I wouldn't call Episode IV a snoreville, it's a very good movie, just lacking in action and excitement until late in the second act and the third act. It's one of the best movies of all-time because of what it spawned but I will admit it is also quite over-rated.

That argument holds no weight as to the quality of the films. Younger people just don't like to watch older things. I know tons of people even in the 15-22 range that refuse to watch anything in black and white and even quite a few that don't want to watch anything that was made before the late eighties. It's sad and doesn't make any sense, but that's the truth.

The reason kids might prefer the PT is because the OT is "old" looking, and again that speaks nothing to the quality of the films. There's a reason that ANH and ESB frequently show up on critics lists of the top films of all time, yet none of the prequels ever do. Don't even try to say that there aren't up-to-date lists either, because there are.

Keep living in your fantasy world where the prequels are better movies, because the rest of us know that they aren't. You can go ahead and like them, but they aren't better crafted movies.

Star Trek: The Motion picture is on a whole entire seperate level of snoreville.

The money shots of the ships tediously being shown from every angle. The boring costumes.

Thankfully every flaw of The Motion Picture is pretty much jettisoned for Wrath Of Khan

Oh come on..ANH is not that bad lol.

I still enjoy ANH but yeah it drags..different times..films were slower then.
But on the flipside the PT movies have so much going on sometimes that it's mindless noise. But I do like PT movies...well TPM not so much but I'll give it another chance when the blu comes out..

The prequels aren't superbly crafted films, III aside but they are more fun and exciting to watch, almost like they crammed all the action we didn't get in the first 3 movies into those ones.

No, it's nothing to do with it being an older film. It's due to being incredibly slow.
Even I as big a Star Wars fan as I am can accept it's the worst film of the Saga due to that.

Yeah, critics that have placed the Original Trilogy on a Pedestal and ignore the flaws.

It's not a fantasy world. It's just my opinion of the films.
And it's an opinion that is shared by other people, whether you believe it or not.
The Prequels are much more enjoyable to watch as well as being better films on the whole.
And that's coming from a lifelong Star Wars fan who saw the films in their original run.

That's a rather general statement to make about other people's kids without knowing anything about them first. I actually wonder why kids like III so much considering how many kids die in that one.

We didn't see Anakin kill them. We know he did it, but not our kids if we don't tell them.

I read in today's NY Times that Lucas is releasing the 1997 version of the original trilogy. I won't be buying any of it. I don't like directors going back years later and altering films with the exception of Ridley Scott going back and fixing the shattered glass scene in blade runner (Joanna Cassidy's stunt double looked like a linebacker). He says the original is too old to restore. More like he wants the original version to fade from people's memories.

LOL @ A New Hope being "boring" and the worst in the saga (wtf), but TPM is the best and most exciting. The introduction of Vader, the initial Star Destroyer attack, the Cantina brawl, the escape from Mos Eisley, Vader/Obi Wan, Luke and Han's defense of the Falcon after escaping the Death Star, the classic trench run, Han Solo's about-face at the very end...THAT'S boring to you? All that versus...pod racing. And a cool 5 minute sequence in the beginning. And the Theed invasion. YAWWWWWWN. Beast is weird.

But it's a stormtrooper that kills him, not Anakin. And he's not as young as the ones in the jedi temple

I have to say, significance and emotional weight aside, Vader versus Obi-Wan is possibly the worst swordfight I've ever seen. Basically a cripple waving about while an old man pretends to fight him and then gives up when his friends run by. *yawn*

It's honestly because kids these days have the attention span of a nat. this is not rose colored glasses falling back to "the good ole days", I very much remember the activities I did for "fun" back in the day with friends and my brothers. We read books for HOURS, we played outside for HOURS, when we were allowed to watch a movie we did so with very little boredom because it was a treat. Nowadays the tv is the babysitter as a STANDARD (I'm not saying that it wasn't so in some people's houses back in the day but just much much less common than it is today). It's a sad fact but kids these days need flashing colors and never ending change in their films and entertainment that anything with a slower plot is boring, I recognize the change in myself as well in some ways. Being that I've become such a huge movie buff I find that I've slowly shortened my attention span and have a more difficult time reading. I'm having to re-train myself in that aspect.

Never said most exciting. It does have the most sweeping and grand storyline of the entire Saga.
Quote:
The introduction of Vader
Sure, Vader's cool in his first reveal. And then he's Tarkin's lapdog biotch.
And then he and Obi-Wan are in the slowest and dullest swordfight in history.
Quote:
the initial Star Destroyer attack
Except for the scene when the SD passes overhead, the other films had better space battles.
Quote:
the Cantina brawl
Luke getting picked on like he was in High School now counts as a brawl?
Quote:
the escape from Mos Eisley
Yeah, they're almost not nearly stopped at all by a few Stormtroopers. Wow.
Quote:
Vader/Obi Wan
See above. The worst duel of the entire Trilogy. If not for the dialogue, it would total fail.
Quote:
Luke and Han's defense of the Falcon after escaping the Death Star
With special effects supplied by the Atari 2600. It wasn't that big a deal.
Quote:
the classic trench run
The battle inside the DSII in RotJ and the Naboo Starfighters vs. Droid Control Ship were better.
Quote:
Han Solo's about-face at the very end
Eh. Like I said, I felt Harrison Ford's performance in ANH was kinda weak.
And it's not like his about-face was all that shocking. Considering the rest of the film.
Quote:

Compared to the other films in the series, yes. The film is dull and tedious to rewatch.
It's the only one I have to actually struggle to stay awake during. Sadly.
