I - Young Anakin Skywalker*
II - Jango Fett
III - Darth Sidious
IV - Luke Skywalker
V - Boba Fett
VI - Darth Vader

* As I sat and thought it over, the more sense it made that Anakin was the phantom menace rather than Sidious/Maul. What do you think?

Unfortunately my idea of the characters related to the movie titles keep out Han Solo and a lot of other great characters, so I thought of a different route: having a big character of each movie to represent the cover.

I - Qui-Gon Jin or Obi-Wan Kenobi
II - Obi-Wan Kenobi or Anakin Skywalker
III - Anakin Skywalker or Darth Sidious
IV - Luke Skywalker
V - Yoda or Boba Fett
VI - Darth Vader or Han Solo

Need all the help I can get.. so hit me?
For the sake of Synergy i'd go:

I - Young Anakin
II - Jedi Knight Anakin
III - Darth Vader!Anakin

For the prequels.

^ Not bad. Then Luke's evolution on the originals?

Yep. The way I always viewed them, the prequels were Anakin's fall and the originals are Luke's rise.

I do like your idea of the one character per set though. Maybe to get around people not being feature, you could make interior art as well.

Interesting thought. That never occurred to me, but it does make a little sense. Still, I think it's clear Sidious is the true Phantom Menace. By the end of the first movie, most of the pieces are in place for Anakin's eventual fall, but he's still good at heart. Sidious, on the other hand, is already manipulating things from behind the curtain.

Reminds me of the old argument of whether Anakin brought balance to the Force by destroying Sidious or by eliminating so many closed-minded Jedi.

+1

There are only two ways of watching the Star Wars saga. IV, V, VI, I, II, III or I, II, III, IV, V, VI. Any other way is insane.

Not if you watch them in numerical order and stop Ep III right after
[Show spoiler]Obi puts Ani down
by the lava pit, just before he picks up the saber.

That was where Lucas should have ended it anyway, but he tossed in all that fan-wank crap that really does nothing.

Nope. He's referred to as Darth Vader long before Mustafar. You'd have to cut everything out starting with the Anakin/Palpatine/Windu scene and that's, what, half the movie?

I don't think we need spoilers in the Star Wars thread anymore, unless it's about the new movies. For example it's already been revealed that
[Show spoiler]Han will be killed by a revived Boba Fett
in the first act of VII

CRAP!

It's a shame more thought was not put into the storyline. Could have been great. Really great!

If I'm watching the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy, I'll only watch them and not the prequels as you don't really need to view them for those editions. If I'm watching the special editions of the original trilogy, I'll watch the prequels as well in chronological order from I-VI. That's my preferred way of viewing these films. I still prefer the theatrical cuts though.

I can only hope that one day the theatrical cuts will get high quality HD scans that are remastered from the OCN and restored at 4K resolution. It's a shame that the special editions are limited to 2K. Don't Disney realize that they can sell loads of copies of the theatrical cuts in HD, it would be a goldmine for them.

I can't believe people are still worried about spoiling Star Wars, "I am your Father" is one of the biggest movie quotes in the world. I think most people over the age of maybe 15 will figure out who it refers to even if they just started to watch A New Hope.

Believe it or not, but....there are actually people out there under the age of 15! (GASP!)

To be fair, I had heard that line parodied so much as a kid that by the time I actually saw the scene for the first time it was less "OMG VADER IS LUKE'S FATHER?!?!" and more "Oh, so that's where that line is really from. Huh."

It's both - Anakin brought balance by killing every mother ****er in the room. The slate was wiped clean of the dogmatic Jedi and the power-mad Sith, allowing the Force to start afresh. After struggling to understand what was meant by the "balance" outlined in the Jedi's prophecy, this realisation struck me a couple years ago and it was like a lightbulb went on in my head.

That's why I love Star Wars, you can still be unlocking bits and pieces of the story years later. Then I watch the fireside scene in Clones and feel like hitting my face with a tyre iron.

I'm not sure how the Anakin = Darth Vader can really be considered a spoiler considering just how deeply engrained into pop culture it is. But just in terms of watching the films in an enjoyable order and preserving drama and suspense, my preferred order is 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6.

The prequels are a weak intro considering most of their appeal is solely as prequels to the prior 3 films - so this positions them as more of a flashback, after we're already invested in these characters in 4 and 5. It also preserves the "reveal" in 5, and lengthens the time the unresolved plot threads dangle making it all the more satisfying when you finally get to 6.

Yes regardless of the obvious twist in Empire, I would still recommend any newbies to watch them in theatrical release order. The prequels are not a good introduction to the universe and characters. If you watch them in episode order, Yoda gets a boring first impression. The prequels definitely rely on what you already know from the originals.

A New Hope is a great introduction to the Star Wars universe, and it's fun to discover things along with Luke.
