I don't think that's it, at all. Most of his problems stem from the dispute with the Guilds and essentially being forced to do things he's admitted he'd rather not like write and direct.

"He is asked five hundred questions a day," says Sidney Ganis, vice-president of marketing for Lucasfilm. "'Should we make the bannisters in the ranch house mahogany or green?' 'Should we start this sequence with an over-the-shoulder shot of Harrison Ford getting off the ship?' 'Would it be OK to reveal a certain story point in the Jedi trailer?'

It's worth posting again, but extremely unlikely that he'll ever use anyone associated with the DGA or WGA again, unless they came crawling and begging him:

"The Hollywood unions have been taken over by the same lawyers and accountants who took over the studios," Lucas says angrily. "When the Writers Guild was on strike, I couldn't cross the picket line in my function as a director in order to take care of American Graffiti when the studio was chopping it up. I quit the Director's Guild because the union lawyers were locked in a traditional combat with the studio lawyers. The union doesn't care about it's members. It cares about making fancy rules that sound good on paper and are totaly impractical. They said Lucasfilm was a personal credit, not a corporate credit. My name is not George Lucasfilm any more than William Fox's name was Twentieth Century-Fox. On that technicality, they sued me for $250,000. You can pollute half the Great Lakes and not get fined that much. When the DGA threatened to fine Kershner $25,000, we paid his fine. I consider it extortion. The day after I settled with the Director's Guild, the Writers Guild called up. At least their fine didn't go all into the business agents' pockets. Two-thirds went to writers."

I know I will get a ton of heat for saying this, but Episode I is a great film. Maybe Jar Jar and Jake were annoying, but there are far greater things going on. The final lightsaber battle with Obi, Qui and Maul just might be one of the best in the entire saga. The pod race was great. Mace Windu. Yaddle...okay so her role was only off to the side on the Jedi council, but still cool to see another Yoda species. There are some excellent action scenes in general.

I may be in the minority here, but I will defend Episode I.
I agree. I really like TPM for all the reasons you listed. AOTC is by far the worst in the series.

Default Problems

I'm using a Home Theater PC along with a JVC Receiver RX-9010V 5.1 (6-7 years old; DTS and DD only, still sounds great in DTS-HD MA) a Panasonic 42" Plasma.

Computer Specs:

AMD X2 4200+
ASRock Dual SATA-II
OCZ Platinum 1Gb x 4
NVIDIA 8800 GTS 512mb
Seasonic M12 700W PSU
Audigy2 ZS Platinum Pro
Windows 7 Pro
Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra (newest patch)
ASUS BR-04B2T Blu-Ray Drive

I am trying to play New Hope and the video on screen is going insane, it will basically play perfect for 5-10 minutes and then bam all kinds of video distortions. Is anyone else getting this? Do we have a new Saving Private Ryan on our hands? Or am I just unlucky and bought a set with a bad disc. I have not tried the other discs yet, but I will post back when I do. However if anyone is having trouble and are using a HTPC or a player please respond.

There was nothing even the slightest bit "heated" in my comment.

Have a nice day.

Anyone who says the prequels were no good, are just complete morons. If you like the originals and are a true star wars fan you should like them all.Revenge of the Sith is my favorite of them all and I grew up in the 80's watching the originals.Alot of people that say the prequels are crap never seen them or might have seen Phantom Menace and then didnt like it so they consider all 3 of the prequels garbage.Stop complaining ,but the 3 pack of the OT and let the true star wars fans have the 9 disk set with all the deleted scenes from the OT as well as the PT and be happy, because you got what you wanted. You do not need to buy all of them so your lucky that Lucas did it that way. Some people just want to complain about anything.

I asked the clerk at the Buy More Best Buy when I was there a couple hours after they opened if they had a big swarm this morning, and he said the same - like 5 people total so far. Surprised me.

Nice to see more people showing love for The Phantom Menace. Since it's my favorite film.

Agreed that AotC's is the weakest of the Prequels though. With ANH being the weakest of the Saga.

Add another one missing the book from a set out of the Whitesville (Indy) warehouse. I've have the replacement tomorrow afternoon....hopefully from a different batch. Be aware that Saturday deliveries are always via FEDEX so adjust your expected time accordingly. (Our UPS comes late morning...FEDEX is usually mid-late afternoon.)

Now the kicker...aside from the booklet the set was in mint condition. (Those of you who order from Amazon know how rare this can be.) The only other BR that I've gotten in such good condition over the past 6 months is the Scarface SB. Thank god it's only a missing book and I can just open the new one, get what was missing from the 1st, and send it back as is.

Is there a new update that was released in the past day or two?

My set is sitting on my front porch waiting for me.

Yes.

Especially if you have the room to set it up right (see Dobly Digital website for how to).

But even my room with couch to the wall sounds very nice (noticeably) on a 7.1 movie (and 6.1).

Hmm - I'll give it a try on my HTPC. Wish I still had my 8800GTS 640mb though, it would have been a closer test from a graphics card perspective. But at the very least I'm still sporting an Nvidia card (GeForce 560ti) and Power DVD 10, for what it's worth. I'll post back in a bit.

I have to agree.

While I only have a 46" plasma, I can tell that these transfers were based on the 2K? restoration by Lowry. Because honest to God, although parts of ANH look great, the most important part, the Death Star attack didn't look, much better than the DVD. And what the hell is up with TESB??? I swear it looks like the DVD rip with additional BD grain structure. The Hoth sequence looks horrible and the shots within the Star Destroyers aren't much better. I'm only to the part where Luke crashes into Dagobah, but I'm seriously disappointed in this transfer. Hope these other transfers are better.
