So, I just finished watching the prequel trilogy in its HD debut and I must say it was impressive!
Sure, the movies themselves are a disappointment (3 is far beyond the other two, however I still believe its crippled by the terrible dialogue written for the segments between Anakin & Padme) but I still find myself enjoying them for the pure nostalgia factor. I was a kid when the phantom menace came out, and although I was thrilled at jar jar making a fool of himself then I can say the impact is just as great to me now, only in a more negative aspect. Episode I had its high points and lows when it came to quality. The DNR in some scenes was more apparent than others, however it didn't completely trample over my expectations for the transfer.. it still looked terrific in certain sequences. The audio? incredible, quite the immersive experience! Episode II proved to look better to me and the audio quality was once again a high point of the transfer. My sub was definitely appreciating the work out, not that Episode I was any pushover! Episode III was once again a mixed bag, as the picture quality was fantastic.. everything seemed crisp and clear, just as expected from a film that's only 6 1/2 years old. But then we come to the audio, and as previously mentioned in the countless pages of this thread it just didn't seem as jaw-dropping as the first two films. The bass seemed generally lifeless on a few sequences when I was sure it was going to sucker-punch me in the labia, although the surround track seemed fine. Definitely was expecting a little more kick on the audio front from the newest movie in the franchise and was a tad disappointed my least favorite films of the series received the better audio treatment but otherwise another great viewing! hats off to the prequel trilogy, you didn't fulfill the grand expectations that awaited you but dammit you tried. But enough of this prequel business, check out the top of my movie/star wars memorabilia! ![]() Last edited by UntilTheyFall; 09-22-2011 at 07:20 AM. |

I can't believe that many of you seem to be ok with the transfer of TPM!
![]() I have watched it 2 and a half times already, and I KNOW that there are details the transfer isn't showing me, due to the heavy DNR. Just look at the shots of the Podrace announcers, the shot where the woman in white makeup is overlooking the podrace, and one of the podrace crowd shots towards the end, and you can clearly see what level of clarity and detail we could have been in for!!!!!!!!! I say let's create an online petition to demand a remaster of TPM!!!! I am confident that TPM could look at least as gorgeous as the remastered Gladiator BD. Who is in????? We must do something about this! They could just send us a replacement disc for that particular movie. Sure, TPM has never looked better on home video, but it could look so much better!!!!!! If you are a BD enthusiast, and cannot see the problems with this transfer, may I kindly suggest..... |

I guess I'm the only person who has been here on this forum since day 1 and even having the set, haven't watched it as of yet. I got my set last Monday but unfortunately the soldering of the banana plugs of two of my rear surround speakers went out! I finally got it fixed and I'm finally gonna watch it tonight!!

I said that it looks the best ever on home video, but it could look a lot better without the DNR. You are focusing on all the wrong details. |

Dude, I did read your post. The one above about a petition and all. Seems like overkill to me is all. By all means do as you like, but, TPM from what I've seen has always been problematic. We could already have it at it's best and if not, Lucas can fix it on one of the future releases. I kinda doubt it though.

There's no need for an online petition. No need to argue the quality is better than the DVDs.
The transferts are 1080p scans done in 2004. It's like if Apple was issuing OSX Lion and in the box was actually a relabeled 10.3 Panther disc. Whatever the improvements, it as to be below par any new, modern day transfert (most of which are done at twice the 1080p resolution minimum). |

Other than a few shots, like the infamous Qui-Gon shots.... which looked terrible even before, the DNR isn't really that bad.
The detail is still there. You can still see minor costume details, skin imperfections, and individual hairs on people's eyebrows and head. So I don't feel the need for a petition. I'm pretty happy with the way that it looks. Sorry it doesn't make you happy, Bluyoda. And regardless, a petition is pointless anyway. It's not going to change anything. Online petitions never really do. |

I think a petition is a good idea. If it worked on Gladiator which had the same problems, why wouldnīt it work on Star Wars? |

Just finished ROTJ. After all these years, as jaded as I have become...still love it. I like the Ewoks, I like Han's character progression (the scene on the bridge where he comes back to Leia was a great little character beat, showing what the old Han would do and how he is consciously trying to break old habits in an effort to grow up), Hayden's ghost doesn't bother me one bit (I think Hayden and Sebastian both have their pros and cons in that scene). Yeah, Jedi Rocks is still awful. Had to skip over that. Along with the fireplace scene in AOTC, the only scenes I skip over in the saga. And yeah, Vader's "No" sticks out in the mix. I see what they were going for. It's not as stupid as Greedo shooting first or the awful dragon call (I liked both versions of it. The 1977 one did its job, and the 2004 one was a nice link to the prequels that echoed an old friend of Obi-Wan's); but I would have preferred the scene to stay as is. The movie looks and sounds phenomenal. So rare to find a proper modern surround-sound track for such an old movie. My only complaint is black crush, evident whenever Vader or Palpatine is on screen. I was thinking about how Luke didn't try and kill Palpatine once he had Vader on the ropes. Palpatine was pretty much defenseless to Luke's knowledge. He could have just executed him like Mace Windu had intended to do. I might be reading into things, but I think it's a subtle little indicator of where the New Jedi Order would have been taken. The Jedi were wiped out because they were arrogant and caught up in their own dogma. I think Luke would have brought a new breed of Jedi into the universe. An order that doesn't get caught up in rigidity and short-sightedness. Oh, and the Ewoks. Seems none of the adult Ewoks blink. Wicket does, as do a few of the babies. But I didn't see one adult blink. Curious. Watched SPFX: The Making of ESB. Had never seen it. Spends too much time on tenuously-related stuff, but seeing the short films done by teenagers was pretty cool. I was surprised people could pull that kind of stuff off given the lack of access to technology and whatnot. Also watched A Conversation with the Masters, which shares a lot of interview bits with the archival commentary; but still a nice watch. Last edited by beckmen; 09-22-2011 at 09:09 AM. |

Judging from the plethora of Star Wars releases on DVD over the years its pretty safe to assume that Star Wars will be re-released and re-packaged many times on Blu-ray and will probably, and hopefully, be re-scanned and re-mastered in 4k for some "ultimate Set' within a few years. And then there's the looming 3D versions. My point is, I think we're pretty much guaranteed of seeing TPM re-released and eventually re-mastered. But I don't think they'll do it for free. ![]() |
