Exactly, I'll wisper - "No", and then I'll repeat myself, and say "Nooooooo."

And then I'll say "Why?!"

You know what a Dragon sounds like? Sorry, I had to... That being said, I actually don't mind the new sound.

(I'm sure I'm wrong about that, but how hard would it have been to fix?)
I've watched most of A New Hope from the rip, and they definitely fixed most of the brightness issues. That too always bugged me on the DVD. I recently watched them and the trash compactor scene is just too dark. I could barely see anything. I checked the DVD with the laserdisc copies, and I could essentially see everything now.

Because the 97/2004 SE were newly color timed, there's going to be differences compared to the unaltered versions. Just like the color differences in the new Alien BDs or Blade Runner. It just comes with the territory. So expect things like Hoth to still have a blue tint, because that's not a mistake, but a revision. Just be happy it's not teal and orange.

Frankly I prefer having the plain disc art rather than a bunch of random characters represent each movie. It's not important, but the choices are odd.

I don't understand where they went wrong. Vaders lightsaber looks really good in IV but terrible in V and VI.

I'm glad to hear that you see improvements with it.
I don't expect the colours to change; my hopes really weren't that high. As long as the black crush isn't as much of an issue - or hopefully, not an issue at all. I just want superior shadow detail - the stuff I've now become accustomed to with Blu-ray.

These people seem to quote an email KenKraly is supposed to have got from Lucasfilm. During the promotional day at the Ranch here is what was actually said:

Source: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/t/31...t#post_3842951

Not one place was it ever mentioned that they only did this in "select" or "a few" shots. That quote implies that they fixed the problems with the cores, but the Blu-Ray rips prove otherwise. Nowhere in ESB have they done that. The sabres are the same way they were in 2004.

You know what? I think you're right. I've went back and looked through all the reports from the Lucasfilm presentation done by HTF, HDRoom, and others and I can't find that "select" quote anywhere. Even in that write-up on the "restoration" for the Blu-ray on the Star Wars site, it only mentions something about mattes being reviewed on a case-by-case basis. They mention giving back lightsabers the "hot, white core".

It does seem like Ken Kraly's email was the only place Lucasfilm made any mention of "select" shots. I think that's what ingrained it into people's heads, including mine. In the Lucasfilm presentation, they do give the distinct impression that they fixed all of the lightsaber issues from 2004 and do mention putting back the "hot, white" cores. They also make mention of it here:

http://www.starwars.com/news/saga_bl...ion/index.html

So it seems they may have lied to us. I seem to recall their major marketing push in 2004 when they mentioned how great the films were going to look. Then, we got what we got. Fool me once...

One thing I do agree with is that Lucas needs to relase the Original unaltered trilogy. I like the changes being made, I think Vader's "NO" fits and has precedent- i.e. Episode 2 - Qui Gonn Screams "NO" when Anakin s slaughtering the tribe of Sand People. Episode 3- Darth Vader screams "NO" after learning his last link to humanity was dead, and He was the cause of it. Episode V- Luke screams "NO, NO" when he learns the truth that Darth Vader is his father.
Episode VI- Darth Vader screams "NO, NO" as his humanity and compassion returns in time to save Luke from imminent death at the hands of Darth Sidious.
The Complete Saga ties the entire story together beautifully, and the saga is better as a whole for it.
However, the Unaltered Trilogy needs a blu-ray release. I would hope that Lucas would resissue the original trilogy on Blu-Ray, at least as a special feature set with the future Blu-Ray 3D set.
Even though I prefer the updated versions, people who are fans of the OT unaltered should be able to have them as well.

Don't forget the blinking ewoks and an even more animated R2 when he gets hit with blaster fire. You would think that corrected lightsabers / laser bolts, engine glows, garbage mattes, etc, would be the main focus, since Lucas is trying to bring the OT more in line with the PT.

I'm anticipating the 16th even more so, mainly to find out if what we've seen from the rips and heard regarding the sound, is in fact, what we're really getting and to see if everyone who was invited to Lucasfilm a few weeks ago, calls Lucasfilm out on their lies.

The UK set does NOT have slim cases. It is a digistack. The disc art just seems random because there is no significance to it. Yoda is barely even in TPM. It just looks like the manufacture picked random character heads to slap on the isc. It looks like something someone selling pirated movies would put on their discs.

...Obi Wan Yells Nooooooooooo when Quigon dies and Luke yells NOO! when Obi-Wan dies.

This doesn't make it less cheesy. Vaders voice just doesn't lend itself to melodramatic NOOOOOOOOOO's.

I don't like the packaging, cover artwork, or inner artwork for the US set but I'm not one to really care much about that kind of thing. This was a little surprising though:

KKZZW.jpg

Luke Skywalker and the heroes of the OT just shoved up in the right corner like an afterthought. Definitely got a head-shaking chuckle out of that one.

The point being that there is still a human being under that mask and metal machinery, a soul that descended to the darkside and was redeemed is the main point of the saga.
Darth Vader was not supposed to sound like a badass in these instances, the point being that Vader's humanity is what's on display in these scenes, the only time we see him with any emotion other than hate and anger. The official blu-ray clip of Vader's voice in ROTJ sounds much better than the mistimed clip put together by a fan on youtube, and it will sound even better on blu-ray. I think it's more natural to hear him say, "NO, NO" rather than look like the cat got his tongue. The dialogue is more natural than just silence. I think mot peple in that situation would shout out NO you sick F##K let go of my son or something to that effect while throwing his ass down the drain rather than acting like a mute.
Anyway, the change is not that big of a deal, certainly not enough to not get the blu-rays over.

Phew, that took me what, 2 1/2 hrs and I'm still several pages behind real time lol

And just as a point of fact, as much as I abhor the changes (and once BD's have been watched I'll just go back to OT Upscaled DVD whenever I watch them) - for the record I always thought Ben's scream sounded stupid. This is just a different stupid.

Speaking of image quality and what not. I was re watching a webisode on episode II where they say one of the reasons they shot digitally is because it was a "ridiculous process to shoot on film and scan it to digital" They had to wait about a day to get it developed and scanned to digital. Did they really need to be able to have access to the footage literally minutes after it was shot? Overall I just thought Episode's II and III looked too much like a PS3 game. It was too early for digital cameras. If they did those movies in 2011 then I think it would be okay for digital shooting. Again this is just all my opinion.

And the original scene didn't convey that
Less is sometimes more. No dialogue is better than a corny, poorly executed line.

Having footage immediately after it is shot is much easier on the director. I would have liked Episodes 2&3 shot on film, but I can't deny that it is an easier process than film.
