There are some good extras from the days prior to DVD that I was disappointed to see excluded. I still find it odd that they included the three classic docs and left off "From Star Wars to Jedi".

I agree that the PT should look as good as it possibly can. I don't think that fans of the PT have anything to worry about.

Yeah, all 5 of them should be good to go.

As far as the actual PQ goes (not changes or old master mistakes, but the actual video compression), I can't see these 6 being anything less than perfect for their time. Well, I can, but it would make my head hurt given the opportunity that Lucasfilm has to make their product shine.

I'm a simple man. I also like John Williams magnificent score in glorious lossless audio and a galaxy far far away to have fantastic contrast and color and beautiful depth...give me that and I'm satisfied!

Yeah, they've had seven years to get it right. Some are saying the picture is somewhat brighter which would be an improvement as they were too dark in 2004. The color timing looks the same though. I still think the color timing was a mistake and some say it was a deliberate choice. Unfortunately, I remember reading that the color timing was done prior to the films going to Lowry and Lucas isn't willing to start from scratch. It is surprising to see screenshots of the same lightsaber flaws despite Lucasfilm's claims otherwise. It seems they corrected the two famously bad shots and no others.

Something i noticed while watching the1080p Blu-Ray rip ROTJ is that there is a whole section of the movie that looks out of focus or upscaled. There is a severe quality drop in picture quality. It starts at around the scene where they are approaching Endor and finishes during the speederbike chase. You can see comparisons here:

The 1080p HDTV version is the same. Maybe they did need a new transfer after all.

[QUOTE=Breather;5150578]We disagree and I think it hurts the scene but I respect your opinion. The only thing I'll add is that Vader is not natural so I really don't expect him to do things like a normal human being. I think the silence made the scene more powerful.

My interpretation of the scene is that there indeed is a human being still there under that mask, one whose humanity has returned to him after witnessing his son's near death at the hands of Darth Sidious, it is this rush of compassion and feeling that brings back his humanity. At that point, what he does is a very human thing, saving his son from his would be murderer, screaming no or not, both are feasible, but I think screaming NO is a pretty darn normal human thing to do in that situation before grabbing the Emperor and chucking him down the energy shaft. I think this change is being blown way out of proportion, but I too respect your opinion.

LOL @ Kevin Smith weighing in on this (no pun intended).

He is a Star Wars fanboy, in fact he probably posts here under an alias.

Cool that he doesn't care, but speaking out in support of these changes is his idea of a Jedi Mind Trick, and that shizz doesn't work on this guy.

I think that's a problem with the filming not with the actual transfer. Before if it was slightly out of focus we'd never notice but on blu-ray or HD you will. There's not much they can do about that.

That's why so many would love for him to release a restored UOT. Release it then go hog wild on the revised versions. That way, everyone's happy.

Kevin Smith approves? Oh well that changes everything. George Lucas didn't turn one of the most powerful scenes of the Saga into a laughable joke after all. Yes... YEEEEES!

Edit-It's late and I'm tired. Now I get it. That is odd looking. What a shame. It does look out of focus.

If it was a problem with the filming then surely it should happen on select shots and not an entire sequence. It lasts for about 5 minutes and for every shot.

Kevin Smith has always said that he wanted to do something with good old George. I'm ptretty sure I read somewhere along the line that he wanted to direct/write whatever an episode of George's Star wars TV series. Of course he's gonna approve whatever George does just so he can get into LFL's pants er oversized jean shorts.

Luke Skywalker and the heroes of the OT just shoved up in the right corner like an afterthought. Definitely got a head-shaking chuckle out of that one.
Does anybody else think Palpatine looks like he's sneaking a thumbs up into a class photo?

Here's my conundrum...

1) Pick up set in a store 9am on the 12th and get free Vader t-shirt all for £67.49.

2) Order set from Amazon for £57.49 and rely on the crap British postal service which means I will probably get it late afternoon but will have it for £10 less!

Which would you guys choose?

I respect your's too, KS. For me, he's certainly human, but more machine now than man I just feel the silence, the music, his face, the head turns, and the alternating camera shots took care of conveying the return of his humanity beautifully, without the "no" being necessary.
