Agreed, sounds like a great way to watch it. Soon as I can get the whole Saga at a better price, I'm going to give this order a try!

Start with IV, V, & VI. Wait 16 years, then watch I, II & III. Then you can be mad at Lucas in the order in which he always intended.

If they don't know the twist in Empire then OT/PT. If they know then they might as well watch 1-6 in chronological.

Ignore anyone who tries giving you some stupid order that mixes trilogies.

While it's a good point that the Hayden Christensen Force ghost makes more sense using the flashback viewing order, I absolutely hated trying to watch the series in that order. Even as a flashback, the prequels are such different movies from the original trilogy that to insert them into the middle (and take a flashback longer than the combined ANH/TESB episodes that precede it) really messes with the flow of the OT and sort of removes me from that experience, which as I understand it is the opposite intention of the order (to make the OT the focus).

I think the prequels are decent movies in their own right. It's not that they pale in comparison to the original trilogy that makes this flashback order not work for me, it's that the two trilogies are so different thematically and visually (among other reasons) that I prefer to keep them as separate trilogies.

Since I'm familiar with the series by now, I don't mind viewing them 123456 or 456123. When I eventually have kids and introduce them to the movies, I'll do so in the order of 456123789.

How is it a good idea to derail the story of Luke, Leia, Han and Chewie for 7 hours? You also ruin the Luke/Leia twin reveal this way.

I've also heard of doing 4, 5, 2, 3, 6... Leaving out 1 since there is nothing really important revealed in 1 that isn't at least talked about in the other two prequel movies.

Most important order 4,5,6, and pretend the prequels never happened. Although im optimistic for 7,8,9,thats what should have been made back then instead of prequels.

You could argue that Return of the Jedi touches on every major event from the previous 5 episodes too and I don't see anyone seeing to skip the other movies.

You can bash on George Lucas all you want but if you're gonna take the time to watch his saga you might as well watch it it one of the two orders he used. The people who created this nonsense idea to watch the prequel trilogy in between Empire and Jedi are nobodies, and their method of watching is demonstrably flawed for at least two significant reasons as I mentioned above.

I'm familiar with this weird psychological need to undermine what Lucas did is something I see a lot. It's the same thing that has people waiting to proclaim "it's better than the prequels! BLANK knows Star Wars better than Lucas!" every time some new part of the expanded universe was released.

If there are two movies in the Star Wars saga that DEMAND to be watched back-to-back it's Empire and Jedi, and even if you think George Lucas is one of the most inept storytellers that ever lived you have to give him credit for not putting a 7-hour detour of backstory between them.

[Show spoiler]You also ruin the Luke/Leia twin reveal this way.
And if he's reading these post (looking for answers to his question) you could ruin it too w/o spoiler wraps .

I'm watching the theatrical version of Star Wars for the very first time right now....and I can see why people say the Laserdisc is the "definitive" version of it. Watching the DVD on a HD set is brutal.

All I've heard from people who used the detour method with their kids is that their kids were riveted. Preference is one thing, but I'm not quite sure why you think doing it this way destroys the trilogy. If you watch them in numerical order the reveals are destroyed anyway.

Kids will be "riveted" watching these movies in any semi-logical order. Doesn't mean they watched it in an ideal order.

No I'm saying both 456123 and 123456 are valid orders. Anything else is nonsense. Period.

Personally I like watching the original originals, then the prequels, then the SE's. That order keeps the original reveals intact, gives the prequels some context, which then informs the changes made to the SE's.

just wait for Adywan's version of the PT (he wants to cut it down to two movies) in 2035.

That's why I said you should probably do 456123 if you're showing it to someone who has miraculously managed to go through life not knowing the surprises. If people know about the Skywalker family situation there's no point in saving the PT for later.

I'm currently working on a set of custom covers for these movies.

Was thinking of having a character related to the movie titles on the front of the cover, and need your opinions of what characters to go with.

Here's my layout:

I - Young Anakin Skywalker*
II - Jango Fett
III - Darth Sidious
IV - Luke Skywalker
V - Boba Fett
VI - Darth Vader

* As I sat and thought it over, the more sense it made that Anakin was the phantom menace rather than Sidious/Maul. What do you think?

Unfortunately my idea of the characters related to the movie titles keep out Han Solo and a lot of other great characters, so I thought of a different route: having a big character of each movie to represent the cover.

I - Qui-Gon Jin or Obi-Wan Kenobi
II - Obi-Wan Kenobi or Anakin Skywalker
III - Anakin Skywalker or Darth Sidious
IV - Luke Skywalker
V - Yoda or Boba Fett
VI - Darth Vader or Han Solo

Need all the help I can get.. so hit me?
