While I don't really think the US packaging is great, I don't know about that UK "digiStack" thing either.

So the TRU ad has leaked and they are gonna have the separate trilogies for $29.99. That's a great price but I don't wanna miss out on all the extras. I hope they or somebody will reduce the price of the box set to $60.

I still have my Star Wars laserdisc box. I may have to dust off my player (fingers crossed it still works) and show my kids the real movies before Sept. 16th.

that's not a bad price at all for the separate trilogies.. I would have grabbed them at that point if I hadn't gotten my copy of the complete set from B and N for $44.79 + tax

Well, I'd wait and see how the Brits handle the packaging once they actually have it in their possession.

No extras (with the exception of a couple of documentaries) that come with the Complete Saga have been released before...

So you don't care about any of the extras?

Whatever floats your boat

I don't think it's that absurd to expect catalog titles to place first. People have waited for these movies in HD for YEARS. And it probably will debut in first. But just to prove that catalogs can outperform, check out LOTR.

LOTR Theatrical had to unseat a film which did $209mm in domestic box office - Sherlock Holmes.

SW Complete Saga must unseat X-Men, which did $146mm in domestic box office.

LOTR Theatrical was priced between $60 and $70 prior to release, so about $20 per movie.

SW Complete Saga has been roughly $90 prior to release, so about $15 per movie. SW OT has been $40, or $13/movie.

LOTR Theatrical managed to debut at number 1, before falling off to 5 the second week, and vanishing thereafter.
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4445
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4486

Let's remember that LOTR Theatrical did this despite a precedent having been set on the DVDs that there would be an extended cut. Despite many people delaying purchase, the LOTR Theatricals did still manage to beat out Sherlock Holmes.

-----

For SW, cumulative demand will put it in first place. It's been in the top 100 for 242 days. If you were to add both the Complete Saga and the OT, they will place first.

But I do think it's telling that a mere ten days before release, it's slipped to second place, just as momentum should be gaining.

Here are the current percentages of people who have decided not to buy.

Blu-ray.com 24%
HDD 29% (will wait for UOT) 8% (won't buy at all)
Theforce.net 37% (I've had enough!)
Sideshowcollectors 37%
USA Today 51% (Not on your life) 23% (Undecided)

So the impact of Lucas's changes is not negligible.

Remember too, that preorders likely helped determine production runs, and this sudden backlash may create excess inventory.

We saw blowouts on LOTR Theatrical; I think we'll see some dumping of the Complete Saga before the year is out.

Speaking of extras - somebody posted a picture of their UK set that had a printout of all the extras a while back. Everything was listed. I can't find it. Can anybody help a fellow forum member out?

Too bad they don't have a price for the complete set. I'm guessing it's gonna be about $70 at most retail stores. Do you have a link t your source STARSCREAM?

I am speaking strictly of the Complete Saga box set. It will not be $60 before the end of the year, keep dreaming. I might believe $70, but not $60.

Here are some present stats:

Amazon - $89.99
DVD Planet - $85.14
DVD Empire - $109.99

OK, it was a niche format but it's still awesome. Best way to see the unaltered OT films (due to the uncompressed Dolby Surround digital track).
. LD was great not trying to crap on it. IT is still a great collectible .

the great thing about LD is that most people still don't recognize it as a collectible format. Unlike vinyl records (you can go to flea markets and see people asking $5 per record for a crate full of junk), most people are still selling Laserdiscs for $3-5 each including Indiana Jones, Ghostbusters, Terminator, etc. Stuff that would have cost $60+ back in the day.

I'm still waiting for the day I'll be able to "relieve" someone of their Star Wars LD set for $30-40

It went for $68 today in Canada at Best Buy ($79.99 + an extra 15% off) so it definitely has a shot. We're not even close to Black Friday or Boxing Day.

EDIT: in fact, it's $68 right now. Put it in your cart (before midnight) and you'll see.

Great story!!

As someone who saw the OT at the flicks when they first came out, I think that's where you have to start watching the thing, regardless of the numbers on the episodes. That's from subjective experience, of course, but it's the way the story was first constructed.

I can't imagine what it would be like to watch the episodes through in numeric order as a first time of seeing the movies. Moments that were such a powerful part of my movie-going childhood would lose all their power, it seems to me, because they'd no longer be the revelations they were for those of us who lived pre-PT.
