Star Wars: The Complete Saga (1977-2005)

After having re-watched the PT on DVD lately I came to the conclusion, that ROTS is imo the best prequel. AOTC is a much better movie than I rememberd. And oddyl enough, TPM is my favorite prequel. It was the first SW movie that I saw in the theater, and I remember the HUGE hype for this film. At this time I was already a HUGE fan of the OT. I had like a thousand action figures and I remember being really scared and impressed by Darth Maul when I first saw him on the poster. I went to every store just to buy the action figure of him, but couldn't find it anywhere. I had lost hope but then I found it haha. I bought it and treasured it like no other toy lol. I even had a sticker album of TPM. Then I finally saw the movie in the theater and I was let down. Not because the movie was bad, but because Darth Maul was barely in it. He was in every advertisement and on each poster. His face almost took the entire space of the posters. Now I see it differently. It works pretty well that we barely see him. I also love the cinematography. It still looks like a FILM. And I love Liam Neeson in it and all the Tatooine scenes. The pod-race is sick imo. I remember the day the VHS came out. I begged my mother to buy it for me but she refused. I was so pissed, since it took over 2 years for it to come out on VHS, and I wanted to see it so badly. Then I finally got the VHS and I liked the movie much more. Sadly, it was the crappy fullscreen version. But yeah, I was always a HUGE fan of the OT and TPM is my favorite of the prequels. I have just so many fond memories of it. It'll always hold a special place in my heart, although is has huge flaws. And I don't hate Jar Jar. I don't love him either. He is just there - that's it lol. The final duel between Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi & Darth Maul still gives me goosebumps. Duel of the Fates - do I need to say more? Williams is a master.

Some of the stores that have used the two droids in they're commercials would be better off using Jabba the Hut or Watto.... I didn't know it was other stores apart from the UK ones, I guess they weren't exclusive to a store just to each country?

Duel of the Fates is an amazing track and the fight scene is easily the best moment in the movie.

I just wish TPM didn't feel so... aimless. There doesn't seem to be much direction with the plot and characters and it took me years and repeated viewings to figure out what exactly was happening due to the poor (imo) telling of the story to the viewer. So much potential lost with the PT.

I used to play that track over and over back when the movie was out. I'm certain there was a good long while when I thought that fight scene was pretty much the greatest thing on earth.

I know what you mean. I feel the same way. I always thought this movie was complex and confusing, yet it is very simple. The plot is so simple, so thin, that you actually think there is no plot at all. You try to figure it out desperately and you begin to think too much about it. That's what makes it seem so confusing and complex lol.

Some of your memories of TPM and SW in general are very close to mine...how old are you?

I'm 19 and started my adventure with Star Wars with the THX 1995 OT. I watched those all the time until TPM came out

I'm 21. I started my SW adventure with the 1997 Special Editions. I didnt know back then that these were altered versions. And they will always hold a special place in my heart, since I've seen them countless times, but I prefer the unaltered theatrical versions of the OT.

Interesting, as I never even knew about the Special Editions or the fact that they came out in theatres...or I just don't remember knowing o_o

It's cool to have someone in our generation that actually started with the original 3 then looked forward to the prequels. Most people I know around our age just grew up with the prequels!

Same here the only Dvds I watch anymore are either movies I don't yet have on Blu or tv shows that I doubt they will ever put on Blu or at least not for a few years. I usually give away the Dvd copy that comes with each movie to a friend or relative if they want it and my old Dvd copies of films I sell.

If it wasn't for my cousin I'd probably had started with the prequels, too. I never even heard of SW. But then in 1997 my cousin told me about it and how awesome it is etc. He showed me one scene from TESB. This was already the 1997 SE and it was the entire "No, I am your father."- scene. I was so amazed by it, that I told my mother about it and begged her to buy me the trilogy. A few days later I had my 1997 SEs and watched all 3 films straight in a row. I immediately fell in love with all 3 films and have been a HUGE fan of the OT ever since.

I'm 31 myself, and I first saw the OT when I was about 6 or so. I grew up watching them on VHS and cable, and like many others, was very excited when "Phantom Menace" came out. However, unlike some, I actually loved the film when I first saw it, and I still enjoy it today. The other prequels are great as well; I like all 6 films, some for different reasons than others...but to me, they're all worthy of the name "Star Wars". There's some things I'd have preferred were different, but it doesn't change my overall view of the series.

Damn this is identical to my experience. I'm 21 and was introduced to star wars in 1997 by the special editions. I didn't know they were altered for a while either.

I don't even remember my first viewing of Star Wars. I remember rediscovering them for the Special Edition release (I was 13), but before that - Star Wars was just something I'd always known. I must have watched them when I was really little (I have vague memories of watching "Return of the Jedi" on HBO - complete with the "old school" Feature Presentation intro). I'd love to see the expression on my little face when I first heard the "reveal". Must have been quite a shock.

Can't even remember seeing it for the first time (OT). I loved it. I loved Vader and his music and I wanted to be Luke so bad.

I watched 80's cassette tapes so thankfully I grew up on the originals. I watched the SE in full with a buddy in high school and didn't like how it was changed. Then I bought the DVD's and didn't like the changes even more. I can't make the same mistake again.
