I would consider it one of the very best sequences in sci-fi movie history for sure. Right along with sequence in Alien's from when the queen is trying to get the newt under the subfloor and then Ripley coming out in the robotic loader and confronting the queen with "Get away from her you *****." Very powerful sci-fi scenes that when you saw them in the theater, you and the whole crowd cheered! If true about Vader's Nooo!, then now we all get to laugh and immediately cry as the whole lead up in the ending ROTJ sequence is ruined.

You know, like many in the fanbase, I hope Lucas one day restores and releases the UOT. Those are my favorites too. When it comes to his changes, some are good, some are bad, and some I'm ambivalent about. The new Vader audio is terrible and along with things like the Han/Greedo scene and the like, some of the changes really make you wonder about the guy.

On the other hand, talking about or hoping for his death really crosses the line, don't you think? It's one thing as a fan to get upset or annoyed with some of his changes/decisions, but when movies drive you to the point of even mentioning or hoping for the guy's death, don't you think you've crossed the line? Maybe you're a little too invested in these movies when it drives you to that point. Maybe it's time to take a step back and realize that they're just good movies.

Some of us might ***** and moan about some of the changes and debate the films, but in the end, they're just movies and not life and death.

I hope he lives a long and healthy life and sees 100 years old or more. You should too.

Discussion of his death because of some movies?

First they came for the fans of Solo
and I didn't speak out because I didn't care about Greedo

Then they came for the head of Shaw
and I didn't speak out because it was just a few seconds

Then they came for the fans of the Sarlaac
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a pit fan

Then they came for me
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Preorder cancelled. I became a fan at 13 when the Special Editions came out. I've endlessly defended the changes made to them. Even when the addition of HC to RotJ seemed weird to me, I got over it.

But this.

One of my all time favorite scenes in film has been destroyed. Call it hyperbole - I don't care. Even with the changes to the 2004 DVD, it's still a high quality 16x9 enhanced transfer that I can enjoy. Hell, I'd rather go watch the dvd bonus discs with the originals (PQ be damned) than this.

This is a fundamental change to the frakking emotional climax of the original trilogy. I can't believe anybody is okay with this.
