Can't disagree there. If I was gonna get the OT, I'd absolutely go all in for the box set. Those extras look great.

I really don't understand people that are buying both trilogies seperately. All your doing is getting a double set of standard blu-ray cases, and giving up three, count 'em, three bonus blu-ray discs.

It's different. But September 16th is also the date when the Sabah state, which the Philippines claimed was theirs, joined Malaysia along with Sarawak and Singapore (at that time) in 1963, hence the national holiday.

Agreed. But you never know how silly people can get, a lot of examples can be found in this thread alone.

While I am getting the Complete Saga, I know one major reason why somebody would get them separately would be because of packaging. If a person doesn't care about the extras, but would rather have the movies in regular packaging, then buying them separately makes sense. The person would get less value, but at least they would be happy with what they have.

Answering for myself: I much prefer the artwork/packaging on the trilogy sets, and I don't see much in the extras lists of the "Complete Saga" set that is either very different from the extras I already have on previous releases or else that I particularly care about.

I imagine LucasFilm's marketing honchos must see sufficient demand for these packages, or they wouldn't be making them available.

It's too bad that the US discs pale in comparison to the UKs in terms of the disc art.

Would love to walk into the store on the 16th and pick up the UK set vs the US.

Default uot

Someone mentioned a bunch of pages back that they watched the UOT 2004 DVD's (re-release bonus discs) on their OPPO set, and said that it looked like total crap and wasn't in the same universe as the SE's of the 04 dvd's...

This is in response to that...

While I agree the 04 UOT are not in the same universe in terms of picture quality... I can hardly say it looks like total crap.

I'm actually impressed at the video quality, considering it's such a poor transfer in 4:3 letterbox - not true widescreen.

I was viewing them on a Dynex 40" 1080p/60hz hdtv, from a Sony BDP-S370 player. I sat about 7-7 1/2 feet away. My feelings is that I'm actually satisfied for a while with having this. If it ever is released and remastered on bluray, i'll buy it. But for now, i'm going to stop complaining about it.

-- On another note, this forum has become dry and INSANE! There is bickering about wether or not screenshots are from the bluray, rips of the bluray, rips from the spike "hd" stream, 2004 dvd's, manipulated 04 rips etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

I vote everybody shuts up about the picture quality of all these "screen caps" and pirated downloads online, until the BLURAY is actually released, and everything will be confirmed/busted?!!?!?!?

My blood pressure is rising and my anxiety is acting up and i'm tired of the bickering about things that can't be proven or confirmed yet.

LOL.. We don't have anything fried on stick since ever! But we do have "sate".

Back to topic, I predict the Complete Saga will cost $150 here, that's why I never buy blu-rays locally and I don't trust local pressings.

Not a niche format at all. A good example of a "niche" format was Laser Disc . Most of the high profile releases for Q4 will sell better in Blu-ray than DVD. In fact, when you look at Amazon sales rankings the Blu-ray format is outselling the DVd version for just about all of the high profile titles. SW has been in the top 100 in Amazon sales rankings for over 200 days and I predict right here that SW's release week will mark the first time that Blu-ray sales for the week will > DVD's.

Exactly. I just finished showing the series to my nine-year-old nephew. I started with the OT first. I still laugh when I think back to looking out of the corner of my eye during that scene and seeing my nephew looking at me with his mouth open. "Darth is his dad"?

Laserdisc wasn't a niche format! It got a market penetration of 10% of Japanese homes, after all...

[looks up definition of niche in dictionary]

OK, it was a niche format but it's still awesome. Best way to see the unaltered OT films (due to the uncompressed Dolby Surround digital track).

For some people it's just easier to get the separate trilogies instead if they don't have a color printer. Like I said, I am getting the Complete Saga, but I'm likely importing it from the UK as I don't like the book packaging much either.
